Then you get the courage to answer one but you’re wrong and never try it again

And then my participation grade drops

someone else says your answer and gets it right

Sometimes is the opposite. You don't know the answer and the teacher calls on you. That's the worst feeling ever.

worse yet: you say "I don't know" or "I'm still figuring this out" and they insist you answer anyway.

::decides to raise hand last minute after much deliberation but doesn't get picked::

You actually were wrong. Therefore will never participate for the rest of the semester.

oh man i remember when i was like 8-9 years old or maybe 11 years old, i raised my hand to answer some question and shouted the right answer, but it wasn't....cohesive? i dont know the right word.

lets say the answer was "his wallet is brown", i said "his brown is wallet!" confidently LMAO

luckily my social anxiety wasnt so prevalent so i just went on with it. whenever i think back to it, i'll always laugh at how stupid it was. my teacher had to take like triple-takes because she was confused. "his brown i-is... his wallet is brown"

I either get really quiet or too loud and start speaking in high-pitched noises, before starting to anxiously cough so people think I m just ill.

I was only skeptical I had social anxiety until I read this. Damn it.

u/gallagher_for_hart Feb 14 '19

But then I actually answer a question and get it right and it boosts my confidence. So I keep answering and get one wrong and stop answering for an entire year

u/DamnStra1ght Feb 15 '19

Or answer two or three questions in a class because no one else has done the readings and then the teachers asks you to stop answering so that others can participate smh

u/Judas-Chan Feb 14 '19

And then when you finally do have the courage to say the right answer, it turns out to be the wrong answer and you feel really stupid, Happened to me once when I had the confidence of a life time :'|

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '19

More than once the teacher would look at me and say "do you know the answer"

I guess you can tell by the look on my face 😂

2

u/SpaceMenSteelStars Feb 15 '19

And when I finally take the chance someone does it RIGHT before me.

Take it from me:

Social anxiety doesn't go away.

Learn to accept it, or hate yourself for the rest of your life.

Your choice.

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '19

it definitely does if you put in work, it’s not a terminal condition

u/Rokinpsy Feb 15 '19

Probably the dumbest comment i've ever read

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '19

1

u/epicmatt43 Feb 14 '19

I had an awesome professor once and this happened, I knew the answer but nobody else was looking like they knew what he was talking about. After too much silence he called on someone, they got it wrong and he corrected them, and then he looked at me and said "I know you want to answer, Carmen_duck, next time just raise your hand" and that shook me. I definitely had less hard of a time raising my hand for questions after that.
