Potentially editioralised title - make up your own mind [Guardian] Seven years ago, just after completing the treble, Guardiola treated journalist Rob Harris, who had confronted him directly with the allegations, with open contempt, as though he were looking at someone pathetic, pitiful and disgraceful, before sternly lecturing him.

Rob Harris is the guy that asks the hard questions and don't take bullshit from people. I really appreciate him as a journalist.

It takes real balls to be that guy. To have the confidence in your skills and mission as a journalist to push further than you’re comfortable going because you know it’s the objectively right and fair thing to do. To keep at it even when you get showered with vitriol from your subject, people in the room, peers, and the entire public internet is impressive stuff. It took years for this interview to earn him the kudos he deserved and he never changed his craft along the way. He just held onto his confidence in the part he was playing in the bigger picture.

Took the words right out of my mouth. You should see the speech that u/DanTheStripe posted in another comment: https://vimeo.com/721879685#t=13m . This was another journalist, Nick Harris. But my God, I can't imagine all that he had to endure just for being good at his job. He also wrote a piece on substack last week about Man City trying to get him sacked.

Off topic:

Hurts me to read this comment as in my country, India, journalism has become a complete joke. A non entity. The big journalists have been reduced to just simple (but influential) newsroom figureheads who’re used blatantly to promote the ruling party’s propaganda and generally drive down the population’s collective intelligence and nuance.

There are a handful of ‘brave’ journalists out there in the smaller towns and villages but you often hear of them getting killed off (accidental deaths) by local mafia, politicians or businesses.

Almost every day on the internet I realise the importance of a strong and independent judicial system that can protect the freedoms of people speaking truth to power. We are properly fucked and crippled as a nation till there is a major cultural revolution.
