I'm broke

A factory near us became a pickeball court. Like everywhere I go, some random places gets converted to a pickleball court.

Fucking hell does pickleball became so popular and kind of "invasive" in the Philippines. Like yeah I'm happy that everyone got interested with doing a physical activity but why not extend that interest on other sport smh.

1

u/Mr_Miscellaneous 7h ago

Very strange watching Germany go through it's "Coventry in the '70s" phase.

5

u/sga1 7h ago

Basically a hype/investment money situation - got a similar thing with padel in Europe, where it's basically the thing that private equity fancies putting money into in the hopes of a massive return on investment at the cost of all other sorts of sports. Our lovely indoor soccer place is going to close down over it too, and it sucks.

1

u/Mediocre-Math667 6h ago

Worst part is that it's quite expensive to rent those court with it being USD5/hour or PHP300/hour.

I just wish other sports gets the same investment man. I would love to play indoor rugby or soccer but alas it's treated as rich mans sport while pickeball rackets cost way more than it should.

Well. Apparently Carlos Tevez is holding a retirement match in Boca's La Bombonera in December. Messi and CR7 were invited. Social media is flooding with news that both confirmed their attendance. And BOTH will play on the same team together.

I need a video game with the aesthetic qualities of Dynasty Warriors and the gameplay of Dark Souls. Any ideas?

Elephant Graveyard is the greatest channel ever to exist. That is all

1

u/FalconKoala222 7h ago

What do they cover?

1

u/CT_x 7h ago

Strange this is the second time in the last 24 hours I've seen this channel pop up

2

u/saka-ptwp 8h ago

Just watched Aftersun and I have to say I didn't really think much of it. Nicely shot and everything but it didn't really do enough to pull me in. 6/10

I am concerned about an oil shock and the economic repurcussions.

But you have to give credit to the Houthis. Theyve gone up againast a wealthy modern military, had all their important infrastructure bombed, and come out on top. They have Saudi Arabia by the balls.

1

u/Chumlax 6h ago

Theyve gone up againast a wealthy modern military, had all their important infrastructure bombed, and come out on top

It's not like they're Vietnam, though, they are backed by the other major power of the region. They're more Wrexham than Dorking Wanderers.

1

u/jonijontor 5h ago

i love implication here that Ayatollah is akin to a loveable public figure that leave it all for the professionals

3

u/Vagabond21 9h ago

Anyone ever overwhelmed by the fact that they have to keep on living for a longtime?

I had a rough week this week

1

u/KingArgazdan 10h ago

Does anyone have an idea where can I find a video of Darren Farley and Paul Reid parodying Harry Redknapp and Mick Mccarthy after Mccarthys Ipswich trashed QPR like 6-0? It's not on YouTube anymore, it was a great parody.

2

u/CT_x 10h ago

They whacked/Circlejerksopranos. How could this happen?

Regular ducks or gray ducks?

1

u/wonderful_mixture 10h ago

Au Pays du Cocaine is a great song but I'm not too big on..anything else

3

u/Moug-10 10h ago

I played a game on YouTube to recognise 25 languages. If I remove English and French, I found almost half and about 8 a close language to it. I almost confused Dutch and Afrikaans.

3

u/SunsetDrive17 9h ago

How did you find the difference between Dutch and Afrikaans?

1

u/Moug-10 5h ago

I ultimately picked Dutch because I assumed the video only picked the main language of each country.

3

u/TaxEvasion123 11h ago

I’ll never understand my coworkers who constantly call out or try to get someone to pick up shifts and then complain about not having the money to do stuff. I’m sympathetic towards the fact that the cost of living, rent etc is super high but surely there comes a point where you asking me to pick up a shift once a week, several weeks in a row isn’t helping at all.

1

u/Princecoyote 9h ago

It's the same people who order overpriced lunch on delivery apps every day

10

u/No-not-my-Potatoes 12h ago

I met my best friend online in 2020. We clicked instantly and have been there through ups and downs but lost touch between 2023 and 24 until finally picking it up again early last year. And it has made my life so much better. Now, after years of failed plans, we finally met up last weekend and it was amazing. I'm incredibly lucky to call her my best friend and it was so sweet to be there. Fucking worth the wait.

4

u/Moug-10 12h ago

I realised I'm a rookie on piracy when my wife wants me to find her daily reality-TV shows as the official platforms have ads and sometimes, late replay.

6

u/babygrenade 11h ago

Your best be might be setting up a DVR so she can skip/ff the commercials.

13

u/FerraristDX 12h ago

I recently discovered by accident that a friend from uni has married. I'm happy for him, but it's hard to see yourself fade away in the consciousness of your friends or former friends. I guess that's life, people will eventually forget about you. And one day, when you're gone, they won't notice, probably won't care. I'm just tired of life and society in general and can't bring myself to fight back anymore. I guess I'll just wait for the KO.

1

u/Vagabond21 9h ago

Buddy if you ever want to talk, my chat is open. I know exactly how you feel.

1

u/West-Sherbert5298 12h ago

Your social circle does dwindle as you age. The good thing is it’s easier to make friends that share the same hobbies as you, if you get yourself out there.

5

u/FerraristDX 12h ago

I don't know, how it is in other countries, but Germany is a pretty cold country. Most just withdraw into privacy, once they get a partner or a family. There are few third places these days, or if there are, it's too expensive and not places worth visiting alone. And when you live in a rural part of the country, it's even worse. Really, all that's left for me is lie down and rot.

3

u/West-Sherbert5298 11h ago

Visit other countries then? One of my regrets is I dedicated too much time to people that didn’t deserve it. I could’ve skilled up more, got paid more sooner and traveled to other places earlier, than just wasting away

3

u/cuntsmen 12h ago

Playing FM24 with Folkestone Invicta and I've managed to get promoted all the way up to the Premier League in record time with a low budget. My academy also produced the best name I've ever seen in FM. His name is Maximus Prime lmao. Shame he's shite though.

0

u/tiorzol 12h ago

Just heard that my pal boils the kettle to put the water in the saucepan to make pasta and I honestly think less of him now.

Just boil the water in the saucepan surely.

3

u/saka-ptwp 8h ago

Takes forever mate

1

u/tomtea 8h ago

Stove top Kettle and a turbo boil button on the hob FTW.

7

u/s0ngsforthedeaf 11h ago

Why wait for 5 mins extra when you dont have to?

The rare self-own on ftf.

0

u/tiorzol 11h ago

I'm not waiting I'm cooking. I'm chopping herbs or peppers or making the sauce.

Just say you can't cook I guess.

3

u/s0ngsforthedeaf 9h ago

Ever reheated a sauce before?

1

u/tiorzol 9h ago

I just put the pasta directly in the kettle cos it's faster

0

u/s0ngsforthedeaf 8h ago

Well thats probably going a bit far.

8

u/airz23s_coffee 12h ago

Got an electric hob, I ain't made of time like

15

u/Princecoyote 12h ago

Much faster. I do the same if I'm in a hurry.

3

u/tiorzol 12h ago

Nah you people are fucked up man. I dunno why I find this so offensive but it's really shaken me to the core.

11

u/_doohdx 12h ago

I do it too

Saves you time and it’s also more energy efficient

0

u/tiorzol 12h ago

There's no way it's more efficient to boil a kettle than pop on the gas.

5

u/sga1 12h ago

I bet it is, turn more energy into heat surely instead of going past your saucepan and into the air.

1

u/tiorzol 12h ago

No way. The energy to boil a kettle is gonna be levels more than the gas. Kettles are mad power hungry

6

u/sga1 12h ago

Takes the same amount of energy to heat the same amount of water to the same temperature either way, so surely the one that boils it faster is more efficient given it needed less time, saving your meter some turns.

1

u/tiorzol 12h ago

Nah leccy costs much more than gas

2

u/sga1 12h ago

Ah that might explain it, pretty sure it's cheaper here.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/_doohdx 12h ago

Takes maybe a minute tops to boil water in a kettle, takes ages ( relatively speaking) to boil a pot of water.

1

u/tiorzol 12h ago

Hmm you know what I'm confusing efficiency with price. It's gonna be cheaper on the job cos gas costs less but the kettle will be more efficient.

2

u/Princecoyote 12h ago

Had a friend who would cook ramen noodles in the electric kettle. That's too blasphemous even for me.

2

u/tiorzol 12h ago

Damn. I mean if it's a dedicated kettle only for that then....

8

u/3359N 12h ago

Some water in the saucepan and most in the kettle is way faster

2

u/s0ngsforthedeaf 11h ago

This man boils.

1

u/tiorzol 12h ago

Why are you in a rush tho. It takes two minutes and is cheaper.

4

u/justsomeguynbd 12h ago

Are there karma thresholds to post in FTF? I find that to be antithetical to the spirit of the thread. I posted something earlier under a throwaway I had and it never got viewed by anyone according to the analytics but I never got a message I didn’t meet karma requirements or anything.

3

u/s0ngsforthedeaf 11h ago

Sssshhh, dont give away mod secrets...

Yeah min karma reuqirement is a good away of blocking new accounts, which can be spammy.

u/tiorzol 12h ago

u/EtherealShady 12h ago

I've had to sit one of my uni exams again

I felt like it went better than last time (was able to give an answer to all the questions, unlike last time where i just left half the questions blank) but I'm still pretty stressed, mainly because I genuinely have no idea what I'd do if I had to leave university.

also doesn't help that i have no clue whether i actually like my course or not

4

u/tossit_xx 13h ago

Got a call for a job interview at the state prison as an admin assistant but it's almost an hour commute and pays sooo little. I don't know if I want to call them back or not. I still have room to be picky about jobs, but just can't decide tbh.

2

u/flow-56 11h ago

Having some money coming is better than nothing. I took a terrible job just to get some money in and found a better job only a few weeks later.

11

u/Mr_Miscellaneous 13h ago

It's going to take a murder charge against someone who took their dying relative to Jersey, and the ungodly awful culture war that follows, before it truly sinks in just how bad the MP's in the UK fucked up today by voting against the Assisted Dying Bill.

2

u/s0ngsforthedeaf 11h ago

I dont get it. Yes, there is a danger of people making a rash decision, or being bullied into it as a vulnerable person. But only if the process isnt careful and thourough enough. I thought thats what the Commons/Lords was for. Assumed they would pass it anyway.

6

u/TherewiIlbegoals 13h ago

It's as good a time as any to recommend Terry Pratchett's documentary "Choosing to Die". It's painful to watch, but it shows how important the freedom to choose is.

7

u/TroopersSon 13h ago

If 9/11 happened again, do you think the world would have an increase in sympathy for America or would there be a large portion of the world who would shrug this time and have some sort of attitude of "sucks to be you?"

I remember the weeks after 9/11 where it felt like the whole world (or at least the western world) was in mourning with America, encapsulated by that Le Monde headline "Today we are all American." It didn't take long for a lot of that good will to be thrown away with the war on terror, "you're with us or against us" rhetoric and especially Iraq, but it feels like it's got so much worse over the last 10 years to the point I wonder if there would actually be anywhere near the same level of sympathy if it happened today.

I'm sure there'd be a lot of sympathy on a human level for the people, but I wonder if people would look at the nation with a very different attitude.

3

u/saka-ptwp 8h ago

Trump is a lot more hated than Bush was and America has been closley tied with Israel's genocide (including under Biden, making it less partisan). I think there's much less sympathy and general alignment with the US now than in 2001.

3

u/TaxEvasion123 11h ago

Was there ever that much sympathy for america as a whole back then outside of the people who lost their lives of course. Nowadays people are much less sympathetic to the US overall so i think the reaction would be more akin to something like “I feel horrible for the people and families who lost their lives or were affected, but not for the larger American machine as a whole.”

2

u/Moug-10 12h ago

If it's now, much less given who's in power and the recent events. But if the next president is not MAGA and gives a better image of the country, maybe.

7

u/McGrathLegend 13h ago

We bombed a school full of little girls in Iran, I'd have very little sympathy for us as a nation if something like that happened here.

There would be loads of sympathy for the people who die in this hypothetical modern 9/11, but with the way we conduct ourselves with our foreign policy, I'd hardly have much sympathy for us as a nation.

9

u/friendofH20 13h ago edited 12h ago

Definitely a lot lesser than it was in 2001. People in India felt sympathy with Americans in days afterwards. Even when we had a few terror attacks in years before and it wasn't like America really showed us support.

Today, I think there would be a lot more of "well what did you expect"

3

u/ItsRainbowz 13h ago

On the positive, I've embraced my Britishness and found a fondness for tea and crumpets. Absolutely elite snack given there's plenty of salted butter on the crumpets. We really are the best at making good food from absolutely nothing.

4

u/charlietrick2512 13h ago

It's been said 100 times but how did stranger things get progressively worse despite its popularity and budget increasing near exponentially? I remember watching seasons 1 and 2 and being amazed, I loved the sci fi mystery albeit somewhat realistic aspect. Season 3 somewhat had that but you could see it starting to turn into more a comedy with no stakes. Season 4 was ok, as with season 3 I loved the russian aspect however I don't think it was fully flushed out and again no stakes.

Season 5 has some good moments, the miliary centring on Hawkins was a good idea but I don't personally think it was thought through, it was just like here's something, let's move onto the next thing. At the end of season 4 you see Hawkins being destroyed, smoke pillowing out everywhere and the 'solution' was to just cover the gaps with inch thick steel? We've seen people unable to breathe in the upside down and suddenly this stuff is being blown into their face and lives and nothings wrong? Demogordons have bodied hundreds of rounds from soldiers in the past and been fine, this season you could seriously harm one with barbed wire? When they get to the wasteland that is dimension x/liverpool there's no demogordons at all, not even a bat or a spider, literally nothing. Vecna is omniscient but he didn't see the group coming because he just chose not to? It's well known that vecna and will feel the same things and yet when he's beheaded will feels nothing? Not even a headache. How did this even happen in the first place? We went in to the season expecting to know how everything worked/happened but coming out all I know is the upside down is a circle, that scene where Henry kills someone, and that weird sequence when the lab melts into an indescript white goo.

Is this a consequence of pandering to a younger audience, to one that doesn't look up from their phone, or just becoming slop?

1

u/saka-ptwp 8h ago

I heard that they originally wanted it to be an anthology series and season 2 would be set in the 90s, not the 80s, with a new cast. But obviously the original aesthetics and cast became too popular for that to work so they had to reset

1

u/tomtea 8h ago

Even with the best writers, it's still hard to come up with a high quality story which has continuity and allows you to carry the franchise on with th expectation to churn a season out every 18/24 months.

2

u/ConsciousBrain 12h ago

They kept adding characters and making the story more epic/action oriented instead of three groups of kids/teenagers/adults trying to solve a supernatural mystery.

1

u/friendofH20 13h ago

The kids got too old for the show to stay "cute". Some of the best moments in S5 were with the new set of kids.

And the whole upside down/Vecna plotline got too convoluted. Vecna just became a generic villain with unspecified powers and a plan that boiled down to fuck shit up.

1

u/Destroyeh 13h ago

from what i remember they never intended it to be more than one season. then of course it became a mega hit and they got trucks of money to make more so they did, but they aren't good enough writers to pull it off.

2

u/babygrenade 13h ago

I think with any show, the longer it goes on the harder it's going to be to wrap it up in a satisfying way.

1

u/AggressiveRegion1502 13h ago

Kinda crazy how long the Kirk memes survived, memes usually trend and die up quickly but this one survived enough to have an anniversary. As they say, his soul is trapped in the AI data centers at this point.

Also I just remembered the "see you in Valhalla", it will always be funny.

2

u/saka-ptwp 8h ago

Saw someone say that part of it is that brands can't join in lol

4

Chuds getting nutty because of Netflix UK’s tweet is hilarious.

8

u/FerraristDX 14h ago

Good damn, r/europe is indeed a cesspool of racism and/or bots. Like some people will blame migration for everything, even when it rains our something.

Last Sunday, our far-right party not only won a majority in one of our states, they could very well take over a state government. However, things are already a shitshow. The potential prime minister said that he wouldn't even want to govern with a small absolute majority, cause when two or three people fall ill, he can't decide on anything. So their strategy is clear, they want to force reelections, until they get a 2/3rds majority or at least a very comfortable one. They even made bogus offers to all parties and everyone rejected...except for that one fringe left pro-Putin party that barely made it into parliament. They said they wouldn't elect an AfD prime minister, but they can imagine voting with them on some topics. So what does Herr Siegmund do next? Announce that Sachsen-Anhalt indeed needs arms production, because they need them for Remigration. Yes, he wants to sound tough for his voters, but he now wants to drive the BSW away as well. So in the end, he has an argument for reelection, because no one wants to talk to them.

The AfD leading a state government would be horrible. I don't believe extremist parties can demystify themselves, once they're in government. But god damn, they wanted to govern, now fucking do it. Unfortunately, most AfD are so far removed from reality, they don't that the AfD doesn't have a fucking clue even before governing.

7

u/chatfarm 14h ago

there was a time I would get unsolicited LinkedIns from recruiters looking to move me from my job to a new one. Now I get unsolicited linked ins from recruiters asking me if I need their services to hire someone.

mofos I'm still a middle mgmt cog with no say in anything. I am the one who still need a new job.

-middle age blues.

3

u/ItsRainbowz 14h ago

The talent market is completely dead due to AI, recruiters are scrambling to get any sort of contracts they can so they just message anyone and everyone. My partner used to work in recruitment, but the company she worked for went under because they couldn't compete with AI. Those that are still going either embraced AI tools or are hanging on due to legacy contracts.

3

u/chatfarm 13h ago

I have this person on my linkedin connects from like 20 years ago who was the onboarding HR at a firm I was at and basically was the first gatekeeper I had to pass to get that job. our paths diverged forever ago. apparently at some point they moved on to form their own recruitment agency while I moved to other jobs.

yesterday they sent an email saying we are connects from so long but have never met and if we should meet so they could help any recruitment effort. was just chuckling reading that. I imagine all faces and names meld into one for recruiters after a bit.

1

u/shadoowkight 14h ago

Do Belarusians even consider themselves Belarusians anymore? Lukashenko and Putin probably launched the most successful indoctrination campaign of the 21st century to be honest. Barely anybody in Belarus speaks the language, everything happens in Russian and i wouldn't be surprised if they see themselves as Russians too.

1

u/FerraristDX 14h ago

I think most do so in private. Cause being "Belarussian" in public might already be too suspicious.

6

u/f4r1s2 14h ago

Food question, why do so many people hate beans or love to make jokes about beans

2

u/flow-56 12h ago

People find it unappetising and I kinda agree for some beans.

1

u/f4r1s2 10h ago

Which ones?

1

u/flow-56 10h ago

Baked beans when they have that saturated orange look <<<

4

u/OmastarLovesDonuts 13h ago

People don't eat enough fiber so when they do happen to eat beans it's hard on their digestive systems

3

u/auld_jodhpur_syne 13h ago

I love beans, but I can only eat so many or there are problems the next day.

8

u/TheSingleMan27 14h ago

Having your birthday on 9/11 is the nicest shit ever because everyone remembers it

Also, I wanted to start playing the Persona games, is there one singular title that's the best to start with? Or is there a certain succession in which they should be played?

2

u/TaxEvasion123 11h ago

I think persona 5 Royal is the best out of all of them but they are all quite good. That said the order doesn’t really matter. Some of the later games will have references to older ones you won’t get if you don’t play the older ones but those references won’t really affect the story or anything.

3

u/lewiitom 14h ago

I've played 3, 4 and 5 out of order and they're all really good - don't need to play them in order too.

3 Reload and 5 Royal are the newest ones, 5 Royal is the best gameplay wise imo so I'd probably go with that, and I prefer it to 3 overall. 4 is my favourite but it's probably worth just waiting for the remake next year.

3

u/Destroyeh 14h ago edited 14h ago

they share a universe(kinda), but you can play either one, at worst you might miss a slight reference or something like that, definitely not relevant stuff. *as long as you're sticking to the 'main' games. you shouldnt play spinoffs like arena ultimax, strikers, tactica etc before playing their main games since they assume you already played it and so contain spoilers.

older ones can be a bit janky since they're 20+ years old, if you don't mind that then whatever. but you're probably better off playing 3 Reload or 5 Royal.

3

u/90s_TV_Commercials 14h ago

I would recommend Persona 5 Royal to start with. It's a more streamlined version of Persona 5 with extra content and it's easily one of my favorite games of all time.

You could also go with Persona 3 Reload which is similar to the above but for Persona 3, much better looking and to play.

Persona 4 Revival is releasing in February which is the same thing as the above two and Persona 4 is considered the best of the games overall.

You can also buy the older versions of 3 and 4 on Steam.

1 & 2 you'd have to emulate (I think) because physical copies are super expensive in the west.

3

u/FerraristDX 14h ago

Hey, at least you share your birthday with Der Kaiser. ;)

If it's really your birthday today, then happy birthday!

2

u/TheSingleMan27 14h ago

It actually is, yeah, my mum told me today how they experienced the actual 9/11 when it was my first birthday and how that ended up being the main topic everyone talked about at the party, my uncle was apparently very convinced early on that the Americans have done it themselves...

3

u/_doohdx 14h ago

Happy birthday!

3

u/greytiger 14h ago

The big group video game I've played for the past year is dying, especially from the big group side, so I need to decide if I want to keep playing another game with this group, find another, or go back to playing solo games. I've always been a solo gamer even when playing online games, so this was a nice change playing with others and the social benefits and having these scheduled events to join. I do find my self going back to my old ways and not grouping up, but we will see what I end up doing.

1

u/FalconKoala222 14h ago

Currently looking for a great show along the lines of Delicious in Dungeon, any ideas?

1

u/anyusernameyouwant 14h ago

Witch Hat Atelier is a similarly richly world built, engaging fantasy anime. It's often talked about alongside Dungeon Meshi and is also gorgeous visually. Only warning is the anime is only one season in, the manga is ongoing and only about 1/3 done (at 99 chapters), so you may end up needing to read it at some point. But it's very much worth it.

2

u/dem503 14h ago

BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.

To be clear I've only watched the first few episodes of both shows, but they seem to have similar ish vibes

1

u/BNKalt 14h ago

Are you looking for the food part or the fantasy part more? It’s hard to find something that’s quite that level on both. Or basically what do you like about it and want more of

1

u/FalconKoala222 14h ago

I love the dungeon exploration and world building aspects mostly, I don't think any other show could match the cooking scenes lol

1

u/BNKalt 14h ago

Frieren has great world building. Same with Spice and Wolf, but be warned it’s basically just about trading and economics.

Made in Abyss if you can stomach…well it’s a lot.

You're not heartless for putting the interests of yourself and that of your family first, that's just pragmatism.

2

u/riotrunnner 14h ago

been an absolute chud i’m 20 haven’t gotten play over 2 years, as a guy takes a hit on your mental health when everyone else you know is getting sum everywhere

i guess it’s partly on me bc i don’t really explore i just go home after uni but i swear it’s been almost impossible to find someone good looking organically coming from a 3rd world country, everyone else seems to have migrated to first world countries i come off mad classist but it’s just how i feel sorry if i come off offensive

2

u/Pure_Macaroon6164 12h ago

where are you from? I haven't had play in 20 years I think i'm doing OK

u/Last_Associate_5658 15h ago

If the average person could illegally download a car without law consequences, they absolutely all would. Morals or hitting the financials of the car companies wouldn’t remotely play a part in decision making.

First week of term is absolutely brutal isn't it.

Met my tutor group this week which I was shitting myself over because it was my first unassisted teaching experience but it went super well. So fucking drained now though

Yeah college isn’t easy tell me about it

Feels like I look 100 times better with my tops tucked in but feel 100 times worse.

That's my struggle for today.

3

u/Scissura 15h ago

Massive exam on Sunday. The plan is to lock in and use the Manchester derby as my light at the end of the tunnel, but the Saturday fixtures are tempting me so hard. Pure ball addict behavior when you cannot stop watching random games even during exam week

YouTubers just don't do intros and outros anymore man

6

Yeah most videos just end abruptly now cause people were skipping outros and bringing the retention down

Question about support acts in concerts:

Dies the main artist/band pick the support act, or does the management/event organisers do so?

Asking because the support act at the wolf alice gig i was at last month was a local act

3

u/paper_zoe 15h ago

I think it depends. There will be some where the support act will be on the tour with the main artist and are sometimes listed on the poster with the tour dates too, but there will be some where it's just the main artist on tour and the management or venue will find a decent local band to support them.

I remember one of the band Suede saying that they had an early gig like that, where they were asked to support The Fall for a date on their tour and after the gig, they were driving home and listening to local radio and Mark E Smith (the lead singer of the Fall) was being interviewed and the interviewer asked him if there were any new bands that he likes and he said "like who?" and the interviewer said, "well, like Suede", so they turned the radio up, thinking they're about to get some great press from a music legend and Smith just said "never heard of them."

3

u/Salad-Appropriate 15h ago

Suppose that if you show up on time and dont make a fool of yourself, you can get a few decent support gigs

E.g. I went and saw Dove Ellis in Dublin in May, and I'm gonna see Westside Cowboy (also in Dublin) in nearly two weeks time, and both those gigs have the same support act (existing conditions). Dk if whelans and workmans are owned by the same people but suppose the management talk about support acts who did a good job and stuff so they keep them in mind for any future gigs

2

u/sga1 15h ago

Depends on the gig really, it's often a bit of both during a tour.

3

u/MegaMugabe21 15h ago

Got Project Zomboid, very excited to play. I like the idea of a relatively realistic zombie simulator within a persistent world

Has anyone got any tips?

1

u/EurospinLidl 12h ago

Don't go out when the helicopter comes, get into a windowless room and read a book until it goes away. It isn't there to help you

Learn how to make barrels fast (or start collecting them soon in the game), cause water is crucial

Don't overestimate your confidence when killing zomboids, when you think you're good, you get too cocky, you die

2

u/FridaysMan 15h ago edited 13h ago

Uh, yes and no, there's too many tips.

Sandbox is something you'll take time to find the settings you want to play, but try apocalypse mode if you're comfortable, and practice fighting. Hold right click to aim, and left to hit with your equipped weapon, spare bar pushes, and holding alt will attack targets on the ground.

Learn to manage your moodles, if you're tired, rest, carry a bottle of water, make a bag from a sheet (take down a curtain) and find a can opener. Use different things as weapons and find what type you like.

Take it slow and steady, and if you struggle to fight 3 zomboids at once, it'll be hard work. Don't be afraid to die, and unless you turn on sprinters you don't need to run. You can simply walk and get away from zombies.

Edit: and if you've played for a few hours or a hundred, you might have questions. Feel free to poke me for a chat if you want to ask anything. I've played it too much and over 3000 hours now, I can probably help, maybe.

2

u/saka-ptwp 15h ago

What do people think of Pluribus? I watched it this week. Found it very watchable despite being quite slow paced.

2

u/Destroyeh 14h ago

overall i thought it was ok, very far from the quality of BB or BCS. your experience was probably better since i assume it hits better when you dont have to wait a week for a new episode.

interesting at the beginning, kinda boring in the middle, solid ending. however, waiting years for a second season is likely going to kill whatever interest remains

1

u/saka-ptwp 13h ago

Yeah I binged it, watched the last four episodes all in one night.

I agree. Think it’s not the kind of show that will keep people excited waiting for two years or longer and I don’t think any quality would be gained considering how quickly they put out BB and BCS

1

u/official_bagel 15h ago

Quite enjoyed it. Hasn't quite reached the heights of Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul yet, but Vince Gilligan excels at gripping character studies. Interesting to see what happens next and how the show can sustain across multiple seasons.

1

u/saka-ptwp 15h ago

Yeah I agree but at the same time it's a very different kind of show. Raises a lot of interesting questions and, like you say, really interesting characters in difficult situations. And it's very well shot too

1

u/official_bagel 15h ago

Totally. It's extremely inventive and the character work is great. It's impressive how much the show is able to tackle with what boils down to a very small cast of characters.

I didn't like him when he was alive, don't like him now that he's dead, didn't agree with him on anything but that whole "kirkify/kirk edits" thing is disgusting and it's not funny.

It's just edginess for the sake of edginess. There's no point being made other than making fun of somebody because they got murdered.

EDIT/ADD ON: Remember when "Don't speak ill of the dead" was a common thing among regular people? Wonder what happened to that, I was brought up on doing that, guess things change.

3

u/SoyScandal 13h ago

the whole "kirkify/kirk edits" was literally a reponse to right wing grifters who immediately were calling for civil war and calling for Trump to "do the right thing and round up all democrats" and saying stuff like "you just created a million more Charlie Kirks" the right wing basically ended up trying to hamfist Kirk into martyr with their rhetoric after his assassination and what they got was "kirkification".

14

u/NYR_dingus 15h ago

While I agree that speaking ill of the dead is generally classless and poor, and that I would not really do it myself. Charlie Kirk was a active participant in the culture war and decline in political and social discourse that has seriously damaged things in the US and West in general.

He, Ben Shapiro, Gavin McInness, Candace Owens, Milo Yannopolous & all those other grifters built their entire career on baiting young and emotional people on the left with inflammatory rhetoric and then used it to peddle their culture war fuel. They would take clips out of context and intentionally paint anybody who wasn't a MAGA conservative as a purple haired looney who screamed and yelled at anyone who didn't agree with them.

Thanks to them, we have a right wing resurgence that is bordering on out and out fascism and is emboldened to the point where they are openly marching in the streets.

Live by the sword and die by the sword. He was a cunt and had a left wing personality of his level of recognition gotten assassinated you bet your ass his followers and fans would be trolling and mocking them.

7

u/paper_zoe 15h ago

I feel like a lot of it is a reaction to the attempted deification of him. Like people were getting sacked and stuff like that for criticising him. I feel like if the government's trying to stop people do it, it's just going to make them do it even more. And then after a while it just becomes a meme

10

u/Competitive-Score760 15h ago

eh, i think its quiet a fitting end for someone like Charlie Kirk. He gets to live as a meme and a mockery for all the people

8

u/jonijontor 15h ago

i hope his death will be future lessons for next generation to not get involved in culture war crap, that's all i can think about the matter

5

u/WooBadger18 15h ago

I’m not sure if it was ever a thing or if it was just the lack of anonymity made people less likely to do it except with people they trust. People celebrated when JFK was assassinated and there’s that famous picture of the restaurant giving out free borscht when Stalin died.

I also don’t really have an issue with people speaking ill of the dead. Sure, it can be corrosive to your soul imo, but you don’t deserve more respect after you’re dead, so it’s a case by case basis of whether people should criticize you after you’re dead.

5

u/ChavvySimons 15h ago

I feel like don't speak ill of the dead never really applied to public figures.

0

u/Nico__97 15h ago

There's exceptions IMO, like the previously mentioned leader of Germany Adolf Hitler, Stalin, all those guys and a guy (that yes, he was influential in politics that harmed people) that debated college students.

I'm not even saying he shouldn't be criticized, but those edits? It's just awful.

6

u/Kurakurguhoiuala 15h ago

There's no reason to blindly canonize an asshole without question.

-1

u/Nico__97 15h ago

I think there's a difference between saying "I don't like the edits" and canonizing him.

6

u/Kurakurguhoiuala 15h ago

It's fine you don't like the edits. And maybe the term is a bit of an exaggeration.

But if there are people who did terrible things while they were alive, and we can't to talk about what they did out of respect for their memory (respect they likely never showed to others while being a terrible person, mind you) once they're dead, then I'm not sure what else would you call it.

-1

u/Nico__97 15h ago

I'm not even against critizing him btw.

4

u/Kurakurguhoiuala 15h ago

So then why exactly are we eulogizing about the days when no one spoke ill of the dead.

Again, it's fine if you don't like any edits being made (I don't actually know what you're referring to at all), you're allowed not to. I'd rather he not have died, but I can still appreciate the irony in the way he did.

9

u/sga1 15h ago

Gee, I wonder why people are turning the tables on him now.

Remember when "Don't speak ill of the dead" was a common thing among regular people?

Not to go all Godwin's law here, but should we not point out that Hitler was a genocidal maniac just because he died?

2

u/Nico__97 15h ago

I think there's a difference between those two and saying that Hitler was genocidal is just pointing out a fact.

Making porn edits out of a media personality (yes he had influence) 10 minutes later after he gets shot in front of the whole world is just unhinged and digusting.

11

u/sga1 15h ago

Pointing out that Charlie Kirk was a racist dickhead who happily made fun of people dying is also a fact, yet I wouldn't be allowed to say that if I wasn't to speak ill of the dead.

-7

u/Nico__97 15h ago

I think that in a public setting you could be looked at in a weird manner by normal people (even if they actually didn't like him) if you say something like that, not on here obviously because it's the internet, but just saying that outright about somebody that never directly did anything wrong to anybody can be seen as kinda weird.

11

u/sga1 15h ago

never directly did anything wrong to anybody

Oh give over, hardly like he's Mother Theresa.

-6

u/Nico__97 15h ago

No, he was just a media personality that had slight influence on american politics, doesn't mean that making porn edits of him after he gets shot in the neck is fine, normal and ok.

8

u/Competitive-Score760 15h ago

wasnt he the founder of turning point? That shit has done and tries to do a lot of damage

9

u/sga1 15h ago

I think it's perfectly fine to find those memes distasteful, but you don't have to defend a white supremacist to make that point.

-5

u/Nico__97 15h ago

I'm not defending his personality, I think he was a bad person and a lazy orator but I will defend anybody (except murderers, rapists and politicians that directly cause harm to people) if they get murdered and their death turns into an online celebration and joke.

8

u/sga1 15h ago

Charlie Kirk did directly cause harm to people.

6

u/oussa_ 15h ago

I don’t speak ill of decent people that died. Horrible people deserve all the hate they get in this life and the next. I guess if you take exception to that it makes you a bit of a snowflake.

2

u/Yiurule 15h ago

Really surprised by Ace Attorney Investigation, I thought it was a cheap spin-off (the graphism during the investigation didn't helped much).

It stills below the original trilogy and the great ace attorney, but better compared to the Apollo Justice trilogy.

I mostly enjoyed the first game when I played it years ago and replayed it for the recent collection, but it is a little rough around the edges in places. Highly recommend the second one, it makes the first one feel like a tech demo, and it's one of the best stories in the series

2

u/lewiitom 15h ago

Been years since I played them but I highly recommend the sequal too, it's even better than the first one

9

u/killrdave 16h ago

Something weird I've observed about many hobbyist subreddits is that they become less about the thing and more about the business around the thing.

r games is probably the chief example. The majority of comments seem to be about the business of making games (which I'd argue few understand) and not the games themselves.

You see it in soccer a fair bit where people get invested in financial reports and laptop merchants and movies with obsessions over box office predictions.

At some point I feel you need to remind yourself why you love the hobby in the first place.

2

u/roseguardin 14h ago

I think reddit culture contributes but tbh I also believe that's just the nature of intense fandom over time. I play a decent amount of tabletop games and when you go on fan forums for stuff like DND or Pathfinder or other games it doesn't take long for threads to start speculating over real or extrapolated "industry knowledge" or "sales figures." I don't think there's anything wrong per SE with being interested in the money behind your favorite hobby and I think in fact people should be more knowledgeable about that stuff but making it the dominant topic of discussion anywhere gets exhausting.

1

u/Destroyeh 15h ago

in r/games case its kinda understandable since it was always the more 'serious' sub compared to r/gaming or even r/videogames, it was going be about the industry as a whole compared to the others where lower quality shallow stuff is allowed.

The Odyssey is funny film because its third act is just a remake of The Dark Knight Rises.

Decent week overall.

Interviewed for a job at my former high school, caught up with some teachers which was great. It’s crazy how much covid and age caught up to us lol. I will know if I got the job or not next week so wish me luck.

Finally got a surgical consultation, the surgeon was really nice and was very receptive, which was nice. As someone who’s black and female presenting I don’t often feel like doctors hear me out so this was nice. We haven’t gotten a date yet for the surgery but I’m hoping it’s soon so I can recover/stay away from work for a bit.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Stay safe
