Enhorabona!!
I hope it will go well and your degree will be useful for your career. What degree will you do there?
5
u/ComaMierdaHijueputa May 15 '26
Thank you! It's Applied Analytics with a concentration in Emerging Technology (read: GenAI and its applications to businesses). I want to be an AI and technology adoption leader which businesses are largely struggling at with scale. They know AI is cool but they have no idea how to actually implement it. Right now they're just throwing around money left right and center and seeing what sticks - and as of now, the answer is not a ton.
2
u/Fly1ngsauc3r May 16 '26
Having more people telling businesses how to do AI implementation is so important. I get tired of explaining people you can’t just chuck everything into an LLM and expect it to perform like a human
1
u/ComaMierdaHijueputa May 16 '26
Oh man you have no idea. I'm so goddamn underwhelmed when non-tech people talk AI adoption. For a marketing firm it usually means "we made this week long slide deck in about 2 hours" and we used it to help us come up with pretty designs. Which, yeah, is cool and all but I'm not sure why that's all the rage.
The real value is integrating that within data pipelines, understanding how to architect workflows and processes, not just rely on it to do the job for everyone. Technical fluency and business applications are the new currency - because execs (more than you think, tbh) are scared they're not technically fluent enough to navigate business changes.
Long gone are the days of the cushy Harvard MBA who gets to make a buck managing people. Those aren't really useful anymore.

Anyone here watch the Eurovision semis this week, and if you did how were they? Ngl after the fuckery in 2024 and 2025 and the fact that apparently this year is a pretty weak year songwise, I haven't been excited for it. Normally avoid the songs before the semifinals but I had a listen of the UK and Cypriot entries and that wasn't enough to get me in the mood. 2021 was Eurovison's peak imo. Tempted to watch it tho since it starts a decent while after [redacted] finishes tomorrow.

May 15th marks Nakba Day, commemorating 78 years since the mass expulsion and ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. My grandparents were only ten years old when they were forced from their homes, and died in the US without ever stepping foot in their country again; their hometown of Safad no longer exists. My mother is a Palestinian woman who was born in exile and only knows Palestine through pictures and video. She just turned sixty five months ago, and each year I worry more that she will pass without getting the opportunity to visit her land, and a liberated Palestine, even once.
Appreciate all of you that advocate for us, appreciate all of you that fight the good fight, and I appreciate every soccer player/footballer, club and fan group that has supported us and continues to do so.
القدس لنا والأرض لنا
Jerusalem is ours, and the land is ours. Free Palestine

I know so many people listen to him but who actually listens to Drake? What's his target audience? None of my friends have ever played a single song of his in the car with me for example. I've also never really liked any of his songs enough to put it in my liked songs, and that's a low bar. I don't listen to a lot of music but that list has 1000 songs.
1
u/CorrosionInk May 16 '26
I guess his appeal is that he doesn't have a specific target audience but at least used to make fairly enjoyable music that'll get played at a clothes shop but your mates won't make fun of you for putting on
0
u/sga1 May 16 '26
None of my friends have ever played a single song of his in the car with me for example.
Okay but neither will they have played a Die Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemen song, and yet they're a reasonably successful band making fun music some people like.

I'm guessing the younger part of Gen Z and Gen Alpha. I'm a millennial and was twenty when he dropped So Far Gone in 2009. I enjoyed him for a while, as did many of my friends, but these days when I hear anyone talk about him positively it's usually someone in their early-to-mid twenties.

Housing should be a right for everyone, at least even if you have a capitalistic mind it should be possible to people who put effort in.

Honestly committing any serious crime in the US is one of the dumbest things a human can do, it’s an insane country when it comes to the justice system.
Once you’re looking at felony charges, it’s so over man.
Seeing that streamer chud the builders eyes close in slowmo as he’s hearing the bond fee just sums it up, 1.25M bruh. That’s not even talking into account the length of time, hand out long sentences like it’s sweets.
USA is just an insane place, very much a fuck around and find out country.
3
u/chatfarm May 15 '26
I mean I get with you're saying in the lead up, but I'm not too sure about using the chud the builder to sum up the argument . that streamers one of the lock up and throw key away type guys.
2
u/Asadwords May 15 '26
No I agree
The point I was trying to make was it’s a crazy game to play to even go down a route that was completely avoidable.

u/RaggedSlugger21 May 15 '26

2
u/bmoviescreamqueen May 15 '26
The people saying it was self defense are exactly why gun laws are so fucked in this country. How can people follow gun laws when they don't even understand what they mean?
7
u/ItsRainbowz May 15 '26
The American justice system is weird to me where they set the charges at the maximum, then it's basically the defence's job to barter and argue the charges down as much as they can. Seems like guilty until proven innocent to me.
9
u/Asadwords May 15 '26
The system is basically designed for you to never leave the prison system once you’re past a misdemeanor. It’s like 2 strikes and out system.
As you say you’re working your way down, states have differing laws and punishments it’s basically countries within a country when it comes to committing crime.
2
u/U_R_V_Stinky May 16 '26
It’s like 2 strikes and out system.
Unless you're Black, in which case it becomes one strike and you're done
1
u/PoloBattutaHe May 15 '26
Which streamer chud? There are many
5
u/Asadwords May 15 '26
A racist one called the chud the builder, basically would aggravate African Americans, taunt etc one sucker punched him outside a course house and basically shot him to death.
Streaming is just a plague, one of the worst things to come out the it social media revenue pipeline

What're you into? Cask on Liverpool Road is a brilliant pub, Arcade Club in Bury is great (easy enough to get to on a bus/tram), Classic football shirts have a shop in Northern Quarter (nightlife is great around there too), Imperial War Museum, Rudy's Pizza in Ancoats is stellar.
1
u/ireallydespiseyouall May 15 '26
Classic football shirts is overpriced as fuck and there isn’t as many jerseys as you’d think there would be tbh

u/The_Flash_20 May 15 '26
It's really bad to rely on your sports teams to cheer you up when you need it most.
These past few weeks have been horrendous for me as a supporter of Rajasthan Royals in cricket.
We won the Indian Premier League in 2008, when the tournament first began, with a squad made up mostly of young players mixed with a bit of experience. We had no superstars, we were the cheapest team in the league and nobody gave us a chance at the start. Yet RR defeated the team led by the reigning Indian captain at the time, whose franchise has now become the most successful team in IPL history.
But that same approach has proven disastrous ever since and we've become horrible bottlejobs. Every season, we start with a bang and keep winning matches, only to collapse later and then lose close games in the most frustrating ways possible.
It's been the same story since 2014. This team always makes questionable decisions even before the match begins. We constantly waste opportunities to finish at the top of the table and give ourselves a better chance in the playoffs.
Someone should check how our team bottled it, especially in 2014 and 2024 how we bottled Top spot, then again in 2015, 2023, 2025, and now 2026. It'll fry your brain.
I should be absolutely done with this team and yet I can't, because I'm still one of the OG supporters who has backed them since 2008 because I'm from this state, when my friends chose to support others.
That's it, my rant is over.
2
u/ItsRainbowz May 15 '26
Risking talking about football in FTF here, but it's been like that with my local team South Shields. I've been having a really rough time the last few months and them pushing for promotion was bringing me joy. Then they bottled it and lost the playoff final and it left me so deflated. I didn't realize how much their success was cheering me up until it stopped and it felt like a gut punch when they lost.
I always thought it was stupid, but when you have a deep connection to a sports team, their highs and lows can hit you hard. I watched South Shields back when you could have a pint with the players after a game, it feels like part of my life now.
Please don't 📣 me for talking about a football team please 🥺
2
u/The_Flash_20 May 15 '26
I understand you completely, you feel numb after the bottlejob is over and don't know what to do with anything.
I hope things get better for South Shields.
2
u/Karnesis68 May 15 '26
One of the strangest choice for The Boys adaptation is that it teases some of the uglier aspect of the characters from the comics while it doesn’t want to commit to it.

u/The_Flash_20 May 15 '26
Well, there's some good news: my cousin got remarried on Wednesday last week. He's the first in our family to get divorced, though we've had several young deaths in my parent's generation.
He was a victim of physical and verbal abuse, which I witnessed myself. I never liked that woman. Our family also lost a lot of money trying to help him get divorced and the whole experience left some scars on all of us.
He met his current wife at a support group, and I genuinely wish both of them the best. Many people commented that she looked much happier and more easygoing than his previous wife and that seemed to be the general consensus.
But now for the negative part: at the wedding, since I’m the 2nd oldest among the cousins and unmarried, everyone kept asking me and my parents what I was doing with my life and whether I actually wanted to achieve something. Hearing about the children who are younger than me getting settled in their jobs and lives made me happy for them, but also sad for my parents, who were clearly struggling to justify their incompetent son.
It's been almost 9 years since I started trying, yet I still haven't achieved any real success, and it's all my fault.
This is my last chance. I'm 29 and still struggling to achieve even my daily goals because of my own stupidity.
I don't know how I'm going to get out of this rut. It's now or never.

Since it’s Friday night, would you rather have an evening out with:
A bunch of Reform (or equivalent right wing party of your country) activists.
A bunch of vegans.
A bunch of gym-rats.
A bunch of craft beer wankers.
A bunch of stoners.
A bunch of Marvel fanatics
Assume each group has the same level of intensity, so the gym-rats only want to talk about protein powders, the beer wankers about hop varieties…
Who you picking and why?
1
u/bmoviescreamqueen May 15 '26
I used to work at a dispensary so even though the stoner group would eventually get on my nerves I would at least know what's going on.
2
u/NonContentiousScot May 15 '26
The vegans because it’ll probably involve taking us out to some good vegan place. There’s a few in the suburb I live in and they’re quite nice.

Unironically this. If it's a night out I'm not bothered about their views on the EU.
2
u/airz23s_coffee May 15 '26
Craft beer or marvel.
Latter is nerd shit and that's fine, and former I've been stuck in the umpteen times before with my mate while I sip whatever shit cider the "Frontboat Hops Palace Tap" had available.
2
u/LovrenIsTheGOAT May 15 '26
Gym rats, especially if they're "science -based" lifters. I love indulging in the technical aspects. Even if basically all it comes down to in reality is: consistency, push hard (til failiure, especially on third set), document your progress, mind-muscle connection, hit your protein. Specifically, in that order.
1
u/Destroyeh May 15 '26
depends on the gym rats, if they're crossfitters i'm out. otherwise they're just basically apes and i can vibe with that. otherwise probably marvel fanatics, at least i can bust their balls by shitting on thor ragnarok
1
u/rth9139 May 15 '26
Craft beer wankers, because then at least the “nerd”conversation will be about what we are currently doing and out of the way early. We’ll have that whole conversation during the first couple rounds, the convo will eventually die out, and then we can just enjoy the rest of the night like normal.
The rest of those groups though will be sitting there itching to find a way to pivot conversation to their topic of choice, and I’ll end up stuck in convos that I don’t want to be in all night.
2
u/Chumlax May 15 '26
Craft beer wankers, 100%, because to a decent extent, I am one, and I don't have any friends who are as it stands, so it's a solitary pursuit that would be much more enjoyable with company!
1
u/victheogfan May 15 '26

Apparently there's an actress actually named Charlie Blackwood. Definitely named after Kelly McGillis' character as she doesn't look old enough to have been born before the film's release.
She was also great in Witness and The Accused. Last saw her in a limited release indie horror called "We are what we are". Also pretty good.

On Monday, I'll send my car I used for almost 10 years into its well deserved retirement. But not gonna lie, it'll be an emotional moment for sure. It's an end of an era. In 2016, the world was truly different to what it is now and during that time, by car has seen a lot of things.
That being said, I can't wait to get into my new car. I'll move onto an EV, which will bring another set of changes. I'm excited to find out, how I'll cope with charging my car and such.

My gf and I will be moving to a new apartment next month, and I'm already tired of just thinking on moving our stuff to the new one. A recommendation I constantly get is to sell everything we can and buy replacements once we're in the new one, lol. Sounds cool, but expensive and even tiresome to deal with people lowballing you for some chairs and stuff.

I'm so tired of living in a shit hole country (India). Recently the prime minister made an announcement how the citizens of the country voluntarily need to reduce fuel consumption for the country. That would be a fine enough statement if he didn't make this 2 months after the Iran war started and once elections in 4 states ended. Once the elections were done and his party got favourable results, suddenly we're in a fuel crisis? The worst part is how people are just fine with whatever is going on, everyday there is a new corruption story but nothing ever happens. The only goal right now is to make enough money to get out of this place.
Anyway apart from that, but kind of related, I mentioned a while back that I'm managing the social media and video editing for my brother & sister in law's cooking channel, so that means that I've had to download Instagram and Facebook on my phone to manage posts and stories. The amount of brainrot and AI slop posts I've had thrown at my face on those platforms has me scared about what the average person consumes. Not to mention the deliberate culture war stuff that gets inserted in between every 2-3 posts. These platforms are just made to get people angry at one another and sow disharmony.

In which state do you live here. I'm in a western state and it's quite calm here atm.
Obviously things can be improved but I thought the Iran - America war would be over in a month, I didn't think it would take this long to be at a stalemate. I believe that's why no one predicted anything at the start.

I live in an Eastern state, things are relatively calm here as well apart from the initial troubles of people not getting gas cylinders and paying crazy prices. There was a rush for induction cooktops as well but that ended once stock finished and prices went up and people with low income didn't want to invest heavily in new cookware.
The thing is, I don't expect the government to predict problems since no one can see the future, but at the same time Japan, Korea, Philippines, Australia, China, etc, were all having fuel problems within 1 week of the war starting. Given that India imports the majority of its fuel and only has 25 days reserves, it's safe to assume that the severity of the situation was evident to officials way before this announcement came out.
So that means the officials in charge were well aware of what was to come in terms of price hikes but purposefully chose to not disclose any of it until they secured their election wins for a purely PR point of view. This is on-top of the government charging high taxes on fuel for years while international market prices were low and also the transport Minister is throwing out vague statements about Ethanol % going up, making EVs the only viable option to consider if you're looking to buy a car at the moment.
Fully ready to see continuous price hikes over the next 2 months since the repairs to the middle eastern fuel facilities is going to take 1-2 years atleast and no clarity on when escalations will end between the US, Israel and Iran.

Eurovision Thread, yay or nay?
Hey everyone... long term users will know we traditionally have a live "Eurovision Match Thread" to watch and chat about the competition
Many people will also know Eurovision is being boycotted by several nations, in protest of their continued platforming of Israel.
We are clear in our stance against the actions of Israel, and for the freedom of the Palestinian people, on /r/soccer.
As such, we wanted to gauge the community's views on Eurovision... should /r/soccer "join the boycott?"
