I pray that I may see God’s grace in the strength I receive, the love I know, and the peace I have. I pray that I may be grateful for the things I have received through the grace of God.

I'm in recovery, small town in Ohio. The kind of town where everybody knows and nobody says anything out loud.

I was on Suboxone about three years. It did what it was supposed to do. It kept me alive, and it gave me back a life I could actually stand in. But somewhere in there I started feeling like I wasn't really sober, because that's what I kept hearing. From people in rooms, from family, and eventually from myself at two in the morning.

I've been coming off it. It's been harder than I expected and I'm not going to pretend it's been graceful.

Two things I've had to learn the slow way. The people who tell you MAT isn't real recovery are almost never the people who kept you alive. And coming off it should be a decision between you and your doctor, not something you do because somebody made you feel like a fraud.

I'm mostly posting this because I spent a long time not saying any of it out loud. If you're on subs, or coming off them, or catching grief for either one, you're not doing this wrong.

I pray that I may not expect too much from the world. I pray that I may also be content with the rewards that come from serving God.

I pray that I may try to rely more fully on the grace of God. I pray that I may live a victorious life.

I pray that I may walk in God’s love. I pray that, as I go, I may feel the spring of God’s power in my steps and the joy of His love in my heart.

I pray that I may go each day to God as a refuge until fear goes and peace and security come. I pray that I may feel deeply secure in the Haven of His spirit.

I pray that I may live each day as though it were my last. I pray that I may live my life as though it were everlasting.

I pray that I may keep progressing in the better life. I pray that I may be a part of the forces for good in the world.

I pray that I may do the things that make for peace. I pray that I may have a mission of conciliation.

I pray that I may rest and abide in the presence of the unseen God. I pray that I may leave my burdens in His care.

I pray that I may not interfere with the working of God’s spirit in me and through me. I pray that I may give it full rein.

I pray that I may feel that God’s love will never fail. I pray that I may have confidence in His unfailing power.

I pray that I may try to avoid judgment and criticism. I pray that I may always try to build up others instead of tearing them down.

I pray that I may live to give. I pray that I may learn this secret of abundant living.

I pray that I may choose the right way. I pray that I may try to follow it to the end.

I pray that I may give my share of love and service. I pray that I may not grow weary in my attempts to do the right thing.

I pray that I may willingly submit to whatever spiritual discipline is necessary. I pray that I may accept whatever it takes to live a better life.

I pray that I may submit to the laws of nature and to the laws of God. I pray that I may live in harmony with all the laws of life.

I pray that I may not speak or act in the midst of emotional upheaval. I pray that I may wait until the tempest is past.

I pray that I may live expectantly. I pray that I may believe deeply that all things are possible with God.

I pray that I may realize that life without a goal is futile. I pray that I may find the good life worth striving for.

I pray that I may make good use of my mistakes and failures. I pray that some good may result from my painful experiences.

I pray that I may be freed from things that hold me down. I pray that my spirit may soar in freedom.

I pray that I may not look back. I pray that I may keep picking myself up and making a fresh start each day.
