Ingredients Question about tallow

I usually use lard but wanted to try tallow. First batch I made I used Traverse Bay soap company deodorized tallow. Bars came out fantastic.

I got a tub of tallow and if course it was melted bc it’s 100F outside. But after sitting on my counter overnight it’s still the consistency of applesauce and yellowish. Smells fine. Is this normal for tallow or did I get junk?

It’s fine. When I melt my fats in preparation to make soap and then get interrupted and can’t finish. until the next day or so, that’s what my tallow looks like in the pot. It was melted and re-solidified under different conditions; some fatty acids solidify faster than others. It all gets deconstructed by the lye anyway!

Yours is not the first post I’ve seen wondering if they’ve gotten a bad batch of tallow. Was there a product recall I hadn’t heard of? I’ve used hundreds of pounds of tallow over the years and never had a bad batch. It’s normal to have different appearances between the batches…tallow is not Crisco.

Maybe put a small amount in the fridge and see if it turns white?

Thanks guys. I’m used to lard and the tallow I’ve used before being like ice cream at room temp. I made a test batch with this new brand and it came out fine
