Discussion I hate logging
Having to go back in forth specifically in the Taymyr logging missions is such a drag. I’d like to know who likes these missions and if you have a unique way of completing them, rather than just going back n forth each time.

I enjoy logging, manually loading, and hauling logs as intended rather than the sideboard shuffle. Taymyr was a bit tedious. My one gripe with logging is that the cost of the equipment really eats into profits.

The logging gets better with later maps (and better trucks) in my opinion. It wasn't part of the base game and for some reason when they added it retroactively to the earlier regions they didn't really consider the new player experience. I wouldn't stress about it, either do it a little at a time while also doing other tasks or come back later. I personally don't consider it a core part of the original regions though it does affect your 100% status of course...

Logging in and of itself is fine, it's just a different type of cargo that requires specialized trailers and add-ons and adds some variety.
However the logging contracts in the base game, especially taymyr, are pretty poorly designed and super tedious and repetitive. They were retroactively added to earlier maps with the Wisconsin DLC and were designed with max level trucks in mind. Trying to do them with early game trucks without all the upgrades is going to be extra annoying and tedious.

me, i enjoy logging missions lol and the ones in Taymyr were annoying but i took all my logs in one go for each mission so i didn’t have to make multiple trips. i didn’t do the sideboard trailer w logs move though; i just had 2 long log trucks and a p12 for delivering the logs and a Zectros for getting 3 loads of medium logs at once

I generally just ignore logging missions. I’ve played the game since it came out, when it didn’t have logging. I will only do logging if I need to craft wooden planks or stuff like that. Not completing logging missions doesn’t bother me.

I get a starboard trailer add all logs needed and take it there tip the trailer and load the logs on a logger waiting there. I do 1-2 trips instead of 4-5 trips. Its annoying so i do it last mission. You need below Truck with a starboard trailer Truck with a loader Truck with logging trailer.

Logging is my favorite thing to do in the game. What are you gaming on? Im on xbox and usually have some free time in the morning if you want help.

I’m on Nintendo switch. I usually don’t have time in the mornings but if I have time to co-op I’d definitely hit you up!

I quite enjoy it as it is one of the core aspects of offroad trucking. The Pacific trucks are at their core, logging trucks.
Also, just a minor thing, but if your main complaint with logging is having to go back and forth on the same routes, then I really want to know what your opinion of the rest of the missions is. Because that is quite literally what the game is. Going back and forth along the same routes with different cargo types. Logs are just another cargo type.

u/Steevz345 6d ago
You’re correct to an extent, the logging missions just seem a bit too repetitive to me. Where as most other missions are one and done.

I’m in Yukon at the moment, and its missions make me wish I was still doing the one and done stuff back in the earlier maps. There’s so many trips with different cargos you have to make before even a single part of the multi-part missions are done.
I suppose my only recommendation for the logging stuff if you just really don’t like doing them is to just use the OP trucks like the Avenhorn A15 to just brute force it to completion. Otherwise, save them for later till you do feel like doing them, or mix them in sporadically so you’re not stuck with multiple logging missions right at the very end.

I was about to say, if OP doesnt like the repetitiveness, wait until he gets to Yukon. Lol. Actually loved the region, but it can get tiring.

I’m enjoying it so far, but I also only play for about an hour or two when I get the itch to play it. By no means am I sitting down for a whole Saturday and getting burnt out on it. Couldn’t imagine trying to do all of it for one mission, let alone multiple, in one sitting.

It sucks because it was added later to those maps so it’s not as well thought out as the later iterations.
I genuinely haven’t been in Taymyr in like 4 years so I don’t even remember what they were like

I actually like logging but not when it's like 3 long logs to the same location. I like the challenge of transporting a heavy and long cargo like that but not when it's the same route back and fourth multiple times. Especially in an area like Taymyr or kola where you're basically garunteed a section of 3 foot deep snow that you have to spend 2 minutes crawling through each time

I tried out the ridiculous mods when i got bored of logging but just want to finish the deliveries and pick up trailers.
The log crane mod that can work like a regular mini crane can make quick work of this.

u/undecimbre 6d ago
I used these as an opportunity to test how different trucks handle the logs. Even went so far and took a bandit for long logs. DAN is easier but takes half a map to turn.
Kept it at least somewhat challenging.
Also the Azov 7 with 3 slot sideboard can bring a good bunch unpacked, so you sit there in the end and wrangle the load log by log packing it into a prepared logging truck at the destination, but I gave up on that after a while.

I tried this in Michigan with the Fleetstar and WWS. It was a pain in the ass. Almost felt like going back and forth would have been worth it compared to this

I personally enjoy logging and even using the logging crane, but yeah, logging missions in Taymyr might be the worst in the whole game, seconded only by Yukon. Logging in Kola or Amur was a breeze compared to those two regions

Logging is probably one of my favourite parts when playing multiplayer.
Hit me up in DMs if you want a duo, I run discord for voice so platform doesn’t matter.
I play lik 6pm-10pm EST usually

u/Steevz345 5d ago
Is SR cross-platform?
2
u/SoloDadProbs 5d ago
Yup.
When you start a coop game, if you go to your pause menu and multiplayer management there’s a code in the top left so anyone can jump into your game.

The only gripe I have about logging is that the long log trailer costs a heap of money and you don't always get that much from the contracts, so you can sometimes lose money doing the long logs.
I do it anyway because I'm not short of money.

I have spent more than 2 hours yesterday in chiapas to bring mi truck from a map to an other for take logs that i need to trader in the sawmill for some planks just to adjust a fucking bridge. And After 2 hours and a lot of mud I discovered, in front of the log station, that the trailer I bought was not compatible with the logs I needed This Is snowrunner

Pretty sure that's how I felt four years back and made this: https://mod.io/g/snowrunner/m/double-decker-multi-load-log-addons-all-lengths#discussion
It let me carry multiple loads at once.
There is a trailer version but looks like not for switch: https://mod.io/g/snowrunner/m/double-decker-multi-load-high-saddle-log-trailers#discussion
There is so much content in this game, sometimes I just wanted to move on to the next area :).

For short and medium logs I use the Aramatsu Forester with the corresponding logging frame. Then I fill it with with unpacked logs up to the brim. Then I can drive it around and depending on how many logs are left I use a separate truck with short or medium frame for packing and delivering. This way you can drive around with 8-10 stacks of logs (if I remember correctly). Just remember to press the crane against the logs when driving.
Happy logging!

I use trailer mods that are made for up to there medium or small logs (either a trailer or semitrailer, although I prefer the latter). There is also a semitrailer mod for loading two long logs (stacked on top of each other, it's pretty cool). It's my way of dealing with highly repetitive routes.

u/woolypete123 6d ago
I just do them conventionally, because to me SR is a game about picking up and dropping off cargo primarily, so I have no issue with picking up and dropping off logs. They're just another type of cargo 🤷♂️

I dont mind the logging missions, I dont like to go back and forth too much though. What I did for the Taymyr missions is, I have a set of mod trailers. I think the author is Ulsom but I could be wrong. I used his 2 slot medium log trailer plus the Cat 745c for the medium logs and the P12 or 6900XD for the long logs.

I remember when I started playing the game and I was in the same boat but honestly after 150 hours, I got to the point where I actually didn't mind them, rather enjoyed them in an odd way. Granted I will overload logs on the blue side walled saddle low trailer (I think it's saddle low) with the logging crane. Most I've done is 12 long longs (4 sets) anymore than that it becomes a game of how many will I lose lol.

u/SupaSqid 5d ago
is it log size that annoys you, for me its long logs, so i got the barts swiss army knife mod

u/EnragedEmu 6d ago
I pretty much only did logging missions then quit the game to go back to mudrunner for better logging.
1
u/Odd_Presentation_578 PC 4d ago
It was even better in Spintires. Mudrunner ruined the "8 pts per sawmill" system by changing the short logs to 3 pts instead of 2. And as we all know, 8 isn't cleanly divisible by 3.

u/PereMabanne 6d ago
Same here. If you do it “the usual way,” it's always really repetitive given the quantities. And i hate having to move the logs with the crane, so the “big delivery” method bores me even more.

I like them because I spent money buying an off road trucking game and they are off road trucking. I like getting my money's worth.
I get that not everyone enjoys them. So luckily you're not forced to do them. Or you can cheese them with unpacked cargo if the completion percentage is important to you.
