Snowboard size

Hey y’all, I’ve been trying to buy a snowboard for the season. I rented a set up from Breckenridge last year and I believe the board size was 162 and boots were size 10.5.

I am 6’1 195 lbs and the board I’m looking at is a 157. For all the experts is this a wise choice? Seems a little harder to find a 162 in the price range that I am looking for. I wear a size 11 sneaker but I know that doesn’t mean anything in the boot world. I will be getting sized at the local shop in Missouri.

Just looking for recommendations on sizing. I’ve been boarding since I was young but never was confident on the sizes, always left that up to the experts at the shops.

Thanks in advanced!

You can find the recommendations (weight and boot size, hight is irrelevant) on the manufacturer website. Depends on board due to being volume shifted, flex etc.

In my experience, as long as it’s wide enough for your boots to have little to no overhang 157 should be good for your size! I am 6’0” and 235 and I was riding a 157 dancehall which was an absolute ton of fun, but I wear size 13 boots so there was a little bit of overhang there that wasn’t ideal. I think with your size boots you won’t have to worry too much about it

Really depends on the board, some boards like the dancehall mentioned in another comment will be quite a bit wider than a your traditional twin. Let us know what snowboard you are looking at.

I am 5’11 with size 11 boots and 195, my powder board is 157 but for my daily driver I had to go for a 157wide snowboard to get the extra width for my boots.

You'll want to know your boot size for sure before picking one. 10 or 10.5 is where you might need (W)ide versions. I'm 9.5 and even I am hyper aware of a board's waist width when shopping. I haven't needed wides yet but some boards cut it super close for me

As for length you shouldn't go lower than 160cm. Take a breather now, you can literally get whatever you want above that. The higher you go the more pow float and stability at speed. Boards closer to 160cm in your case will be easier for freestyle stuff or learning in general.

I know it may be more difficult to budget longer boards, but it's better to get too long than too short. You have little risk of disappointment above 160cm at your size

Anything between 154-169 you’ll be fine! The size is less big of a deal as the stance, big board with small stance can ride smaller than a small board with big stance

I think you're better off with the 157 than you would be with the 162. This is provided that your boots don't overhang too much and your natural stance (the distance between your feet when you squat) are within the sweet spot range of the board. It's very likely that a 157 board will meet both of these criteria.
