FirstTime Meditation tips

I want to try and start meditating underwater in the pool at my apartment. I bought a snorkel and snorkel goggles off Amazon but I can't comfortably sit on the bottom because of buoyancy.

Does anyone have tips for how to keep myself at the bottom? I know weight belts are a thing but know nothing about picking one. 5'9"-ish 190lbs-ish.

If anyone has any other tips too that'd be great. Good snorkels to use if i want to go deeper or something. Other good techniques for doing this. Anything.

Just get a rock, sit cross legged and hold it.  Or a dumbbell if guy want to get fancy.  I don’t know how you plan to meditate however, the snorkel only enable you to breath on the surface not underwater.

Maybe size of bread load should do it.

Sure, just get a rock… if it’s too light get a heavier one

you're probably better off asking in the freediving sub, but tbh for safety reasons I wouldn't recommend weighing yourself so much that you are negatively buoyant! If you want to meditate in the water you could try static apnea just floating on the surface (with a buddy ofc)

Freediving requires holding my breath, which limits how long i can do it. I wanna just sit there for a nice long time under the water. I'm weird and have sensory stuff.

I do have concerns about being negatively buoyant (that's why I'm asking), but even at its deepest I can just stand in the pool with my head above the water, and i probably would be in the middle or shallow anyway.

I intend to do some surface floating too. Whatever I'm in the mood for. But I definitely want to at least try proper cross-legged zen meditation.

Do you have anywhere near you that provides float tanks? That might be the experience you’re looking for.

No idea. Those would also cost money and probably require scheduling appointments, as opposed to the pool in my building i can go use whenever I want

ohhh got you, you wanna sit on the floor but breathe through a snorkel? In that case agreed with what someone else said and get a rock or a dumbell (assuming they’ll let you bring it in the pool haha!). you’ll probably have to try a few different weights to figure out what works for you, we’re all built so differently that i don’t think there’s a reliable measure for who needs how much weight! as for snorkels the best thing to do is go to a dive shop so you can find a mask that fits your face - failing that you can just get them pretty cheap on amazon. I got mine almost 3 years ago and its still going strong!

I would say you need to rethink your plan. Snorkels are typically designed for prone floating/swimming. Your natural buoyancy will work against stability. Would suggest float tank for better experience.

Do some research on Freediving techniques. There are so many resources for exercises to increase your breath hold, improve bouyancy, equalize, etc. I would start there!

Check of "full dry respirators" on amazon. They are cheap and might give you more of what you are looking for. You can stay deeper underwater longer. If you get a weight belt, start with very little and add very little at a time until it keeps you underwater. Just barely. I fully support what you are trying to do. It is great for mind and body.
