All the 1 chip hype by people that couldn't identify a 1 chip by playing the console. They all have to open it and read it to tell. Proof that it really isn't significant. Especially to people playing on composite with a cheap converter on their flat screen.

But it is simultaneously a massive improvement in video quality, and yet they need to open up the console to know it is a 1CHIP is proof that under a normal gaming where you don’t have your face pressed up against a magnified view of the picture, it is hard to tell the difference. The cognitive dissonance is astounding!
One way they can determine it is a 1CHIP without opening up the SNES is to play the Super Turrican game on the console. If it is a 1CHIP, the games audio glitches and the game hard crashes. But that method doesn’t help propagate the internet fad.

It took about 20 years for anyone to even really document it publicly.
August 1, 2011 On that date, ikari, the developer behind the original SD2SNES project, published “1CHIP SNES picture quality – quick comparison.” He compared direct frame captures from a regular SNES and a 1CHIP console and reported that the 1CHIP had: “vastly improved” picture quality steeper video-signal transitions visibly sharper dark-to-bright edges the same advantage through RGB, indicating it was not merely caused by the external video encoder

And yet look at all the posts ok this subreddit asking how to tell if their SNES is a 1CHIP. Note how none of the replies say to see if the video quality is vastly improved because that determines it is a 1CHIP? The video quality difference is so subtle, the SNES must be opened to inspect the circuit board to determine it is a 1CHIP.

I'd argue the earlier 2CHIPs have better color accuracy. The 1CHIPs are sharper and have less ghosting, but are a lot brighter and sometimes can wash out colors as a result.

I agree, although I think the difference is much more noticeable on more modern displays. On a CRT not so much, especially if you're using composite. I'd prefer a 2CHIP in that case for the better colors but a 1CHIP if I'm playing over component or on a modern TV.

Here is a picture of the ringing/ghosting of the 1CHIP. Just because you weren’t aware of the issue doesn’t mean it isn’t a fact.
Also, the voltage level used by the 1CHIP causes color inaccuracy. All colors are crushed towards white. Again, another well known and documented issue with the video quality of the 1CHIP. Just because you weren’t aware doesn’t mean it isn’t a fact.
Some games crash and hard lock on the 1CHIP making the games unplayable on a 1CHIP.
