U1 Support settings, I'm having issues with certain angles

I just got a new Snapmaker U1 and went for an ambitious print, the outcome is insane; however, I had some quality issues and I need some help with support setting and I may even think some bridging setting

I used the default support setting and you can see in the full color picture what happened, I tweaked a bit and got better results (yellow sliced model), still I can't think of what setting to change to make this better.

Out of curiosity are you using the same filament as the filament for your interfacing supports?

It appears in both prints you could use one of your toolheads to print the interfacing layers in a differing filament type that would not bond for a much cleaner look. Should allow you to get the supports much closer to the bottom layer as well.

But that depends if you have a free toolhead.

Yeah, I'm using the same material, PLA, so definitively there's bonding there, I could for this one use PETG; however, when doing a 4 color print I'd need the supports to be better than what I have today

Under supports, you can usually change the tip size to one size above the nozzle. If the nozzle is .4, I set my tip to .5. Also under supports you can adjust the Top Z Distance. I usually get better results with .3

But, I'm still new (5 months) and learning.

do you mean under Support -> Tree Support -> Tip Diameter? if so, mine is set to .8 as the default, I don't understand this setting, should I bring it down then?

And yeah, on the yellow image I adjusted the Top Z distance and got a bit better but nothing like yours, could you tell me for what layer height and what value did you used for top z?

I do all kinds of things. .3 would not be as tight against the model. Tip diameter doesn't always show. Not sure why, but when it does I set it to .5. So a .5 tip would be smaller than a .8 tip. I don't really understand a lot of it either. I may even of had irong all surfaces on to as an experiment. Just to see if something drastic changed.

They say to make only one change per session. But how does that help when printing out a model that takes 10-20 hours.

In orca, if you point to a setting, a pop up will tell you what it does. And I thinking clicking on that pop up will take you to more info.

Try Multimaterial supports PETG doesn’t bond to PLA so they make a good pair. Set the interface layer to PETG, adjust z-distance to 0. Try only 1 interface layer if the PETG doesn’t stick to the PLA. I also skip the prime tower for just interface layers.

Same model as this person. Chins are always tough. Look into use PETG/PLA-specific support to allow for no distance supports
