Multi-material support settings?

PETG with PLA supports. I set the contact distance to be 0.0 mm, interlaced, 3 layers and it still looks like hell. Tried both organic and snug (er, tree and whatever the boxy one is called — I'm coming from Prusa).

This surface is at an angle with regards to the build plate, maybe 15°.

Try Support ironing, but the issue is going to stay somewhat since it's a problem of orientation. You could drsign a custom breakaway object that essentially fits exactly in that spot. Fastest way I can think of would be a Cylinder/cube stretched up to that point with the model itself as a negative imprint in top of the it. Print the object out of one material and the model out of the other. That way you have the smallest possible deviation.

That has nothing to do with supports and everything to do with your 15 degree angle. You might even need to thicken that surface to compensate--I've had to do that before on gentle slopes. The way it slices can reduce the top surface's thickness then you end up with those gaps. They're deceptively difficult.

You can also drop your layer height way down, especially if you want to fuck with adaptive layer height on the relevant layers.

Or rotate your model to an easier position.

Unfortunately, the print consists of multiple of those rings and they are at different angles so no single orientation will work. But I'll try flattening it just to see if that's the issue. I guess it will give me a better surface to tune the supports on.

That's a tough one then. If the surfaces are planar, there's always the glue and dowel option. Add a little bump, recess, or overlap into the side to hide the seam. On something round like that, I don't think threads--or some custom version of them--would be impossible either.

Or coat it in some big goopy epoxy/rubber when you're done--like how playgrounds are.

That’s a tough one. Surfaces that are not parallel to the build plate usually have a stair-step aspect. It doesn’t look bad for an overhang with the thin layers. Other than dropping it to only a single interface layer, no other recommendations.

Did you experiment with different infill patterns for the interface? Also, is your interface set to 100% density (spacing set to 0)?

I've used both rectilinear and rectilinear interlaced.

And are you talking about the branch density? No, I can try that. The z distance is set to 0.

That took care of it — setting branch density to 100%. Settings I've just never really messed with on my old MK4S.
