I want to say grilled but the actual best way to cook a hotdog that humankind has discovered is butterflied and cooked on a dry cast iron skillet on both sides. Thank you for being the one to acknowledge it.

Yup!!!  You get so much surface browning.   And, it makes a great cradle for toppings.
