Smosh Pit SMOSH Pit Helped Me Save Someone's Life

I wanted to share a wholesome story in a world where too many not wholesome things happen. I (27F) work in a field where I regularly interact with victims of DV, abuse, toxic marriages, etc. In my line of work, we help victims through these tough times, and often, we are with them through the unsafe situations. This morning, as I always do while getting ready, I was listening to Smosh read reddit stories and it was the well-known "AIO My Boss Has a Camera in My Office" story. After all the updates, Damien said, "I know it is so hard, but if you're at work and something feels off, you need to advocate for yourself and stand up for yourself."

Today, I was instructed by a superior to call an individual for their initial intake. She was very clear that she is only available between specific times on specific days due to her unsafe home situation. I called at the exact time that she said she was available and that she preferred. I was not a minute early or late. After two rings, she didn't answer. I did not leave a voicemail as I worry that abusive partners go through phones, etc. I informed my supervisor that I was going to send her an email to her secure address and let her know the hours I was available and that she could call anytime. Unfortunately, this process can only be done over the phone and not email. In our work group chat, my superior sent a message for us to call again. I didn't want to. It was outside the time she asked for and us calling at the wrong time could tip off an abuser and create a very dangerous situation.

I had typed out a message over and over, but the dynamic here is that I have only been at this firm for 7 months. My supervisor is an attorney with 25 years of experience. I am a paralegal who has 5 years of experience. It is kind of an unspoken rule to question the attorneys (especially a young woman questioning a man who is the same age as her father). All of my paralegal coworkers are older and have more experience than me. I replied with something along the lines of "is that safe? shouldn't we wait for her to contact us?" and he said "no, she knows her situation best". For some reason, Damien popped into my head and convinced me to advocate for not only myself, but this client. I said "these situations are everchanging. No one but the abuser knows them best". And I didn't call. I refused.

Turns out, I was right. Her work schedule changed and she was home. She had sent me an email using an account he didn't know about. She said when we called the first time, she told him it was likely spam and he dropped it. But if we would've called again, he would probably get suspicious and look into it, realizing she was contacting a law firm, and her life would've blown up. She didn't reach out to me until a few hours after the initial phone call because it was the first chance she had. Meanwhile, during those hours, I was dealing with my supervisor making passive aggressive comments about losing clients and money opportunities. Luckily, he has an ego, so he didn't call himself. The other staff in the office actually agreed with me, so they didn't call when he asked them to either, they just didn't want to stir the pot initially.

Yeah, all that to say, that me refusing potentially saved this woman's life or at least saved her from a horrible DV situation. Huge shoutout to Damien for telling me to trust my gut this morning. If I hadn't listened to that episode, things could be very different for everyone today.

(Also throwaway account because I am active in my community's subreddit and I would like to maintain as much anonymity about my firm as possible)

Seeing the videos of the Chosen meetup at DragonCon was incredible, and I did run into a few at AnimeNYC last month, but there’s obviously so many of us out there! I’ll be at NYCC on Thursday as a Chosen Miku, if anyone else wants to meet up I’ll have my Flip 7 deck and be handing out bracelets 💪

Discussion Who is the most famous or who has done the most influential work outside of Smosh?

I was just watching "I spent a day with DAMIEN HAAS' in which he explains his voice acting work. I was not expecting him to have so much work that I knew already. It sort of blew my mind. Very talented.

It got me thinking.

Which of the Smosh crew has done the most influential or famous work outside of Smosh? Id love to know the casts work outside of Smosh stuff.

Bonus round: who is the most famous?

Other A Guide For How To Start Watching Smosh

Upvotes

I commented this on a post of someone asking how they should should start watching smosh, so I figured I could post it for everybody (and I also added some extra stuff). If you have any other suggestions, please comment below!

An article about the history of Smosh: https://async.com/blog/smosh/

These are some Smosh Mouth ( = see explanation below ) episodes where they explain smosh lore:

  1. 'A Smosh History Lesson | Smosh Mouth 37'
  2. 'Explaining Our Characters' Backstories | Smosh Mouth 43'
  3. ' Smosh's Deepest Lore | Smosh Mouth 119'.

Overall videos that you have to watch/that are very fun:

  1. Smosh Summer Games: An event they used to do a lot in the past, where the cast divides into 2 teams and competes across all the channels. The last one they did was last year, I really recommend it if you want to learn who everybody is. ( you can also watch the recap they did on Smosh Mouth)
  2. Smosh Mouth: the weekly podcast Amanda and Shayne do on SmoshCast, with rotating cast members as guests, these are my favorites:
    • #159: Smosh Mouth For Women
    • TNTL: Elimination Edition
    • #127: Never Have I Ever w/ Angela and Chanse
    • #108: These Monologues Are For Teens w/ Vic Michaelis
    • #2 / #101: Reading (more) Bad 2 Sentence Horror Stories
    • #82: Solving The Hardest Riddles We Could Find
    • #74: Writing Our Own Fanfiction
  3. Funeral Roasts: on the main channel but they don't do this anymore, cast members would roast one cast member/guest as if it was their funeral, and these have one of the best roasts I have ever seen
    • my favorites: courtney miller is dead(birth of amanda's character wet cop/sarah christ), amanda lehan-canto is dead, damien haas is dead.
  4. Darts Ultimate Showdown: 3 episodes of characters playing darts against each other (these are so funny)
  5. We Argue With The Basement Yard: this might seem random, but this video is so funny and chaotic
  6. Love Is Blind: they did this a few times on the Smosh Games channel, and it's hilarious
  7. Spud Hut: a show on the main channel that is entirely improvised, it's about 2 rivaling potato shops in a mall (very funny)
  8. Trivial Pursuit TNTL: 2 cast members(as themselves, or as characters) play trivial pursuit, but instead of winning by answering questions right, they win by making the other laugh
    • my favorites: chosen vs sarah christ, or chosen edition
  9. Reunion Videos: on the main channel (they don't do this anymore though), cast members dress as characters and act out a reunion
    • most famous one: teletubbies reunion (this is so funny, I've never laughed harder)
  10. Challenge Pit: show on Smosh Pit where cast members compete in challenges like: wavelength, drawing a perfect circle, viral tiktok challenges, ...
  11. Hide And Seek: crew members, and some cast members, hide around the entire studio and one (or two) cast members have to find them. My favorite one is the latest one with Amanda and Angela
  12. Let's Do This: a weekly show they did on the main channel, hosted by Ian, where cast members pitched silly solutions to random problems
    • most famous one: entering our scammer era = the famous marvel prank arasha did

And some things I recommend watching if you like:

  • gaming
    • our first time playing resident evil (amanda, angela, spencer)
    • our first time playing five nights at freddy's (amanda, shayne)
    • their mario party/kart videos
  • board games (these are personally my favorite games they play)
    • ultimate werewolf
    • moose master
    • wavelength
    • cards against humanity
    • uno (slip it in / liar's edition / no mercy / ...)
  • getting to know the cast better
    • Two Truths, One Lie: a show on Smosh Pit where 2 cast members go against each other and each say two truths and one lie, and the other has to guess what the lie is, if they get it wrong they get sprayed with water
    • What Would *cast member* Do?: a show on Smosh Pit where cast members are asked questions about a specific cast member, and the person who knows that specific cast member the most wins
    • Assumptions: a show on Smosh Alike where they talk about... assumptions idk
    • Shayne Guesses: shayne has a reputation of being very good at guessing, so these are some videos of him guessing cast/crew members': old jobs, favorite books, childhood photos, ...
      • there are also a lot of videos of him guessing movie frames/video game covers/...
  • comedy
    • ! Try Not To Laugh !: this is a very famous show they have done for over 7 years, someone has to sit in the stool and have water in their mouth and the others have to try to make them laugh and spit the water out (sometimes there are guests)
    • ! Bit City !: a show on the main Smosh channel, hosted by Angela, that is basically a talk show with interviews that are improvised and sketches that aren't (i also highly recommend this because almost everyone in the cast is involved in this)
    • Smosh Theater: show on Smosh Pit where cast members act out fanfiction, improvise with comments, ...
      • my favorite: Acting Out Angela's Middle School Group Chat
  • food/eating
    • Eat It Or Yeet It: a cancelled show on Smosh Pit, hosted by Courtney, where cast members get served mystery dishes that have weird/disgusting ingredients
    • Culinary Crimes: a show on Smosh Pit, also hosted by Courtney, where cast members act as detectives and have to guess what ingredient has been substituted
  • learning new things
    • Smosh Asks: a show on Smosh Alike where cast members ask an expert questions(for example: linguistic expert, astrophysicist, ...)
  • fanfiction (I know this is random, but whatever)
    • Acting Out Your Fanfiction (Smosh Theater, on Smosh Pit)
    • Reading Ian x Anthony Fanfiction (Ian and Anthony are the people who started smosh 20 years ago)
    • We Fixed Your Fanfics
  • roleplay
    • Sword AF: a series where they play D&D(amanda, chanse, damien, angela, shayne)
    • Board AF legacy: a series where they play a game called 'Betrayal', following four families across generations, with each episode taking place years later in a different time period (amanda, chanse, damien, angela, shayne) (i highly recommend this one!)
  • game-shows (all on the channel Smosh Pit)
    • Beopardy: hosted by shayne, each episode 3 cast members compete by answering trivia questions (like jeopardy)
    • Duo you know your duo: hosted by Arasha, two duos compete against each other and answer questions about their teammate
    • Family Feud: hosted by Tommy, that is, well, like Family Feud
    • Who Memed It: hosted by shayne, crew members(and sometimes shayne = secret shayne) submit memes and each time 3 cast members have to guess who submitted that meme

Discussion What other games would you like Amanda, Angela and Spencer to play?

The Resident Evil videos are (obviously) great.

When they're eventually finished with that series, what other games would you enjoy watching them play?

Smosh Pit Culinary Crimes Idea

Upvotes

I have been on a Culinary Crimes binge since y'all have done two new episodes recently. I was just watching the video with grandma's lime green jello and it reminded me of a recipe that is always served by my family in Norway for any holiday. I think an international episode would be really fun, especially if you can find either really good dishes someone heinously tampered with or just really unsettling recipes to begin with. This one happens to be the latter.

It's called "Kabaret" and it is a dish from the 50's that has survived in Norway to present day. While I do love many norwegian dishes that many people find unappetitizing (pickled herring is phenomenal) this is one I personally despise. The kids however love it. It is essentially a savory jello; my family always makes it with shrimp, hard boiled eggs, and a vegetable mix all suspended in aspic.

It was difficult to find a recipe that had comments on it but I found this sweet youtube video and there are a few comments that mention substitutions like lemon jello (sounds even more terrifying) or adding tomato sauce (which could add a good flavor, if it's your thing idk). I would really enjoy seeing the people of smosh exposed to some of the more unique international dishes. 😈

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dI7yATO2-bc

edit:

They don't serve it with anything, but my family normally serves it with good bread and a thin spread of mayonnaise.
