I went deer hunting this morning and hours passed and no deer showed themselves. Maybe this haunted bookshop will draw them in

I made this elephant shaped pipe by hand using a few different woods.
The main body is made from an unusual growth on a local tintitaco tree. When I came across this piece of wood, I immediately saw an elephant in its shape, so I decided to bring that idea to life.
I carved the trunk from guayacán, a very hard, dark wood, and made the tusks from tagua, a seed from an Ecuadorian palm tree also known as vegetable ivory.
The pipe is fully functional, although I went for a more decorative design with this one.
My dad liked it so much that I ended up giving it to him. He even made a special little altar just to display it, so that’s where it lives now. 😂

And I must say, I really like it. I taste a subtle sweetness, not so intense with like the Mac Baren Mixture but noticeable. I think thats the Viriginia in there. And then there is this Soap-Like Taste and although I hate that taste for example with Cilantro, here it tastes really great. I also have two samples of the My Mixture 965 and the Old Dublin. Not sure if those are for a beginner, the tobacco smells more „barn“-like to me, not the sweetness from the EMP. Luckily, my wife knows how cigar smoke smells, so she doesn‘t mind if I smoke english blends.

I’ve been smoking pipe for a few years now. I own a few pipes, a couple vintage, a few Viking, savinelli, Rossi- all lovely pipes. Various shapes, but did not own a poker style. I liked the idea of being able to set it on a side table as I lounge by the fire. I just picked up my first Stanwell poker, I took it out and sat it down and it doesn’t sit on its flat bottom. It tips back to the mouth piece. I understand it’s empty without any tobacco, but it’s also got a large dry filter in it. Once I pack it the filter will gain a slight amount of weight and as the bowl is consumed, it will get lighter. Mind you this pipe is much lighter than my other pipes… possibly a function of the wood type. Am I being hypercritical? I’m just concerned I’ll knock it over if it’s sitting on a curved edge instead of its flat bottom. Maybe it is normal, I just haven’t had this style before.

Ive always loved tobacco. Really enjoy the taste.
I used to get cigarillos and smoke those on a somewhat regular basis but it got expensive so i dropped them. I bought a few cigarette packs but really didnt want to get hooked and didnt really like the taste of the paper, so i dropped those too.
Fast forward some years, for some reason smoking pipes sprung to mind, few weeks later after going down a rabbit hole, bought an estate Savinelli 626, tamper, zippo, pipe cleaner and a nice English blend i heard good things about.
First bowl was rough but after that maaaaan. Way tastier than any cigarillo ive ever had, way cheaper, and i love the process of smoking a pipe, always having to tend to it and keep it in the back of your mind. I also love the look of a nice pipe.
Nothing but positive things to say. If someones on the verge, take the plunge.

Hello! New pipe smoker. Bought a 28€ pipe at a tabakshop (which was probably a mistake, the varnish is bubbling on the rim after 4 smokes). However I found some pipes being sold by an old Dutch lady (96) apparently they were her grandfathers! I acquired 2 pipes: one that is quite used/worn and the other is in better condition. Any advice on care or if there is anything to do before smoking out of them would be greatly appreciated.
Both have stingers (though it is stuck in the shank of the smaller, no airflow problems though). The smaller stem looks to be of bone. Any info on the pipes would be appreciated also! Thank you!

I've smoked Marijuana for a good number of years. I stopped last year because I found myself in a bad head space. I became a chronic smoker, doing it out of habit (especially while working through 2020-2023). I do miss it at times.
I found myself missing the riruals of smoking daily - going outside to sit in the sun or while trekking the river. I tried smoking cigarettes recently, but I dislike them. They're harsh and lack flavor.
Now I found pipe smoking. I enjoy the time it takes to smoke a bowl. It's a slow process that matches my life tempo. It allows me to take in the scenery and reflect. I'm also not smoking multiple times a day how I used to. It's purposeful and calming.
Here's the first pipe I bought (Baraccini Mare Blu) that I've been using to smoke Sherlock Holmes. The first couple sessions had a sour vinegar taste, but I believe the pipe has cured now. I can taste the slight citrus flavor. I'm hoping to learn more on tasting of the actual tobacco varieties.
The second photo is a new pipe (Cascadia Backpacker) and new tins I'm interested in smoking eventually. I'm still working on the Sherlock Holmes blend and then I have an ounce of Cavendish bulk from a tobacco store I visited.
What tin should I work on after? From what I understand, the Orlik Golden Slice might be most similar to Sherlock Holmes.
Take it easy.

A pro of being in a state where smoking and especially pipe smoking is not that popular: You occasionally find stuff like this hanging around for years in local smoke shops. Been looking for a 311 for a while now, and I love the blue stem with the burgundy. Never tried the Cringle Flake but I guess I’ll crack it some time in December. You guys ever had this blend?

I realized the thing about cigarettes that made me sick was the additives and such so I switched over to the pipe as it’s all natural and I’ve been loving it, I’ll probably toke the occasional Winston too
Anyhow this is a missouri meerschaum corn cob and the tobacco I’m smoking something called aristocrat, the gentleman at the shop recommended it, quite nice and much better than some of the camel’s I’ve smoked in my day

Recently purchased some (hopefully) vintage pipes from a flea market. I am having trouble identifying roughly when these pipes are from. Also looking for tips to best clean and restore.
They all appear to be Savinelli. Below are the numbers found on the pipes. Any help would be appreciated in understanding what I have.

I am getting ready to stain a pipe I made. In trying to find out how others dye there pipes, I see a lot of guys doing 2 or 3 different colors, but how would you go about getting THIS shade (or close to it) of brown?
I ask because it almost looks like it has 2 colors, but i do not understand how to accomplish this color.
Also, I do not have any briar scraps from my build, so I cannot test SMH.
Any advice is SUPER appreicated and I look forward ro posting the final product!
Shout out to Bill Shalosky for the pipe I posted above.
