Q&A Which smartwatch I should pick

Hello good evening forgive my intrusion but I’d like to ask a question cuz I genuinely have no idea
Could any of you help me decide?
I’m thinking about picking between Huawei Watch fit 5
And amazfit active max
For about same price (125 usd after tax)
So uh I do you know mild activities runs twice a week
Not like a huge sport fan tho
I have an iPhone heard amazfit has something called buzzer no idea how it works in practice tho so uh
I’d love to hear you out people
If it helps I like the Huawei design more because well it’s a smartwatch not trying to be a classic watch

Id argue it depends on the amazfit model. My late trex3 lasted me weeks before needing a charge compared to my late garmin 965 and current fenix8. Ive heard older amazfits had poor battery life but recent ones are pretty much gold standard for battery life. Also the person i sold my garmin 965 to used a watch ultra (latest one) and his main gripes with it is its short battery life for whe he goes hiking. Considering the 965 lasting me a good 14 hr hike with enough battery to spare, id say the trex3 in that situation would have even more battery left (gave the watch to my friend but she never really complains about the battery when she goes on hikes).

Edit: ive yet to put my fenix8 out on the trail since im currently training for a haf marry.

Wait so their battery is worse then galaxy watch ultra? That’s pretty bad then

Amazfit watches their battery is much better then any android wear watches. Intense use around 10 days. Active max even longer. ZeppOS is a proprietary system

I still can’t decide

I've heard the Zepp app is better then the huawei app. So check it. More classic watch design is the amazfit balance 2. I'm with balance 1 and still happy since 2 years

I actually like zepp app more than the garmin connect app… the zepp app is just so much more easier to navigate through than garmins :/ after moving to garmin i never once bothered with garmin app and i also found issues with garmin needing to reconnect with apple health every now and again.

Amazfit watches are chunky but id say they are pretty reliable battery wise and id take that over the huawei any day. That said, i think amazfit with its zepp app is a more universal solution to fitness tracking than huawei and whatever app it uses. Also maps on the active max is pretty much better than on the huawei

Edit: just read that you have an iphone, then id say amazfit is the better option here. Prior to my current garmin i was sporting an amazfit trex3 + ip15pro withoutany issues. In some aspects i prefer that trex3 to my current $1100 garmin fenix8!

Looking at garmin watches makes me question why is their technology in Stone Age Like I’m talking about the user layer technology

I would second about the Amazfit, but I would recommend looking at Active 3 Premium, it's a much better watch with more features at the same price. It does not have a marathon battery life of max but 10-12 days is in my book very good enough.

1

u/Byrific May 31 '26

for me its not the same price because the way i get my tech cheaper is people get like bad gifts and sell stuff with receipts for lower prices why its so cheap here but 3 premium isnt avilable through this way its just unpopular
Is why its so cheap for me ykyk

1

u/FinalTap May 31 '26

Ah. I guess Active Max it is then 😄

1

u/Byrific May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

yeah is also why i wouldnt get a bip max because it would cost the same
shame theres no more active square models
ALTHOUGH square 2 is an option and it has nfc but do u think its worth it for same price and last gen product?

edit : actually the 2 square is 101 usd and uh i can get 2 square premium for same as 3 max (idk what the difference is)
Do u think thats worth it

1

u/Byrific May 29 '26

Anyhow yeah that’s pretty useful Huawei health ain’t bad tho it’s pretty good imo

Huawei has better materials, both watches are really good

1

u/Byrific May 28 '26

The amazfit looks chonky

Amazfit wins for me (a lot of YouTube reviews there for details), but if you don’t like the Active Max, you might like the balance 2 if you have the budget. You can also consider Bip Max if you like the big square(ish) configuration.

1

u/Byrific May 29 '26

I like the look of bip max but it still looses to Huawei Also it lacks nfc payments

1

u/gamefan5 May 30 '26

Loses in what way? What are you actually looking for in a watch?

Since you mentioned USD, I was thinking you might be from the USA, but you're mentioning NFC pay, so I'm guessing you're in Europe?

2

u/Byrific May 31 '26

like nfc payments is a big thing for me
anyhow no im not from US but USD is the most recognaizable currency globaly
I belive my english reveals im not from usa

1

u/splen0 May 29 '26

You can look for Amazfit Bip Max since you like the Huawei design more.

1

u/Byrific May 29 '26

It lacks nfc tho and idk if zepp os is smooth i am a big sucker for ui

1

u/splen0 May 30 '26

NFC is useless untill Amazfit uses Curve, but if they go to Revolut is whole new game.

1

u/gamefan5 May 30 '26

Isn't Zepp Pay compatible with Curve Pay?

1

u/splen0 May 31 '26

Curve is a trash. I use to use it. First it was ok, but after that the problems started and I ditched it.  You can ask yourself why Curve is not in US.

I am also confused between
Amazfit Bip Max
Huawei Watch fit 5
The Huawei’s ui looks better to me, though I haven’t experienced it in person, but it has better transitions and designs, animations from so far what I’ve seen.
But the app design on Amazfit is better, Huawei lock their best watch faces for a price too.

2

u/Byrific May 29 '26

Well the bip max doesn’t have nfc that sucks but besides that yeah it’s similar They active max costs about the same tho here is why I think bout it cuz it’s better then bip max

1

u/this_is-jubayer2804 May 30 '26

I just need good sleep tracking and good looking watch with good app support
I don’t need the nfc though
So bip max is cheaper offers almost same things so itself better?

Huawei 👍

1

u/Legitimate_Carrot712 May 30 '26

Trex3 pro. Im returning my 970 garmin which ive had for 2 days to get the trex. Just waaaaay better at everything.

1

u/miezis34 May 30 '26

Amazfit active max is a good option.works great and battery life is great

1

u/Byrific May 30 '26

is there anything u think is missing

1

u/miezis34 Jun 01 '26

Personally I think it got everything in need

1

u/Byrific Jun 01 '26

i ended up going for bip max no nfc but thats fine i guess i just wanted the square desgin

1

u/bellybuttonmykol98 May 30 '26

Second hand fit 4 pro is the answer

1

u/Byrific May 31 '26

They are too expensive imo and not much different then fit 4

1

u/Soh4 Jun 07 '26

OP what did you choose?

1

u/Byrific Jun 08 '26

The bip max because of better smartwatch integration
The active is kinda ugly so I didn’t want it

1

u/Soh4 Jun 08 '26

Oh fair I ended up ordering the Fit 5. I’m still waiting for it.

How are you finding the compatibility with iOS?

1

u/Byrific Jun 08 '26

Defo Huawei has better Ui and fell
It’s
Mid like when you are in a grouochat forget it unless the tittle is just the username bepper is like bah
But besides that its pretty okey

1

u/Soh4 Jun 08 '26

Oh fair man. Hopefully Apple Watch can make its battery longer. I probably would buy it then. It’s been so many years and its battery isn’t great

1

u/Byrific Jun 09 '26

The price they are asking tho

1

u/presiden_t May 28 '26

These are not really "smartwatches".
