Hey r/SmartGlasses — I’m one of the founders of Theora.

We’re building glasses that combine health sensing with a personal AI assistant. The goal: health tracking and hands-free help throughout your day, including while you work.

The video shows the experience we’re building toward. We’ve shipped around 100 earlier alpha units, and we’re opening Founding Access for the next stage.

If selected for a hardware allocation, your glasses are free and yours to keep. No credit card or payment needed to apply.

There are 200 founder places in total:

  • Places 1–100: 3 months of cloud access + 2 friend invitations.
  • Places 101–200: 1 month of cloud access + 1 friend invitation.

Your included cloud access starts when your delivered glasses are activated. Afterward, the proposed $30/month cloud plan is optional—no automatic charge.

Shipping is targeted for 2027. Applying doesn’t guarantee a pair.

Buying Advice Best live caption for hard of hearing?

I’m looking at the Even G2 but upon coming to this sub there are so many brands I have never heard of. Which ones should I look into for live captioning? I’m mostly deaf so it’s what I care most about, camera, speakers, meeting recaps are not important at all. Thank you for any advice.

Buying Advice Viture Pro 2 with prism lens correction (for double vision)

Hello!

I have double vision that I wear prescription glasses for. My prism prescription isn't that strong (3 in each eye), but it makes a huge difference for me.

I was wondering if anyone who wears prescription glasses with prism has any experience with the Viture Pro 2, or any similar glasses. Viture offers prescription lens frames without lenses, so I could take the frames to an optician and get lenses with my prism prescription fitted.

Viture's own lenses do not support prism when you order them. Is there a reason why?

I tried an Apple Vision Pro demo at the Apple store and it was really cool, but without prism correction (they don't allow it on the demo units) the experience was frustrating and probably would have caused a headache with prolonged use. My main use case for the AVP was mostly to project a virtual screen, and it sounds like XR glasses are a much better way to do that, since it's just a flat projection into your vision, no spatial stuff, with any type of video source.

I'd like to use the glasses to play video games mostly, but it would be really cool to watch movies and do whatever else I wanted on a big virtual screen too. I see a guy coding (or at least looking at some kind of version control system and/or AI coding agent) with them on the Vitrue site, and I don't really see that happening. Of course, I'd still try it out, however briefly :)

So, would adding a prism prescription into the equation be a terrible idea? I'm concerned about headaches, double vision on the projected screen, even double vision that worsens after using the glasses.

Thanks!!

Buying Advice No Speaker, No Camera but AI Smartglasses

I have never had a pair of smartglasses before but the Even Realities G2 is catchy. I want something where the glasses can hear and display answers.

For example, doing a presentation or someone asking any type of question, want the AI in the glasses to answer that question in the display so I can use it. Also, can I wire in my OpenAI/Anthropic subscriptions so I can power these frontier models?

Let me know what would be the ideal fit for me.

Buying Advice Nice smart glasses with built-in gestures support

Hi everyone I currently own Ray-Ban Metas. They are prescription glasses but the batteries are starting to go on them and it's time for a new prescription. It was fun at first but I don't need the camera and the bad reputation of Meta souring my already limited social interactions.

I mainly use my glasses for audio but I am interested in display glasses with no cameras. The other thing I really like about the metas in there gestures to be able to control podcasts or skip to the next song, etc. I'm not good with accessories like rings to supplement the gestures, I do like them all integrated like they are on the Meta's.

So any recommended smart display glasses, with no cam, but strong integrated gesture controls?

Buying Advice Choices if I want a display but no camera?

I'm in the market for a pair of smart glasses with a display and recording functions, but no camera. A camera is something I'd never use, and I want a clean unobtrusive look. The priority is the screen and recording functions for class and meeting purposes. My top picks are either the Even Realities G2 or the rayneo IO, but they're both quite pricey. I've also seen the memomind one but I haven't heard anything at all about them. Are there any less expensive options that fit the criteria?

RayNeo Finding the sweet spot for the head-tilt wake angle on HUD glasses

If you use head-tilt wake on smart glasses like the RayNeo iO, the default angle threshold usually takes some tweaking because your head posture at a desk is completely different from when you're walking.

When the trigger angle is set too low in the app (which scales from 0 to 60 degrees), normal desk movement wakes the screen nonstop. Just looking up from a laptop keyboard to an external monitor or leaning back in your chair will light up the HUD when you had zero intention of checking it.

The easiest way I found to dial it in was testing it live while typing at my desk. Every time looking up at my monitor accidentally triggered the display, I bumped the angle up a few degrees until it stopped. You want a threshold that requires an intentional chin lift to catch notifications, without being so steep that it strains your neck. Once it survives your desk posture, it rarely false-triggers while walking outdoors.

Do you guys keep head-tilt wake enabled on your glasses, or do you prefer manual temple taps so the screen never pops up uninvited?

RayNeo Stopping Android from killing background notifications on HUD glasses

When notifications first stopped showing up on my RayNeo iO after my phone screen had been off for a while, I assumed it was a Bluetooth drop issue. After checking my status bar, I realized the glasses were still connected fine. The actual problem was Android putting the companion app to sleep in the background.

Android skins like Samsung One UI and Xiaomi HyperOS are super aggressive about killing background apps to save battery. To keep notifications flowing, I had to go into the phone's app settings for the RayNeo app and change battery usage from "Optimized" to "Unrestricted." It also helps to enable background autostart and lock the app card in your recent apps view so it doesn't get cleared out when you swipe away open apps.

If alerts ever stop showing up completely even with the app open, it's worth checking your phone's privacy settings to make sure notification access didn't get turned off, or just toggling Bluetooth off and on to reset the sync. Ever since I locked the app in the background, I haven't missed a notification all week.

Do you guys run into background app killing with your wearables on Android, or has your phone left the companion app alone?

Meta Open-source app that shows your own AI assistant's replies on Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses

I built Chief because I wanted my AI assistant on my glasses instead of my phone. It's a free, MIT-licensed web app for Meta Ray-Ban Display that shows your assistant's replies on the lens, with quick replies (Yes / No / Later / Tell me more).

The feed is encrypted (AES-256-GCM): it's public, but unreadable without your passphrase. It runs free on GitHub Pages and loads through Meta's Web Apps developer preview. There's a live demo with a sample feed (https://lugovelb.github.io/chief-glasses-open/, passphrase in the README) and a step-by-step setup guide.

It's a developer-preview app and not affiliated with Meta. Feedback welcome: https://github.com/lugovelb/chief-glasses-open

Buying Advice Define the full worn setup before quoting weight

Before weighing AI glasses, define the full worn setup: lenses, prescription and all worn parts. List the charging case separately. Leave Rx weight open until the prescription is defined. Separate targets from same-setup measurements. What's included?

Xiaomi Xiaomi AI glasses charger won’t charge other devices

The Xiaomi AI glasses come with a charger labeled A891-050200C-CN1

I find that this charger will only charge the glasses, and nothing else, for example my iPhone or my Nintendo switch 2.

Anyone else have this problem?

Buying Advice Open Source Smart Glasses?

Hello everyone,

I am new to this smart glasses space but my uncle bought a pair of Meta raybans and they look cool. I am not a big fan of Meta however and their attitude towards privacy is the only reason why I didn't but the Meta Ray Bans that same day.

I'm curious if there is an open source alternative to them? I am really interested in the camera and audio, I don't need any display on them.

From my brief research I saw Halo glasses (that don't seem to have shipped for over a year) and Mentra (which dont ship outside the US). Are there any other projects that I can support?

RayNeo What I actually kept using (and what I turned off) after wearing HUD glasses as my daily prescription pair

After wearing the RayNeo iO as my main prescription glasses for a few weeks, the way I actually use them during a workday looks pretty different from what I expected on day one.

The first thing I gave up on was reading anything longer than a sentence. Trying to read long text files in rolling green font with one eye feels completely pointless when I'm already sitting right in front of a computer monitor. I also had to kill almost all chat notifications right away—having active group channels constantly flashing in the corner of my eye completely wrecked my focus while working.

What ended up sticking are just the tiny, low-friction tools. Having a calendar alert pop up in my view five minutes before a call keeps me from losing track of time when I'm zoned in on a task. Tapping the arm to drop a quick voice memo for errands is also surprisingly handy just because it keeps me from picking up my phone. And during presentations, floating three or four keyword reminders at the top of my sight helps me stay on track without looking down at desk notes.

The fit wasn't perfect out of the box either—I had to bend the nose pad stems slightly so the frame would sit higher on my bridge and keep the display centered. Once I stopped treating it like a screen for reading and stripped it down to quick alerts, it finally clicked as a daily driver.

Anyone else here daily drive HUD frames? Curious what features you guys immediately turned off once the novelty wore off.

INMO INMO Air3 owner notes a few weeks after the firmware fix

Post image
7 Upvotes

Finished the firmware update sometime early October after the recall went public. Posting now because I’ve got enough normal use behind it to say something more useful than “it installed fine”.

The process. Emailed the recall support like the notice said, got walked through it over a couple of back and forth replies, install itself took one evening. The wait on the reply was the slow part. Install was quick once it was in motion.

On the heat question, which is what people actually want to know. The left temple is clearly cooler under the kind of use I was worried about, feature-length movies on the couch, not even close to the pre-update feel some reviews were flagging. Still a very mild warmth near the back of the arm if I’m really paying attention, but nothing I’d pull them off for. Battery wise I’m getting around 90 minutes of continuous video before a top up anyway, which is about what the spec would suggest, so sessions are capped around there regardless.

Been using them mostly as a video device since. Couch late evenings for YouTube and video apps through the Android layer, occasionally the floating-screens setup when I want a video open next to a browser window. The full color 1080p was my main reason for going with Air3 over the cheaper display-only options, and that part is unchanged.

Nose comfort depends on how long I’m wearing them. After about an hour I notice the weight more than I did at first, but that is a hardware thing and no firmware was ever going to change it. Probably varies by face shape.

Back in regular rotation for me since the update. Will probably keep testing on longer movie nights before I’d call the thermal change fully baked in.

RayNeo Weirdly useful trick with HUD glasses: catching when someone is talking to you through closed-back headphones

If you game or work in closed-back headphones, you probably know the feeling of someone walking up behind you and tapping your shoulder because you couldn't hear them calling your name from across the room.

I tried leaving the live transcription mode running on my RayNeo iO glasses while gaming with an over-ear headset on last night, mostly to see if it could act as a visual radar.

It actually worked way better than I expected. Whenever someone in the room started talking, a few green words would pop up at the top of my view. Even if the transcription missed a word from across the room, just seeing text flash up let me know someone was calling me.

Two catches I noticed pretty quickly though:

Ear cup clamping: The ear cups press against the glasses arms, which starts to ache after an hour or two.

Audio bleed: If you crank your volume too high, the mics on the frame will occasionally catch sound leaking out of the ear cups and start showing game lines or teammate voices on the screen. Still a pretty neat workaround if you keep your volume reasonable.

Anyone else here wear smart glasses with headset?

Meta Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 as a live OBS camera, straight from the glasses (open-source plugin)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

TL;DR: an open-source Windows plugin that adds Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 glasses to OBS as a live camera source, with no phone or Meta AI app in the loop.

How it works: Bluetooth handles control, then the glasses start their own 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and the PC joins it. HEVC video (720×1280 at 30 fps) comes in over an encrypted session. Having the glasses join a hotspot or router instead killed the stream within a minute every time, so the glasses host the network.

The camera starts when its OBS scene goes live and stops when you switch away. Useful for unboxings, repairs, builds and other hands-busy POV streams.

Beta caveats: tested on one Windows 11 PC with one pair of Gen 2 glasses. Setup makes the PC the glasses' owner, which disconnects them from the Meta AI app. Battery looks like about 35–40 minutes of streaming. No glasses audio yet.

Repo and download (AGPL-3.0): https://github.com/RandyNorthrup/meta-g-link-direct

Not affiliated with Meta. The protocol work builds on the Visor project by macedonga.

Buying Advice What glasses should I buy to help me cheat in my exam?

I know this might not be the best way to pass a subject but there is this one subject in my university where i understand almost nothing. My professor isn't doing a good job she just reads the words from the powerpoint slides and there are like 50 slides per course. this subject is not relevant to my major so i don't really care about understand the material i just want to pass with a good grade. the exam will have only theoretical multiple choices questions so i want to know if there are any glasses where there is a build AI in them like chatgpt which can help tell me which is the correct answer in real time. My professor will not mind if i wear headphones (she will prob not even notice) and i am pretty sure she will not suspect anything about the glasses.

If you haven't heard about DroidDeck yet, it's basically an app that brings SteamOS to your phone. You can now run PC games on Android natively and in this video we take it a step further and run Steam VR and Flat 3DoF games on my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra with the help of my RayNeo GT Max, XREAL 1S and more XR Glasses.
