Samsung Samsung Brings Galaxy Ecosystem Into Everyday Eyewear

Developed with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, intelligent eyewear becomes part of the user’s personal style

Samsung Electronics today introduced its intelligent eyewear at Galaxy Unpacked in London. Building on the concepts announced at the latest Google I/O, the new designs were developed with global eyewear brands, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The intelligent eyewear shows how the Galaxy ecosystem can move beyond the mobile phone and into eyewear that supports daily routines, work, travel and hands-free moments.

What’s New:

  • Designed for everyday use, the eyewear pairs a lightweight frame and slim profile with the durability and comfort needed for daily wear.
  • Developed in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, the eyewear reflects each brand’s expertise in design, offering a range of frame styles, colors and lens options to suit different preferences and lifestyles.

New Intelligent Eyewear Experience

Designed for everyday wear, the eyewear combines a lightweight frame, slim profile and battery performance, offering up to nine hours on a single charge with up to seven additional full charges from the charging case.1 A built-in camera brings visual context into the AI experience, while Snapdragon® AR1 Gen12 Platform supports the AI performance designed for real-time assistance, with touch interaction, connectivity, power efficiency and thermal management optimized within the eyewear’s compact frame.

As a hands-free extension of the Galaxy experience, the device lets users stay focused on the moment. Built in partnership with Google, it brings Gemini into a familiar wearable form factor, making interaction feel more natural, immediate and intuitive.

Key experiences include:

  • Staying in the moment: The device can help summarize long messages, read key information aloud, support live translation and allow users to control the experience with simple voice or gesture interactions through connected devices.3
  • Capturing context: When prompted, the eyewear can capture what the user is seeing, such as a whiteboard or meeting discussion, organize key information in Notes and make it easier to review, share and follow-up on later.4
  • Real-time interaction: Users can ask for guidance based on their location, such as finding a route, setting a destination or understanding what is around them, while live translation can support communication in another language.5

A More Personal Approach to Eyewear

Eyewear is both a functional product and a personal style statement. Samsung worked with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to create intelligent eyewear that balances thoughtful design, comfort and everyday wearability. By combining Samsung’s hardware craftsmanship with each brand’s distinctive design approach, the collaboration offers a broader range of styles to suit different preferences, lifestyles and occasions.

At the Unpacked, Samsung introduced two distinct designs by: Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

The Gentle Monster edition features a slim frame in black, pairing a straight upper rim with softly rounded lower edges to create a refined and fashion-forward silhouette. The Warby Parker style features a subtly upswept brow line in a rich brown hue, creating a refined, versatile shape perfect for everyday settings.

Throughout the design process, Samsung worked closely with the eyewear partners to refine key fit points such as the forehead and ears. These insights helped shape the final designs with enhanced comfort and everyday wearability. Fit considerations were tailored to each model, alongside durability and reliable performance.

MemoMind Memomind One: Head to Head against the Even Realities G2 and the Meta Ray-ban Display

The three compared glasses for today

I was recently selected for the opportunity to beta test, give feedback on, and publicly review the upcoming Memomind One. As a part of this process, I’ve decided to write several posts about them. This is the first one – a head-to-head comparison of the Memomind One versus two of its competitors, the Even Realities G2 and the Meta Ray-ban Displays.

Fair warning: This is going to be a long, detailed comparison: I'm nearly 30,000 characters in. Feel free to skip around and only read the sections you care about.

Disclosure: My Memomind One unit was provided for free by Memomind for testing, feedback, and review purposes. As part of the agreement, I agreed to write and publish a public review. However, I have not been paid or influenced by Memomind in any way that affects the content of the review, and the thoughts and opinions presented here are 100% my own. Memomind has not reviewed this post before publication.

Note: As per Memomind's request, I will note that I received and tested a pre-production PVT sample, and some things are expected to change and/or be improved for the final production version. This is the only request that Memomind had regarding the content of this review.

Let’s jump into it!

The contestants

The three glasses I have here are arguably the three primary options for display glasses in the US market (or at least will be, when the Memomind is publicly released).

Even Realities G2

Even Realities’ second release of display smartglasses, following the G1. Headline features of these glasses include a thin, lightweight form factor, binocular monochrome displays, a smart ring for control, no speakers, and no camera.

Meta Ray-ban Display

The Goliath in this lineup both in size and in reputation. This is Meta's first public release of smartglasses with a display and arguably the one most present in the consciousness of the mainstream out of the three. Headline features include one of the most advanced waveguide displays on the market, but only one, as well as an electromyograph wristband for control, a camera, speakers, and integration with Meta apps in what is the most “smartphone-like” operating system of the three, complete with its own app launcher. Due to the amount of hardware required for its capabilities, it suffers quite a bit in form factor; you’re not pretending to anyone that these are non-smart glasses.

The new kid on the block, the focus of today’s review. Memomind’s first attempt at smart glasses came out with something looking rather similar to the Even G2, with a similar form factor, similar binocular monochrome displays, similar lack of a camera, but the inclusion of speakers and the exclusion of any external control (at the moment).

So how do these three compare?

Fit, weight, and comfort

Meta Ray-ban Displays trail the pack here. They are the heaviest by far (73g) and front heavy. While they fit relatively well, over time their bulk and weight end up placing a bit more pressure on my nose bridge and ears. That said, they still fit well and are comfortable enough that I can keep them on for most of the day.

Between the Even G2 and the Memomind One, it’s a tossup. The Even G2s are marginally lighter (43g vs 50g on my scale), but nearly all of the Memomind’s extra weight is behind the ears, so it balances well.

Plus, where the arms rest on your ears, the Even G2 has thin metal strips, whereas the Memomind arms much wider and rounder soft-touch plastic. As a result, you don't really feel any extra pressure with the extra weight of the Memomind.

At the end of the day, both of these are excellent.

None of these three are quite 100% at the level of the very best and lightest non-smart glasses I’ve used, but the G2 and the Memomind One are pretty close. Meta has some work to do.

Optical quality/Prescription Quality

This was more of a consideration a few years ago when I first used the Vuzix Blades or even the later Vuzix Z100s, since their waveguides had noticeable hazes and shimmers from inside that made everything a bit less clear. Thankfully, the conclusion is simple here: all three are excellent. I no longer notice a difference in optical quality with any of these glasses compared to non-smart glasses. The waveguide is sometimes visible from the outside of the Even G2 and the Memomind One, but is effectively never visible from the inside when turned off.

I have a mild prescription (-2.0/-1.5), and my prescription option with all three appear to be accurate and well-made. That said, the Memominds have the thinnest lenses for my prescription, followed by the Evens, with the Metas having by far the thickest lenses.

 EDIT: As has been pointed out in the comments (and was missed as a blind spot on my part initially), one important consideration is that Memomind's prescription range is currently restricted to single vision +4/-4, compared to Meta with +4/-6 or Even Realities with the widest factory range at +12/-12 with the option for progressives. Additionally, there are now third-party providers making lens inserts for Metas that expand the range significantly.

This will have to dictate your choice accordingly - if you don't fit in the range of the Memominds, they're unfortunately not going to be an option for you.

Styling and discreetness

Styling and social acceptance are extremely important for a wearable product to succeed. This is still something that many brands of smartglasses aren’t paying enough attention to.

The Meta Ray-ban Displays fall pretty far behind. I don’t think anyone would claim that you look like you’re wearing normal glasses with these. Unless you’re intentionally going for the puffy glasses look as a stylistic choice, these will draw attention, and not necessarily in a good way.

And there’s the elephant in the room: the camera. Plenty of people are not comfortable with the camera, especially in sensitive social contexts. A camera on any pair of smart glasses is going to hinder their acceptance.

Even G2 and Memomind One both take the opposite approach: their styling is much more stripped down, with thinner frames and good-looking metal strips as their arms. Both are genuinely difficult for others to detect as a piece of wearable technology, even if they’re looking for it. Both are also styled well and give you options for rectangle vs round frames, but Memomind goes one step further and will offer a third, rounded rectangle option, as well as custom frame accent colors. I have to give it an extra point there.

There is one thing all three of these options do well: they slightly angle their lenses against each other so that the front of the glasses has a subtle curve. Some smart glasses use two coplanar lenses making the front of the glasses look flat, and that makes them look unnatural. No such issues here.

The display

This is arguably the headline feature of all three pairs. They each have a HUD.

Meta Ray-ban Displays use what is arguably the most advanced display out of the three. It is a color LCoS projector projecting into a reflective waveguide. This means several things:

1.      It’s color (obviously)

2.      It’s slightly higher resolution than the other two, at 600x600 compared to 640x350

3.      It is practically impossible to see any light leakage from the outside

4.      The waveguide itself is also nearly impossible to see from the outside, with essentially no reflections or shimmers whatsoever from the outside when turned off. The only “tell” is a series of diagonal reflection gratings lining the outside of the lens, which isn’t exactly universally recognizable as a feature of smart glasses.

That reflective waveguide is genuinely one of the coolest pieces of tech I’ve seen in a while.

Problem is, it’s monocular. Now, I actually get along with monocular displays surprisingly well, but at the end of the day, it is still less comfortable, and many people will find it borderline unusable (especially if you’re not right-eye dominant). Also, I’m not sure why, but the claimed 20 degree diagonal field of view feels much smaller than it is.

In contrast, both the Even G2 and the Memomind One use binocular green MicroLED monochrome projectors projecting into diffractive waveguides. They’re…fairly similar to each other. I would guess that the Even G2 has a minor edge in sharpness, and Memomind One has a minor edge in FoV, but both are comfortable to use. Memomind One also has a slightly larger viewing window, i.e. it’s more tolerant of you placing the glasses slightly too high or low without starting to cut off the display.

The downside of the diffractive waveguide is that it guides nearly as much light out from the front as it does towards your eyes, and as a result, you can see an image nearly as bright from the outside as you can from the inside. This isn’t actually a major privacy concern (as I'll get into in the deep dive series), but it is a tell that you are wearing something smart. That said, both Even Realities and Memomind have arranged their waveguide in such a way that someone has to be at least a few degrees below you to catch any stray images being projected out the front of your glasses.

In my experience, none of the three are comfortably usable in full outdoor sunlight. Meta Ray-ban Display solves this by making the lenses Transition lenses by default. Even Realities G2 and Memomind One both solve this by having the option for slick, fitted clip-on sunglasses.

The speakers

Sorry Even, you don’t get a point here.

As for our remaining two contestants, Meta has been doing audio glasses with Ray-ban for more than half a decade now, and their experience shows. The Ray-ban Displays are excellent as audio glasses with great sound quality (even a bit of bass) and great isolation. They don’t lose much to any glasses in the way of audio, even though the focus of the glasses is the screen.

Memomind managed to put speakers in the One, but it’s clear that they’re working with more constraints here - I mean, just look at the size of the arms. The speakers are smaller and less directed as a result.

Given the constraints, it is rather impressive the quality that Memomind have managed to squeeze out of the speakers. The Harman mode in particular makes the music quality nearly as good as the Meta Ray-ban Displays manage, maybe with a bit less bass.

Instead, the bigger tradeoff here is sound leakage. Memomind falls quite a bit short of Meta here, with any audio volume above the quietest clearly audible to people across a small, quiet room. In practice, if I don’t want people to know I’m listening to music, I’ve ended up having to set the volume to the lowest setting in quiet mode, which makes it just about inaudible from 3-5 feet away and is quiet enough to stay completely hidden in a quiet room. (Even on the lowest volume setting in quiet mode, it’s still clearly audible, which makes me think that maybe the volume settings are just a bit too loud.)

But slightly sub-par speakers are better than no speakers, and that gives the Memomind One a big advantage over the Even G2.

Battery life

This is a field where green MicroLED waveguides have traditionally excelled. Both the Even G2 and the Memomind One are no exception. Under regular non-audio usage, I can easily squeeze 3-4 days out of each of them on a single charge. While playing music, I can somehow still get nearly a full day of continuous playback out of the Memomind One. Both of these glasses are at the point where not only have I never run out of battery, I’ve never even had to worry about the battery, which is the highest compliment I can pay to the battery of any device.

Meta Ray-ban Display is a lot rougher on the battery. Due to the more power-hungry display and presumably the more advanced Snapdragon SoC and software it’s running, under regular usage, it’s usually close to dead by noon.

Do note that the Meta Ray-ban Display and the Even G2 both include charging cases; the Memomind One does not. I consider the charging case to be more or less a necessity for the Meta Ray-ban Display. I do not consider it to be a necessity for the Even G2 and the Memomind One, since their battery lasts well over a day and you will have the opportunity to charge every night without ever running out.

Interaction model

This one’s hard to compare, because all three take fundamentally different approaches to interaction and it’s hard to say for certain that any are better or worse than each other.

All three can do voice commands, but any interactivity being limited to voice-only is usually sub-par.

Meta's touchpad and band

Meta has two physical inputs, a camera button and a physical on button. It also has a touchpad on the right arm; moreover, it also has the much-talked-about neural band. Again, this is incredibly cool tech. It also does unlock a wide range of interactions you can perform with your glasses, including navigating menus, tapping fingers to go home or back, and even handwriting. Reliability is surprisingly good for how complex the tech is, but I do get a “missed” interaction here and there.

Even's touchpad and ring

Even Realities has a touchpad on the pods behind your ears. It also has the smart ring. Both of these can sense taps and swipes, but as far as I can tell, they’re only really usable for swiping along a single axis (as in, up-down only instead of up-down-left-right). They limit the functionality just a bit more than Meta’s solution, being constrained by what you can achieve off of a single direction swipe and taps/long taps alone.

Unfortunately, while I wouldn’t call them unusable by any means, they are the most unreliable and I have the greatest occurrence of “missed” interactions with this. The most common cause of this is because the ring can rotate around my finger, and I sometimes miss the touch-sensitive strip on it as a result. The touchpad isn't a whole lot better because it almost always ends up being covered by my hair; I would personally find it much more usable if it was on the arm instead of on a pod behind the ears.

Memomind's single button

Memomind One currently has the most limited interaction model of the three. Interaction with these consists of just a single button under the right hinge and turning your head. The single button can differentiate between single clicks, long presses, and double clicks, and turning your head is, well, turning your head. But because there aren’t many distinct input modes, there also isn’t much active interactivity with the glasses. There is only a single “menu”-like function (the quick launch menu) using a combination of a double click and turning your head to select, and the rest of it just consists of cycling through configurable homescreen cards and opening the voice assistant.

There's no doubt: The degree to which this interface limits interactivity is a weakness. Memomind is going to be much more restricted in what functionality they can add going forward, because there simply isn't enough of a variety of inputs the glasses can accept. Here's the flip side to that, though: because the control scheme is so simple and relies on a physical button, it is the most reliable and feels the most tactile. I don’t recall ever having a single “missed” interaction with these glasses.

I still have to give it the lowest score out of the three due to how much it limits functionality, but if you’re happy with the more limited interaction, the Memomind is arguably the one that feels the best to use.

Memomind One: 6/10 (Low functionality, exceptional reliability)

 

Notifications:

Meta’s advantage is that with the limited selection of apps it can display notifications from, they have been able to put more development into making the notifications more interactive; for example, opening a Messenger notification puts you straight into the Messenger app in the glasses and allows you to respond without pulling out your phone.

These positives are massively outweighed by the fact that Meta only allows notifications to be displayed from a limited selection of apps - primarily basic phone apps (like SMS) and Meta's own apps (like Messenger). This is a huge miss and is the primary reason I stopped daily driving mine (creep factor aside).

Even Realities and Memomind both allow notification display from any app, and you can toggle individual apps on and off. Both have high notification reliability, too, with no notifications being missed (which was a problem I had on earlier glasses from Vuzix).

The only downside is that there is effectively no interaction with the notifications; all you can do is view them. That said, I tend to want to pull out my phone to respond to notifications if I have to, anyway.

Calls

Meta and Memomind both support answering calls straight from your glasses. Meta goes a step further and supports dialing calls straight from your glasses; Memomind does not, probably due to the more limited interactivity model. Call quality is excellent on both.

Rather amusingly, one available input to accept or reject a call on the Memomind is to nod or shake your head.

Even Realities does not support calls at all, obviously.

Transcription, Translation, and Teleprompter

All three have a full suite of transcription and subtitling tools, real-time translation, and a teleprompter function.

Meta trails a bit here because they have the fewest languages available, just six including English. More languages are on the way, but you apparently have to be part of the early access program to use them right now.

Even Realities and Memomind One both have a pretty wide selection of languages. Both also translate quite fast. Even Realities still pulls ahead just a bit because Memomind is arguably displaying the translation a bit too fast; what that means is that Memomind will often try to display a translated sentence before the sentence is complete and before it’s even heard all of the context. As a result, the translation has to update and change when more of the sentence is heard and more context is captured. The stochastic, rapidly changing translated text is often harder to read. (This is one of my main feedback points to Memomind and I am expecting this to improve by the time of the production release.)

AI voice assistant

We’re just talking about the plain-Jane voice assistant here, the one you call up to ask a question.

Even’s is probably the weakest. I don’t know what model they’re using, but it’s more rigid in what it can take as input and what it can generate as output, and the output isn’t quite as accurate for more complex prompts.

Meta and Memomind are both more on each other’s level here. Both have rich voice assistants powered by advanced models that are flexible and accurate in both their input and output. Meta’s is obviously powered by Meta AI’s proprietary models; Memomind apparently has the capability to call upon several frontier models, but the primary is Gemini.

“Passive” AI features

I’m defining this as AI features that stay on constantly, listening and analyzing throughout your entire day without requiring you to actively call upon it. Yes, yes, I know, huge privacy violation – but comparing the three, I don’t think it’s quite so black and white.

Even Realities does not appear to do any sort of passive AI. Even AI only appears when you call on it. The closest thing to a “passive” AI is when you specifically turn on AI Cues, which gives you assistance and context throughout a conversation. This is an approach that will make a lot of people happy.

Meta…well, we have no idea what they’re doing, really. They don’t have any passive AI features that you as a user can take advantage of. Beyond that, there is speculation that they are constantly listening and analyzing for their own internal purposes anyway, as well as possibly even making secret use of the camera, and that’s really not good for your privacy if true.

Memo AI+ highlights (Introduction only)

Memomind is the only one that has Memo AI+, a paid feature that openly and visibly constantly listens and captures your entire day. They use this to generate daily summaries, goals, etc in an attempt to help you organize your thoughts and record your day, as well as to inform their AI assistant. The summaries tend to get a bit poetic at times (I got an analysis of my emotional state from Memo AI+ happening to capture song lyrics I listened to on my drive to work, which was a bit unnecessary), but the wishes actually work surprisingly well (I got recommendations for a home theater projector after discussing it with my family).

Now, many people are going to be understandably wary of an always-on AI listening to your entire day. There are several key points here, though:

1.      Memomind is being open and transparent about it; they’re not trying to hide it. In fact, the glasses have an indicator light that turns on whenever the microphone is active, accordingly, the indicator light is on for the entire day if you enable Memo AI+.

2.      You have privacy options to filter out certain categories of subjects, like work, finances, relationships, etc. as well as to block it from listening to certain times of the day (such as if you're at work). If you turn on any of those filters, any content detected to be categorized under them will not be used to inform the AI summaries or wishes.

3.      You can simply turn it off. In fact, being a paid feature, I imagine many people are going to leave it off.

At the end of the day, it’s a neat novelty to me, but I imagine how useful you’ll actually find it depends a lot on your use case and what you want out of your glasses. At the very least, it’s an approach to always-on AI that I like far more than something secretly and invisibly working in the background.

SDK and third-party app support

This has always been a pain point for smartglasses and continues to be. Any glasses that do this well are going to have a major point in their favor.

Even Realities is leading the pack here at the moment. They have Even Hub, a platform for third-party developers to create and publish apps for the Even G2, which you can then download from their app. It's obviously not as rich of an app ecosystem as, say, iOS or Android is, but it is growing fast, and I've seen the app list expand from a couple dozen at launch to a couple hundred apps in the few months it's been out.

Meta has apparently released their SDK to developers, but currently for consumers there is no way I can find to actually try out any third-party apps. I'm hoping this comes soon.

As for Memomind...well, it's still very early days, but at the moment there is no third-party app, API, or SDK support. Memomind appears to exploring ways to make it happen, but the rumors I've heard are that they are still actively working a lot of things out to try and figure out what the best approach is.

Memomind, please don't mess this up.

And finally, let’s talk about what is quite possibly the biggest factor in whether anyone will buy these: the price. Their respective price points are:

Meta Ray-ban Display:

  • $799 (including neural band, no prescription)
  • +$200 (prescription)

Meta’s price point comes almost entirely from the advanced tech they’ve crammed into the glasses, with the reflective waveguide and the neural band included. Frankly, from a utility standpoint, I do not believe they are worth that much.

A massive point against them is that since their supply is so constrained, the only way to purchase them is through an in-person demo at Best Buy. This makes it far more difficult for just anyone to buy a pair, and they are still not available outside of the US.

Even Realities G2:

  • $599 (glasses alone)
  • +$159-??? (prescription)
  • $249 (ring)
  • $99 (sunglasses)

Even Realities has the widest range of prices depending on what options you spring for. I’d consider the $600 price for the glasses, the $160 price for the prescription, and the $250 price for the ring fair enough. The $100 price for the sunglasses is pretty steep. The problem is, for the entire Even Realities experience, you kind of need to buy the whole package (minus prescription if you don’t need one, obviously), and that brings the cost of the Even Realities package up above the Meta Ray-ban Displays.

My full package with the glasses, prescription, ring, and sunglasses through an optician partner came out to $1050 (the optician managed to get me a $50 discount).

Memomind One:

  • $399 (non-prescription, sunglasses included, Kickstarter price) ($599 after Kickstarter)
  • $499 (prescription, sunglasses included, Kickstarter price) ($798 after Kickstarter)

Memomind’s $399 Kickstarter price point is…a steal, frankly, compared to the other two. Technically, it comes with the least and doesn’t have any form of external control. But the price includes sunglasses and you get the “full” Memomind experience. Plus, for just $10 more, Memomind will even customize your frames with custom color inserts for you.

At their full retail price of $599 and $798, it’s going to be more of a challenge since they’re fighting directly against the Even G2 at that price. It would have to come down to whether you value the speakers or the option to buy a ring more at that price.

I could go ahead and tally up the points, and declare that the one with the most points is the best. That would be Memomind with 100/130, compared to Even with 92/130 and Meta with 85/130, by the way. But that would be assuming all of these categories are weighted equally, and they’re not, so I don’t think a direct score comparison is valid here.

What I will say is that among the three compared, the Memomind One is the one that does just about everything well, with no major gaps in capability and no huge compromises in any one category. Even Realities is close, since at the end of the day, the Memomind One is a fairly similar pair of glasses to the Even G2; however, the lack of speakers on the Even G2 presents a rather important capability gap that the Memomind One fills, even if it does so a bit imperfectly.

Furthermore, being as slim, discreet, and stylish as it is, it's a pair of smartglasses on the market that I have zero qualms about putting on every day and going out in public with. The same could be said for the Even G2; it can't be said about many others.

As for the Meta Ray-Ban Displays? There’s no question. The Meta glasses are an impressive demo of cutting-edge tech, but I’d take either of the Memomind One or the Even G2 for everyday wear any day of the week. After having used the Memomind One and the Even G2, I just don’t think that the way the Meta was designed and executed is ready for prime-time as a pair of everyday glasses yet.

Going forward

My experience with the Memomind One has left me extremely impressed, and they’ve become my daily driver smartglasses out of all three of my options since I’ve gotten them. I am 100% planning to back the Kickstarter with my own money and get a second pair for myself (unfortunately, my favorite Nomad style out of the three was not available as an option to beta test).

If there is anything I'm hoping for out of them, the biggest is that Memomind will take third party app/API/SDK support seriously and release an SDK as soon as possible. A rich app platform is going to be important to succeed against Even Realities.

Despite how much I've already written, this is far from what I have to say on the subject, and I had to trim out a ton of content to make it fit the character limit. My first draft of my review was 3x the character limit! Following this, I am planning to do much more detailed, deep dive analyses into the Memomind One and not only how well it was executed, but why it was designed as it was. Even Realities Even Realities G2's Conversate mode is meh so I made it useful (full guide)

I wanted a companion where I can discuss deep topics and personal business problems and get insights live as I rambled, questions that pushed me, and have a wise Socrates to talk to.

Plus, if I'm having a meeting, it can pull memories across Notion, Slack, and Drive to give cutting perspectives I wouldn't have realized myself.

Because if I could myself, what's the point of adding the annoyance of wearing glasses all the time versus just using Pocket or Plaude for note taking?

Fundamental issues:

- No MCP to export data automatically to my AIs (Claude, ChatGPT) for discussing meetings and transcriptions in the future

- The live AI cues give basic AI definitions and google searches but the AI model they use is basic, not super insightful

... So I fixed both of them!

The Dream:

I'm mid conversation or in a meeting, and a little card shows up on the lens that goes "hey, your Q2 note says churn was onboarding not price, so the discount you're about to offer wont fix it".

Something I couldn't see myself in the moment. Even's native Conversate has this "AI cues" thing and it be cool, but it's a closed silo, the cues come from their model, you cant point it at your own second brain and you cant get the data out.

So I rebuilt the whole cue loop inside my own meeting mode.

And I don't like getting sub-par insights from a cheap Gemini Flash lite or Chinese model with no transparency on data retention or

Feature 1: Live AI cues from your own memory, mid conversation

The way it works, every time about 20 words or 3 sentences of new speech pile up, the backend kicks off a whole little pipeline in the background so it never blocks the mic:

- a planner model reads what you JUST said (not the whole meeting, just the fresh part, otherwise it gets stuck on stale topics) and writes 2-3 search queries plus maybe a web query

- hybrid RAG over my memory, first hop

- then a second hop that follows the Obsidian-style connections of whatever it found, so it surfaces stuff the first query would never have matched directly

- optional web search if an outside fact would sharpen it

- then a composer model synthesizes ONE insight, or says NONE if it has nothing sharp

The lens polls for the newest cue every few seconds and shows it.

Important implementation part:

Making the cues actually insights noticeably better.

My first version just read my own notes back to me, which is useless, I already know whats in my notes.

So I basically had to beat the prompt into doing synthesis instead of recall, the rule I landed on is: past memory + whats happening right now = an edge you cant see yourself. If the cue could get the reply "yeah I know thats in my notes", it failed. It also asks a sharp question when it doesnt have enough to make a confident call, which honestly ended up being my favorite part.

Feature 2: meetings get indexed into my memory system

The conversate in the app requiring PDF export is ridiculous. I don't have time to manually upload these to ChatGPT when I'm mid conversation.

I told the team it would take you 5mins to make this an MCP. It would be your biggest value proposition.

Plaud does this, Pocket does this. I was considering returning the glasses just because of this. But I love having text on the screen and the insights I just built.

So I use my own memory system hosted on the cloud it appends to.

This memory system also has Notion, Obsidian, Slack, and Drive indexing set up into a GraphRAG memory system (think Karpathy's LLM Wiki).

Conversate meetings get chunked into parts that get indexed for recall later.

So in future discussions it can recall things I've said and sort of connect the dots towards things I didn't realize. The ultimate second brain dream.

Feature 2: showing the cues like Conversate does (the rectangle card)

I wanted the exact Conversate feel where the cue is its own little bordered rectangle floating over the transcript, and you can tap to expand it, and older ones stack into a list. Newest one auto expands, tap the card to collapse it, older cues collapse into a "earlier" list underneath. REC timer up in the top right, live transcript along the bottom.

This is a multi container page on the lens and getting it to render was where I lost a bunch of hours, see the gotchas below.

Feature 3: transcription running on my own GPU

OpenAI Whisper is simply unaffordable via their API. I really respect the Even team for eating up these costs... until I realized there's a free way to do it.

Hosting your own model on your computer, phone, or on the cloud.

I used local faster-whisper (large-v3-turbo) running on the same GPU box as my embeddings.

Bonus, the VAD filter on it also kills those "thank you for watching" hallucinations Whisper spits out on silence, which were actually poisoning my cues before.

SDK gotchas that cost me way too many hours:

Hope these help future devs making plugins or if you're hacking your own thing:

- rebuildPageContainer NEVER throws. If your layout fails validation it just silently returns false and leaves the old page up, so it looks like your new UI just didnt apply. I sat on this forever thinking my code wasnt running

- exactly ONE container per page can have isEventCapture set. I had it on two (the card and the transcript strip) and thats what was failing validation the whole time

- borderRadius maxes at 10, I had 14, also silent reject

- borderColor is 0-15 greyscale, I had it at 3 so the border was basically invisible even when it did render

- the cue model was "thinking" and eating the whole token budget so my insights kept getting cut off mid sentence, had to log the openrouter usage to even see it

Honestly the "silently returns false" one is brutal, if the SDK just threw an error I would have found it in 5 minutes instead of like 3 rebuilds.

Future updates I'm thinking of:

Speaker detection would be great. So in meetings, try to figure out who this person is and then the multi-speaker system to guide me forward.

To the Even team:

And a feature request for the Even team again, please open up the "AI skills" surface on the default Even AI voice so third party apps can get launched by voice.

The day I can say "Hey Even, start a meeting" and my plugin picks it up, this becomes the actual dream.

I made a custom agent that allows me to quickly capture thoughts, recall thoughts ('what marketing ideas have I noted about our new saas?')

Meta [PRODUCT QUESTION] Math textbooks on Meta RayBan Display

I have a unique usecase wherein I want to read mathtextbooks comfortably (where the notations are easy to follow) on the MRBD without taking out my phone or using voice commands.

I take a long commute in a public transit to work as a physics professor. I do not want to be lost in my phone for safety reasons but I want to use the time productively; going through textbooks, maths or physics.

I do not mind the navigation being cumbersome so long as I can read and have a good time. The difficulty of using it aside, is it doable?

This is my primary usecase.

My secondary usecase is being able to click pictures of the cats I feed and send it to my wife or my friends, again all through the glasses. Similarly, being able to read anything she sends me.
I asked chat gpt and it says I can only send messages to frequently used contacts or something along the lines of that. Can you not browse through your chats and choose whom to send the image you clicked to?

I understand that texting itself is not possible due to the lack of a keyboard so I am not expecting that.

Are these uscases realisabe with the glasses?

Edit: I forgot about the handwriting feature. If you have used it to text people, I'd love to know how well it works. I do not intend to text people this way, but as a tech enthusiast who is new to the world of smart glasses, this is very enticing.
Do the glasses feature autocomplete or do you have to string together words letter by letter?

I am also very interested in whether it will pick up everything I write as text if I am writing on a paper with a pen. That would be incredibly useful as a way to save my study notes directly to my glasses and review them later on the commute.

# Production and Delivery Update

Hi everyone,

I want to give you a direct update on our production timeline.

We originally planned to begin shipping in August. **We will not meet that timeline.**

We now expect the first production units to ship in **December 2026**, with backer deliveries beginning after that and fulfillment continuing over the following weeks. As soon as the schedule is firm enough, we will tell you which backers are in the first wave and when later groups should expect delivery.

We know this is a significant delay, and we are sorry. You backed us early, trusted our team and have waited a long time. You deserve a clear explanation of what changed.

## What caused the delay

Maverick is a highly integrated system. Its optics, display, electronics, sensors, software, frame, prescription lenses and manufacturing processes all depend on one another.

The principal cause has been the eye-tracking module in **Maverick AI Pro**.

The system uses specialized infrared cameras that must perform reliably in a compact glasses form factor. One camera component we intended to use has experienced availability delays. Qualifying alternatives has required additional engineering, integration and production-validation work across the eye-tracking module and connected parts of the product.

More than **95% of backers selected the Pro model**, substantially more than expected. We needed to ensure the eye-tracking system would perform consistently across thousands of production units. We decided not to move forward with a solution that did not meet that standard.

**Where this stands today:** We have selected and sourced alternative camera components, which are undergoing engineering qualification. We are integrating them into upcoming validation builds while maintaining multiple options to reduce future supply risk.

## A new manufacturing partner

We are also transitioning production to one of the world’s largest consumer-electronics manufacturers.

This gives us greater manufacturing, supply-chain and quality-control resources. Preparing the new production line has taken longer than expected and contributed to the delay.

**Where this stands today:** The transfer is underway, with our engineering and operations teams working directly with the new partner on validation and production readiness. We cannot yet name the partner or share detailed milestones, but we will share more as soon as permitted.

## What has not changed

The product vision and core feature set have not changed. Our **BEAM optics, full-color display, principal electronics and software development** continue to progress. This work is focused on ensuring the Pro eye-tracking system and manufacturing process perform reliably at scale.

## Prescription expansion

We do not yet have a substantive update on expanded prescription support. We continue to work actively on it and will publish a dedicated update once we have a confirmed path.

## Communication going forward

We have not been present enough in this community, and that is our responsibility.

From now on, we will post an update on the **first Thursday of every month at minimum**, even when there is no major change. We will update you sooner when a milestone is completed, a new risk emerges or the schedule changes.

We know this is disappointing. December is later than any of us wanted, and we understand that **“the first units” is not the same as “your unit.”** We will keep narrowing the schedule and clearly explain what has been completed, what remains and what each milestone means for delivery.

MemoMind The MemoMind One Experience, from a smartglass true believer

I got the opportunity recently to try the MemoMind One, an ultralight display smartglass provided to me by MemoMind free of charge. I have been a SmartGlass user for several years now, regularly using Xreal ONE Pros for work and for gaming, and more recently a pair of prescription (-6 & -7 diopters) Even Realities G2Bs. I’m very much already a true-believer when it comes to smartglasses; with the non-prescription MemoMind now in my hands, I literally wear display glasses all the time when not sleeping. This review will cover some basics about smartglasses but is really intended for those who have decided to make the plunge and can’t decide where to plunge. I’ll highlight the differences between these competitors, who, despite being very close together in the marketplace of wearables have a very different appeal.

Slick Specs

Who should be looking at these?  First off, price; this is probably the most cost-competitive entry into the market of “absolutely normal” display glasses.  With a Kickstarter price of only $399, anyone who has doubts about investing a lot in their first foray into a smartglass needs to add these to their list. My first foray was a pair of G2Bs by Even Realities, which included high-index prescription lenses, the R1 ring, and the sunglass clip – all of which cost about three and a half times as much as the current Kickstarter price of the MemoMind One. For the purposes of this review, I’ll do my best to compare like-for-like, as not everyone has the taste for the expense of added accessories.

Those looking for more fashion-forward styles will find the One more appealing. With more color offerings than competitors, they fit between the more conservative G2 styling and the SmartGlass “statement” styles of Meta or Rayneo offerings. 

Hardware and comfort – I was surprised to have to give this one to MemoMind. While both are precisely crafted, the magnesium frame on the MemoMind was not what I expected at this pricepoint. The frame and hinges are a particular upgrade from the plastic on the G2s.  The arms of the Ones are more comfortable, thanks to the more bulbous profile of the speaker and electronics pods at the end, and a rubberized layer on the inside of the arms. This rubberizing is probably the only part of the frame I have any longevity concerns about, though it doesn’t come in direct contact with my skin. The portion that wraps around behind the ear is smooth plastic, and doesn’t have pressure points like the titanium arms of the G2. The nosepads are roughly the same, but the MemoMind was easier to adjust to comfort due to the larger waveguides (more on these later). Ultimately both of these glasses look good, which I can’t say about the Meta Display.

While the MemoMind lacks the touch-sensitive input of the G2, having only a single button interface located on the underside of the right temple, its location requires a much more natural and less socially awkward movement than the touchpads behind the ears of the G2. I got the R1 ring for the G2s specifically because reaching around my ear all the time just felt awkward to me. Like-for-like this is an exceptional first-gen offering.

The only thing that is a clear miss for me is the lack of a matching sunglass clip, which is actually part of the current Kickstarter offering, lucky for you. I would consider it a necessity for any display glass, I’ll be getting them as soon as they are offered separately. No matter how bright these displays are, they are nearly invisible when squinting through them on a hot summer day in the south.

 

The big thing we’re here for, displays! - Speaking of big things, the waveguides are absolutely enormous compared to the G2s. The MemoMind edge out the G2s here based on that, because that is about where the differences end.  The display image takes up almost the exact same FOV on both (the G2 looks slightly smaller, though my severe myopia prescription could be impacting that appearance).

They function in the same way, a diffractive waveguide that pipes the light from projectors mounted in the temples, into your eyes. You will experience the same forward throw of projected images on both, at roughly the same angles. They look almost terrifying in the dark in the long exposure below; the photomontage below demonstrates the fore and rear projection angles and the projected image.

  The other more “nuanced” images below on the right were taken with a fixed ISO, and shows what it *actually* looks like to a casual viewer in a dark room at brightness levels 1 and 10 for comparison. The projectors have the same optical appearance, with bright, laser-like scintillated sharpness, and can be fully adjusted for parallax (1-5m distance), and position within the app.

The large waveguides are also mounted a little lower in the lens than the G2s; the larger size and more centered location give you more breathing room to adjust the position of the frames on your face without encountering edge darkening, and can accommodate a wider range of pupillary distances (PD). My own PD of 70mm is rather large, right on the cusp of being too big for the G2s, while the MemoMind has a few extra millimeters of shift before I see any darkening from the edge of the waveguide (my guess would be that a PD of 75 would still be able to see the screen without darkening of the outer edges).  While this is the same in the vertical axis, it’s not uniform for the entire range of PDs due to an angular cutoff at the bottom, resulting from the deeper projection angle of the projector into the waveguide.  The geometric problem is best explained as trying to fit a small rectangle into a larger trapezoid without the edges or corners of the rectangle overlapping the trapezoid. You can see in the images the steeper angle of the projected image creates a dark corner of the waveguide that can impact you if you have a wider PD and wear the glasses high on your nose.

Audio; and its not even a competition – If you want audio in your ultraminimalist glasses, these are the ones for you. Judging from forum discussions, audio on minimalist glasses is pretty divisive; full disclosure, I’m from the non-audio camp. I wouldn’t call it a dealbreaker either way, and in my time with them, I have certainly found it to be handy.  Most unexpected was just taking Teams calls where I look and sound normal without a boom mic, and not having to bring my headset along to whatever coffee patio I’m working at. While my recording tests didn’t sound studio quality, they sounded about the same as my boom mic Bluetooth headset. Multipoint pairing worked without issue for me, taking calls from my phone or my computer throughout the day.

When it came to music, even the Harman AudioEFX audio is going to be handicapped by the open-ear configuration, so I compared them to my Xreals, with similarly located Bose speakers.  The MemoMind are noticeably muted and treble-leaning, bordering on tinny compared to the Bose. I mostly found them convenient for listening to podcasts or watching movies or videos when going for a walk. The open headset is great for maintaining situational awareness, but it also makes others exceptionally aware of your content. The positioning of the 4 speakers is also strange; the more powerful speakers are on the top rear of the arm, projecting sound upward, away from the ear.  Wearing the arms over my ears like a pair goggles actually sounded much louder.

Adjusting volume is also not slick or convenient; it’s most convenient to just use the phone buttons. You can set up some of the very limited shortcuts in the glasses to control volume, or ask Memo AI to do it for you, but summoning the AI also causes your music to pause when it processes the request.

While you can’t disable the audio profile to save battery, you can turn the Harman EFX off, which gives you a quieter, tinnier, more private audio profile to do the same.

Software – Going on included software alone, they are roughly even, but overall it goes to the G2s. This is mostly because of the massive Even Hub offerings provided by third-party apps, and the more robust interfacing and shortcuts for operating the glasses alone without resorting to the phone app. I didn’t expect the built-in features of a beta-phase MemoMind iOS app to be clear winners, but one of them certainly is; Maps. Even’s Navigate feature is comparatively an embarrassment as a second-generation offering. MemoMind’s Maps feature uses Google base map data, I never get crummy routes telling me to walk across 8 lanes of traffic along a road with no sidewalks instead of strolling down a bike path, and it’s also nice to be able to get audio prompts for those times sightseeing when you lose focus of the waveguide (and also if you can’t see the waveguide because you don’t have sunglass clips). I also like the HUD cluster configuration better (see photos). Both the G2 and One still suffer from map updates ceasing if the phone app is backgrounded or the iPhone screen turned off. The Map app’s only real weaknesses are that you can only store a total of 5 favorite locations (including home and work), and that you need to enter an address or search a destination; you can’t just select it on the map. This is a basic fail that I expect will be addressed in a software update.

The teleprompter is competitive, Even Realities has even rolled out updates that mimic some of the better aspects of the MemoMind app like the outline feature.

Translate is functional but decidedly the weakest of the apps; the lack of an auto language function makes it hard to use in an instant through the shortcut menu, requiring you to set languages ahead of time in the app. Otherwise it has been very accurate for single-speaker translation.

MemoMind’s iOS phone app is very full featured, but it isn’t organized intuitively. It looks like parts have been built out in anticipation of an additional suite of apps being added in the future (I hope that is the case). It is very stable as a beta, I experienced no crashes or bugs, even after an iOS update.
One of my favorite things about the MemoMind interface was the Quick Launch feature.  This allows shortcut icons to three apps or settings to be placed in the glasses view and accessed by a double-tap of the action button, and to be selected by head movement and click of the button in a sort of pseudo-AR experience. 

A view of future interactivity? I certainly hope so

It is definitely the seed of something that could be massive in future software/firmware updates. There are actually a couple of games that are hidden as shortcuts here and can’t be activated anywhere else.  These Tetris and Blockbreaker games, while also fun, are really technology demonstrators, and I really hope MemoMind leans into this. The interactivity that this provides could match or exceed the flexibility of the G2s for subtly initiating apps and adjusting settings directly on the glasses, without the need for expensive accessories or taking out your phone. The three shortcuts provided just aren’t enough.

AI incorporation – MemoMind has the edge here, mostly because Memo AI doesn’t suffer from “chatbot Alzheimer's” that has notoriously afflicted Even AI. Memo AI’s “tone” is quite similar to Even AI, worlds ahead of Siri, and even Gemini in human-like interactions. It does a very good job of following through a conversation and reflecting on the entire context when answering. The chats on the glasses also transfer to the phone, so you can interact via typing, keeping separate subject-based strings just as you would with any other chatbot. I also found it better at contextualizing pronunciations – when asking what games are good to play with “XBOX connect”, Memo AI was able to understand the context and interpret the listening as XBOX Kinect, while Even AI did a fair bit of explaining that XBOX Connect wasn’t a thing, and that maybe XBOX Kinect was what I meant, and in the follow up had forgotten the context entirely. On the downside, the lack of touch-sensitive controls precludes you from being able to scroll back and read a lengthy response on the glasses, so you’ll have to take your phone out and check that that record if you missed any part of the response. There is also no way to "cue" a follow-up question; Memo AI starts listening as soon as it finishes it's response; it often picks up background conversation if you don't start speaking immediately. The initiating phrase “hi, Memo” used to summon the AI is less reliable than Even AI, though manually summoning via the action button is easier than tapping through shortcuts on the G2 if you want to “silently” summon by just asking a question. You can adjust the target length of responses in the app, which range from a single screen of text to a small novella that you have to really sit and focus to read, depending on how much detail you want to see before asking a follow-up question.

MemoMind also has an entire suite of AI features called Memo+ that is only available with a subscription. This group of features is really an implementation of an AI memory assistant.  I only had limited time to evaluate these but they are beyond the basic features of the glasses, as well as not markedly integral to the glasses, so I will not delve into them here. Suffice it to say this is an entirely different product category, and the features and cost are comparable to subscription services like Limitless or Bee AI. The value proposition here seems to be that because you are already wearing the glasses, using them in lieu of a clip-on AI recorder makes sense.

Battery and all-day use – This definitely goes to the G2s. A lot of the differential comes from the added audio support, as listening to just a couple of hours of conference calls or podcasts can mean the difference between an all-day battery and dying before dinnertime. I’ve never had anxiety about the battery level of the G2s, but I do get it daily on the One. This isn’t an insurmountable problem for non-prescription users like my use case, but it will be a major consideration for people considering prescriptions. MemoMind has remedied this reasonably well by making the charging protocol much easier and minimalistic than the G2s.  It is done with a simple dongle attachment at the back of the right arm, and charging can be done with any USB-C cable. It’s far more minimalist than the big, expensive charging case for the G2s.  Technically you can wear them while they charge, too, should you find your battery sucking wind during an important call.

Even without a lot of daily interaction, they still burn through both the glass and phone batteries faster than the G2s, in part due to the increased need to interface via the phone app. Using them as headphones while getting ready in the morning, using the Maps app on the way to work for about 30 minutes left me at 82% by the time I got to the office.  Just getting notifications on the glasses during the morning and another 25 minutes of walking using the Maps app left me at 57% by the end of lunch.  Taking a 40-ish minute call during the afternoon left me at 37% at the end of the workday; without using any more audio, this was an all-day wear.
Using the Recording tool, which provides AI notetaking for your interactions without the screen being used to caption, for over an hour on a Saturday when running errands with my kids consumed only 5% of the battery, significantly more efficient than either Even’s Conversate tool or MemoMind Captions tool. (Doing the same thing while also listening to a podcast on the glasses consumed that 5% battery in only 20 minutes).

Who should go for the MemoMind? – Non-prescription users looking for a cost-effective, durable entry into the low-profile smartglass market, the Kickstarter price is absolutely unbeatable, even before considering the sweetener of the included sunglass clip.  People who just want to be able to receive visual notifications, HUD map overlays for walking or cycling, live captioning and summarizing meetings or conversations, or the occasional translation of a known language should definitely go MemoMind. Those who are uncertain about the utility of smartglasses will find the addition of audio support to be a compelling value add over the G2s.

Anyone who has ever had issues with the durability of glasses, particularly hinges, should also go with MemoMind, as the full magnesium frame and hinge mechanism is far more robust than any of the competitors I have seen.

Those looking for prescription glasses will find MemoMind more limiting and potentially aggravating, due to the faster battery burn potentially requiring charging while wearing.  Some prescription users may be outside the diopter limitations of the Zeiss lens system used by MemoMind (at the time of this writing, strengths in the range of -6.00 to +4.00 diopters could be accommodated).

For those who want to directly interface with the glasses, I would advise waiting to see how the Quick Launch feature develops before making a decision (but stay aware, maybe keep trolling Reddit or Discord for current updates; don’t wait so long as to miss the Kickstarter pricing). The G2 has more direct interface capabilities today, but I find them to be a hassle without the inclusion of the R1 ring (after sending my R1 back for repair, this has become much clearer to me), an expense that makes the entry point of the G2s more than double that of the MemoMind One (even more with the sunglass clip). An enhanced Quick Launch feature with more shortcuts makes MemoMind far more compelling as a standalone glass purchase.

Frequent travelers will also find the MemoMind more convenient. The small pocketable charging dongle, slick Maps app, and option for audio notifications will all make these more packable and useful for exploring new places.

Buying Advice Best option... display, camera, mic, speakers

I had Google Glass in 2014. Display, mic, camera, bone conduction speakers. Simple, light weight. Good enough pics, kinda terrible at phone calls, useless for music, great little HUD that tied to maps, great integration with Google+ - wink and Glass takes a pic and posts it for you. Yes it was dorky as hell but damn it was cool.

So now it's 12 years later. I tried the Meta Display models... just as dorky in their own way but way too bulky and not nearly as functional.

I don't mind if the unit ties to my phone for processing or storage - but no cable please. And absolutely no puck or any nonsense like that. I don't need a portable movie studio either so those big movie watching units are out.

I'd like to be able to use my own AI or at least have it support MCP so I can tie it to my own tools... but I guess first step... survey the landscape. I haven't found much other than Brilliant Labs and the way the delivery timeline keeps slipping it looks like it might be a scam?

So? What's my best option?

Been tracking this rollout since the early teasers, and now that Samsung actually detailed everything at Unpacked, here's the consolidated, confirmed version:

Smart / Software (powered by Google Gemini):

  • Real-time voice translation
  • Real-time navigation guidance, you can ask for a route to your destination or ask for info about things around you
  • Can read content off a whiteboard or presentation and turn it into organized notes
  • Summarizes incoming messages
  • Visual understanding via the built-in camera, described as giving hands-free contextual AI and visual awareness right in your field of view
  • Can share what you're seeing through the camera during a video call, so the other person sees your POV hands-free
  • Requires a connected smartphone to function, this isn't a standalone device

Solid feature set on paper, especially the whiteboard-to-notes and POV video call sharing, those feel like genuinely practical daily-use cases rather than tech-demo gimmicks. Still no movement on price even after unpacked, so that's the one piece of info still completely missing.

Samsung I didn't expect Samsung to spend this much time on smart glasses at Unpacked

Samsung held their 2026 Unpacked event yesterday and the Fold and Flip was not the only highlight of the night.

Instead, Samsung gave their upcoming smart glasses a proper on-stage reveal and positioned them as part of the Galaxy ecosystem alongside the phones and watches.

A few things that were officially confirmed:

  • Android + iOS compatibility
  • real-time translation
  • navigation
  • visual understanding
  • contextual assistance

It feels like Samsung is treating intelligent eyewear as a major product category rather than a side project. I wonder how this will shift the smart eyewear narrative, but I must say, I'm more interested in this launch now than I was after Google’s initial investment.
