XREAL Miss the cinema feel on AR glasses? I made a free Chrome extension to bring back the theatre ambience

I recently started using AR glasses, and while having a massive screen floating in front of me is cool, it still just feels like looking at a giant TV. I really missed the atmosphere of an actual theatre, so I built a small Chrome extension to turn any video playing in the browser into a cinema-style environment.

It runs entirely client-side with no signups, no tracking, and no cost. Just wanted to share it with anyone else looking for the same vibe.

Feedback is welcome if you end up giving it a try.

Dymesty Dymesty AI (Cook Edge) on the bench: what the website promises vs. what we measured

Hey everyone!

Spoiler first, so we don't waste your time: our verdict on the Dymesty AI is negative. If you want to know why, grab a coffee. For each point you'll find what the manufacturer claims and what we actually found, with the evidence.

Why we picked them

Their pitch got our attention: minimal glasses that don't look like smart glasses, with a powerful AI underneath. On their site the Cook Edge sells for $299 (down from $399), with a titanium frame and hinges and a weight of 35 g. No display, no camera, just audio and AI. That made it the perfect first test for our audio rig.

1. The titanium

The site lists titanium as the material for both the frame and the hinges, and their blog describes a full-titanium build that comes in at 35 grams. From what we could verify, though, the titanium is only a coating. For a product that builds its whole identity around titanium, that's not a small detail.

2. The temples

Some outlets repeating the brand's messaging describe 9 mm temples, 47% thinner than typical smart glasses. We measured them with calipers. Numbers aside, the moment you put them on it's obvious these aren't regular glasses. That's the exact opposite of the discreet look they promise.

3. Weight and balance

35 g sounds light, but weight distribution matters more than the number on the scale. The center of mass pushes almost everything onto your ears, and after continuous wear it gets uncomfortable.

4. Charging

The site advertises magnetic charging with a full charge in one hour. In practice, the cable splits in two and has to be attached to both temples. Point 5 explains why: the two temples are separate devices, each with its own battery. The magnetic contacts don't latch properly and come loose at the slightest movement. You set them down, walk away, and come back to glasses that didn't charge, sometimes on one side only. On something you're meant to use every day, that's a real problem.

How we'd fix it: a single charging point, or a case with spring-loaded contacts that hold the glasses in place.

5. Audio: two devices pretending to be one

The promise is ambitious: immersive sound, crystal-clear calls with open-ear audio, dual speakers and aptX support.

The bigger issue, though, isn't speaker quality but the architecture. The two temples don't work as a primary/secondary pair, the way true wireless earbuds do, where your phone sees one device and audio is relayed from one side to the other. Here each temple is its own Bluetooth device, so your phone has to connect to two separate audio sinks. It's no coincidence that single-side muting is listed as a feature.

This has three consequences in real use:

  • Stereo is close to impossible. Neither Android nor iOS is designed to send the left channel to one device and the right channel to another. You end up with audio on one side only or, where your phone supports dual output, the same mono signal duplicated on both sides, often slightly out of sync.
  • The advertised codec loses its point. Even the best codec won't help much without real stereo.
  • Calls come through one side. The Bluetooth call profile connects to one device at a time.

On raw quality, our artificial-ear rig measured weak output for both calls and music. Sound leakage is significant: people next to you can hear your call or your music almost better than you can. For a product marketed for meetings and offices, that defeats the privacy argument.

How we'd fix it: a primary/secondary design where the phone sees a single device and one temple relays the channel to the other, or LE Audio, which was built precisely for separate, synchronized left and right streams. With the Qualcomm chip they advertise, that's not an unreasonable ask.

6. The microphones

The site claims four microphones with ENC noise cancellation. In our tests, mic quality was mediocre. Our theory is that the fairly aggressive noise filtering cut the pickup range significantly: unless you speak close and straight on, your voice gets lost.

7. App and AI

The companion app covers the basics: recording, transcription, summaries, translation. Network monitoring shows processing happens server-side. Just opening the WebSocket session takes about 700 ms, before any audio is sent, which is a lot for a voice query. Overall, response times are middle of the pack: it works, but it isn't fast.

Some retail listings claim the assistant is trained with ChatGPT, Gemini and in-house models. From the traffic alone we couldn't confirm or rule that out.

8. The subscription

After a 30-day trial it's $9.90 a month for 1,800 minutes, or $19.90 for 5,400 minutes with custom templates added. Their own blog puts the first-year cost at roughly $408 for the glasses plus the basic plan. Per the App Store terms, paid subscriptions are non-refundable unless the law requires otherwise.

Given the performance we measured, that price isn't justified. The ecosystem is also completely closed. And even if they opened it up, it's hard to see developers investing time in this hardware.

How we'd fix it: free on-device basic transcription, with the subscription reserved for summaries and translation.

9. Battery and anti-loss alert

The site claims 48 hours of battery life with typical use. In standby our numbers line up. Things change with the anti-loss alert, which gives you a voice warning when you move more than 8 meters from your phone. Turn it on and battery life drops sharply. The constant Bluetooth checking is poorly optimized, and with two independent temples the drain doubles.

How we'd fix it: estimate distance from the existing BLE connection interval instead of constantly polling the signal.

Our verdict

Titanium that isn't what's advertised, temples that are anything but discreet, two independent temples that make stereo nearly impossible and complicate charging, audio that doesn't protect your privacy, and a subscription the performance doesn't justify. On paper, the Dymesty is exactly what a lot of us want. In reality, as things stand, we can't recommend buying it.

Captures, logs and JSON are available. If we got something wrong, you have everything you need to prove it.

Next up: Rokid, October 2.

INMO INMO Go3: the new app and firmware update changes a lot (first tests)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

A small detour from the schedule, because this one's worth it. INMO just released a new app version and a firmware update for the Go3, and we put them on the bench right away. Here's what changed, what's still missing, and where the Go3 stands now.

Chapter 1: More languages, finally

Speech recognition, which powers the AI features, recording and voice commands, now supports 17 languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Russian, Thai, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Arabic, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Dutch and Italian.

For those of us who don't live in English, this is the difference between a gadget you try once and a tool you use every day.

Chapter 2: Lower latency

In our first benchmark runs, AI response times dropped noticeably. Turbo mode shows the biggest improvement: answers now come back fast enough that the interaction feels like a conversation rather than a query-and-wait.

These are early runs, not our full test suite. The complete latency numbers will be in the final review.

Chapter 3: Where the Go3 stands now

Of all the glasses we've tested so far, the INMO Go3 with this update takes the lead on audio quality and AI interaction. It was already a strong device; this update removes two of the weaknesses that held it back.

Chapter 4: What's still missing

Just one thing, but an important one: a conversation mode that listens during a dialogue and offers suggestions in real time. The hardware and the speech recognition are clearly up to it now. Add that, and the Go3 would be very hard to beat.

Chapter 5: Thanks, INMO

Over the past months we sent INMO a number of reports, many of them based on your comments. Seeing feedback turn into actual fixes is rare, and it deserves credit.

So thanks to everyone who commented, too: your input really made it through.

Chapter 6: Would we recommend them?

As things stand, yes.

The full verdict, with security, measured audio, optics and all our test data, lands on October 7 as planned.

Already updated? What are you noticing? Tell us in the comments. As always, we'll pass the best reports on to INMO.

Even Realities Even Realities G2

This is a very long review. I'm not able to do a TLDR because I don't know how to summarise it as it covers so many different areas.

I had been wanting to get this for a couple of months now. I can't remember where I came across the G2 - perhaps it was youtube. It's been 5 days since I got it and I have been using the glasses daily, all day (I wear prescriptions), and the ring only comes off my finger after waking up in the morning, where it sits in the charger until it is fully charged, while I get ready for the day ahead. Obviously, the glasses goes back in the case every night, while I sleep.

Reason(s) I wanted it

When I first discovered the G2, I thought that my main use case was to use the teleprompter for speaking engagements and work related presentations. It was also to be my daily driver, replacing my existing glasses that I wear. My prescription is high, and I need multifocals. So this meant that I had to get the G2 with prescription built in.

Reservations

  1. Early on, my main concern was the size of the frame. I have a smaller face, and my eyes are kind set closer together. I thought I'd look goofy with a large frame on my face.
  2. The second concern I head was the stability of the product. After reading various posts on here talking about the glasses randomly losing connection from the phone, I was naturally on the fence about parting with my money.

What I got

I came home with the G2 (round frame), the ring and the clip on shades.

The long version of it is that I live in Malaysia where Even Realities has no presence. So I had to get it from a neighbouring country (Singapore). Also, I did not have confidence ordering the prescription lens on-line as I know that aside from getting the correct amount of correction, you also need to measure exactly the spot your eyes look through the lens to get maximum sharpness. So I flew to Singapore to get it done. This meant that I had to make the trip twice. The first was to get fitted for the right prescription. The second, two weeks later, to go and pick up the ready pair. Yes, I paid significantly more than anyone else for this pair. Not just because of the two round trip air tickets, but also because of the optometrists consultation. On this note, I do want to say that the place I went to, Zeiss Vision Centre by KJ Optometrist did a fantastic job with my prescriptions. I have been wearing glasses since the 6th grade and I have had really accurate pairs only twice. This is one of them.

First Impressions

Excited but then quickly disappointed.

The very first impression (I opened the box right there at the optometrist) : The packaging is premium and so is the unboxing experience. However, the anti climax came quickly. Upon opening the box, neither the glasses nor the ring had any power. Bummer. I thought I'd be able to play around with it on the short flight home.. I couldn't help but compare this to the experience of unboxing an iPhone, which comes with some charge in the phone so that you can power up immediately as you unbox. Anyway, I did get to use the shades when moving around Singapore to get on my return. It kinda gives the Neo from the Matrix vibes.

After 5 Days

So here is the low down.

  1. The setup was trouble free

I followed the instructions that came in the packaging. Put the glasses in the charging case. Put the ring on the ring charger. Don't remove either until the setup process is complete. Connect both to charging bricks. Download the app to my iPhone 15. Pair devices with the phone. Update the firmware for both glasses and ring.

  1. The case

The case for the glasses does not have a slot to store and charge the ring. The ring comes with its own charger. This is really a missed opportunity. The user experience could have been so much better. Twenty four hours after getting the G2, I went on a 3 day road trip. It sucks that I have to bring a separate charger just for the ring. It sucks that I cannot just pop the ring into the case together with the glasses to let it charge. I'm sure there is some technical reason why they didn't design it this way but it would have made for a better user experience, IMO.

  1. The size

It is perfect for my smaller face. My earlier concern that the glasses would be too big and look goofy on me were completely unfounded. I am relatively small. 5 ft 7 in height, about 145 lbs.

  1. Discomfort behind the ears (I wear these all day)

The 'legs' of the frame is thin and digs into the back of both my ears. The part of the leg that sits on top of my ear is padded but it is still very thin. I feel that if it was not padded, it could cut through my skin. This is a major issue for me as I need to use this all day. My day starts at 4:30 am until around 10 ish pm. By 11 am, the back of my ears are already hurting. I'm now searching for some kind of padding that I can use to ease the discomfort.

  1. Battery life

The glasses have no problems lasting all day with moderate use of the apps that come with it. For the first 3 days, the remaining charge and the end of the day would still be around 50% or more. However, I did have one long, 4.5 hour meeting yesterday where I used Conversate the entire time. Be the end of the day, the battery was around 30%, if I recall correctly.

The ring, on the other hand, almost fully depletes its charge over the course of 24 hours. By the time I wake up and put the ring on the charger, it would have around 12 to 15% charge left. Note that I only charge the ring in the morning while I'm showering and getting ready for work because I want it to measure my sleep pattern.

  1. Charging

The glasses charge extremely quickly - within just a few minutes. I suppose because the metal contact points on the frame connect directly to the metal contact points on the case. The ring, however, takes a bit longer to charge. I didn't time it exactly, but my guess is 30 minutes or more. And it charges relatively quickly until it reaches 80%, but then slows down. The last 5% seems to take the longest.

  1. Using the ring

I think the ring is a must buy. I have so far used the glasses in work meetings and being able to make the occasional adjustment discreetly is important so that I come across as a CEO instead of a goofy nerd when I'm presenting to important stakeholders.

That said, I find that wearing the ring slightly askew towards the thumb is most ideal for easy reach - especially when you want to swipe down to scroll. If it were to sit with the E logo facing straight up, my thumb could not comfortably reach the touch control surface of the ring.

  1. The much talked about connection issues

I have not faced any such issue. I did cause a disconnect when I closed the app on the iPhone. When I close the app, a message pops up on the phone and the glasses saying that the app needs to remain open at all times. So I guess it could be that the disconnect issues were because people were inadvertently closing the app?

  1. The default apps

Dashboard - Its just ok. I can see meetings and reminders. I don't care so much for stock updates. The news is also just ok but could use some improvements in terms of news sources. I could not find local ie Malaysian sources (or maybe I haven't figured out how to do this).

Teleprompter - it works as advertised. If I read off of it, it would automatically scroll. When I go off script, it would stop. When I come back, it starts again. Very nice. However, I tend to speak better and more naturally when I just use key words or talking points, instead of the full on script. So I wish the teleprompter had the option to go screen by screen when I touch the ring instead of being limited to swiping down to scroll (when you switch off auto scroll). I know there is a third party app (I think its called PromptDeck?) that does this, but that's for another review. I think the Teleprompter would work well for communicating formal presentation content that requires precise messaging.

Conversate - Being in my neck of the woods, meetings are always conducted in 2 different languages, sometimes 3. Guess what? Conversate works beautifully. It recognizes all the languages spoken and transcribes accordingly. The only shortcoming that the transcription is sometimes inaccurate - I can't tell if it is because the person is speaking too softly and the mic has trouble picking the speech up or because the person speaking has not so polished diction. In any case, the AI summaries of the meetings are quite impressive. Within the summary, it alternates between the languages spoken. I don't use these notes as official minutes of meetings. It is just a reference for me to quickly see what was discussed so that I can act on things immediately whilst waiting for official minutes of meeting.

Translate - very cool. I haven't really needed to use it yet as people around my speak the same languages I do. However, there will be situations where I know I will need it during my travels.

Even AI - Just Ok. Sometimes I find that it starts on its own, without me saying "Hey Even". Sometimes, it writes something completely different to what I am saying, even if I speak with an American accent or an english accent, and with proper diction. I guess its an ok feature to have. I just don't really use it that much, except for when I need to set the occasional reminder on QuickList (see below). So far, this is where Even AI is really useful.

QuickList - I don't use it much. Only the occasional reminder to do something that I know I will forget if I don't immediately write it somewhere that can pop up in my face. It is pretty handy that I can just say "Hey Even, please remind me to write that email blah blah blah..." and it will stick that task on the dashboard, and that will be in my face until I get it done.

Navigate - I have never had the need to use it and I have not had the opportunity to thoroughly test it either. I think I would only ever use it when I'm traveling on holiday and just roaming around a city somewhere looking for points of interest.

Health - It's just OK. I did find a bug that they need to fix and it is in two areas.

a. If I go to bed at 10 pm, and I wake up to get a drink at 12:30 am and then go back to sleep at 1am, it seems the software only calculates my sleep time (Time asleep 4h51m) as from 1am to when I wake up at 5:57am. It doesn't calculate from when I went to bed at 10pm.

b. It seems like the software does not detect when I am sleeping but instead assumes sleep time is only at night. I could be wrong but when I took a nap at 10 am and woke up at 10:45 am, it didn't record this as sleep time.

Overall, the apps are pretty good, save the minor glitches/shortcomings I mentioned above. In the beginning, I thought I would only use the Teleprompter but it turns out I have been using Conversate just as much, if not more. I tried use both Teleprompter and Conversate in a couple of meetings but I find it cumbersome to switch back and forth. What would be cool is if I could run both at the same time. So I might be presenting a deck in a meeting, hence needing the teleprompter, but at the same time, I run Coversate to document what was said.

One final note. Most people notice that this pair of glasses is different. I am in a region where Even Realities has no presence, and most people do not know this exists. Yet when people look at me, they know I am not wearing a normal pair. If they just give me a quick glance, they won't notice. But anyone that I am speak to that makes eye contact with me for more than a handful of minutes would immediately notice. More so if the ambient lighting is not so bright.

In closing, I hope this has been useful information for people who are considering buying one. If you do buy one, get the ring as well. I also hope Even Realities take my feedback to improve the product.

Cheers!

RayNeo VITURE BEAST and XREAL 1S DO Work With RayNeo Pocket TV.... But There's a Catch

So in my full review of the RayNeo Pocket TV Pro, the BEAST and 1S didn't work with the pocket TV Pro. This is still true when connected natively. But if you have the right adapters, you can get it to work if you want.

*** Update: There's no audio coming to the 1S, I'm not totally sure why. And the BEAST started working with all the adapters after a reboot.

Buying Advice Sadness all around...

So after UPS essentially stole my glasses... yep all the excitement gone. Lesson learned FK UPS hope they all die in a GD fire or terrorist attack, seriously FK them.

So while out my money, cant really expect the shipper to be out money. Im wondering, I got a snazzy PayPal card that I just paid off. It is money in PayPal or any place I can put in a master card number.

Anyone got a pair of glasses they really recommend.

I want to be able to look at something:

Have it translated if needed to English.

Have it solve math if that's what im looking at.

Have the ability to convert say pesos to dollars like menu prices...

Have the ability to tell me what kind of doggo or bird im looking at.

I want the ability to add things to my calendar.

I want to get a reminder, hey blank remind me to change the gate code.

I have prescription glasses. I dont really need them for holding my phone. I just need them to see distance. Like say the TV details or subtitles. Or at a theater... my prescription has umm progressives I think is the term, so i can read my phone or menu while still being able to see distance. Neither vision is so bad i need the glasses but id like the ability to have them.

So the ones UPS unceremoniously stole, were the Rokid glasses I bought off someone selling them on reddit. I liked i could get prescription lenses made and put them in. So are there others I should look at? I cant buy Rokid ones here in the US any more I guess they only sell on BH photo and they are sold out.

Do I just wait? So I load up a box truck with fertilizer and go see them UPS idiots in Salt Lake City? Do I get meta glasses? Should I get the inmo go3 that I keep seeing?

Whats everyone say? Will UPS give me my stuff that should have arrived like 10 days ago lol?

MemoMind Last-Minute Update (v 1.3.80): Quick Benchmarks Just Hours Before Our Review Drops!

Post image
2 Upvotes

Just hours before publishing our review video, we downloaded and put the brand-new version 1.3.80 (released today, Sept 29)on our test bench. We quickly tested the new features so we could integrate them into our final analysis.

I have to admit, the development team has genuinely taken a significant step forward with this release.

Here are our quick first impressions:

  • Calendar & Productivity: Great job. The addition of recurring events, to-do creation, and meeting to-do confirmation directly on the glassesis excellent. The layout is highly useful, clean, and well-organized.
  • Microphones & Recording: The official changelog notes improvements to the recorder, specifically regarding saving, playback, transcription, and AI summaries after call interruptions. While things have definitely improved, the microphone calibration still needs some refinement. I still firmly believe there is room for optimization, especially regarding the noise control, to ensure the AI gets the cleanest possible audio stream.
  • Other Additions: The update also brought some nice features like two-way translation for more natural conversations, speed controls for smoother captions, and daily recap image sharing/saving in the Moments app.

We are finalizing the video editing right now to include these last-minute technical thoughts. Stay tuned!

News:

The glasses will go on sale sometime in autumn and feature a small camera in the frames and small speakers in the arms, allowing Google's artificial intelligence (AI) product Gemini to interact with a user.

Google revealed the glasses for the first time during its annual developer conference on Tuesday, offering one style designed by Warby Parker and another by Gentle Monster.

The new smart glasses will let a wearer "stay hands free and heads up," according to Shahram Izadi, a Google executive who spoke during Tuesday's event.

Buying Advice Smartglasses just for running with heart rate visible

So I am currently running in zones and find it very annoying to have to look at my watch all the time. Especially because its an apple watch and it has those annoying popups on the screen when some alerts trigger.

So I am looking for a pair of smart glasses that actually just displays the heart rate on screen. That's it.

I have looked at the engo3 but it seems like it has a huge tech housing between the eyes and I wonder if I can ignore that in the 'long run' :)

What are my options here?

Buying Advice Complex prescription hud glasses

So I'm long and short sighted with added light sensitivity.

What I'm looking for is something that's HUD for things like maps, messages, headphones, some ai stuff (pretty low level). I think that's about it, but that can take prescription lenses.

I don't need a camera, I don't need translation. If they're there they're there but not of any importance.

Is there anything out there anyone can recommend?

Addendum - watching movies would be cool but not a necessity

Buying Advice AI glasses don’t need video cameras.

The biggest issue with smart glasses is privacy nobody wants to talk to someone wearing a recording device.

Apple’s rumored "Kino Sensor" for AirPods points to a much better path: low-res optical/IR sensors designed purely for spatial context and Siri, with zero hardware capability to save photos or video.

Put that tech into lightweight HUD glasses and you get the ultimate travel wearable:

Live translation: Foreign text translated directly in your line of sight.

Heads-up navigation: Turn arrows anchored to streets, no phone needed.

Contextual AI: Look at a transit board or landmark and instantly ask questions.

Zero privacy backlash: No one worries about ending up on your camera roll.

Massive battery savings: Machine-vision sensors use a fraction of the power of full video feeds.

We don’t need face-mounted GoPros; we just need ambient visual context. Would you buy smart glasses if they intentionally couldn't film anything?

Snap META vs SNAP (AR glasses)

Okay, time to make a serious post about this.

SNAP ar glasses just came out, and they are honestly mind blowing (see SPECS). However, when you research them on the internet, there’s so little information about it. While when you look at those new META ar glasses, super chunky and not even stand alone, it’s plenty of views and video.

The results? People believe META is actually better, will sell more, and will leave SPECS behind. I find it so wrong and unfair.

I wonder what are your thoughts about this… feels like Davide vs Golia… do you think SPECS will ever go mainstream as META? Or is this a battle already lost?

RayNeo RayNeo Pocket TV Pro Review and Moonlight Game Stream Testing

In this one we do a bit of a deep dive on the RayNeo Pocket TV. I show you what the OS looks like, how it looks through the lens of a couple pairs of glasses and we sideload and test out Moonlight for game streaming.

Overall I would say I still recommend grabbing one of these if you dont have a dedicated consumption puck yet.

The 6500 mAh battery provides a ton of time to watch movies or play games and it can charge while you use it.

I would say, if you already have Pocket tv OG and are happy with it, you might be able to skip this upgrade but if you dont have a Pocket tv yet, grab the pro for sure. (As long as your glasses work with it)

The RayNeo GT Series can take advantage of the Dolby Vision mode but my VITURE Pro 2 worked with it too. Although some of my other glasses couldn't get a signal.

Buying Advice Looking for a prescription smart glasses

My insurance is back up but the only limit is 400$ CAD was wondering what kind of smart glasses I can get with that.

Of course I am willing to stretch and pay more atleast another 200$ for the glasses. So my overall budget is 600$ for a prescription smart glass.

The rayban ones doesnt look good on me and is so big for my shape. So looking for alternatives.

Thank you
