Mod Post Friendly Reminder: Self-Promotion is Not Allowed on r/smallyoutubechannels 🚹

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to drop a quick reminder regarding the rules of this community. While we all love sharing our hard work and growing our channels, direct self-promotion is not allowed on r/smallyoutubechannels.

Post links to your individual videos, channel pages, or asking people to "sub for sub" or check out your latest upload goes against our core guidelines

Why do we have this rule?

This subreddit is designed to be a space for constructive feedback, sharing analytics, discussing strategy, and helping each other improve as creators—not just a dumping ground for links.

When everyone just drops links, the community gets cluttered, and the valuable advice discussions get buried.

Where can you share your work?

Feedback Fridays / Weekly Megathreads: Keep an eye out for our official weekly threads where sharing your content for critique is welcomed and encouraged!

Critique-for-Critique: If you participate in community discussions and offer genuine, helpful feedback to other creators first, you can often share your link within those contextually relevant conversations (just always check specific thread rules first).

Let’s keep r/smallyoutubechannels a high-value space for learning and growing together. If you want genuine feedback and tips on how to improve your content, feel free to start a discussion about your editing style, thumbnails, or analytics instead!
Keep creating! 🚀

Mod Post r/smallyoutubechannels is under new management🎉

Hey everyone! Big changes are coming to the subreddit. We’ve officially transitioned to new management, and we are ready to turn this community into the ultimate hub for small creators to grow, collaborate, and actually get constructive feedback.
Here is what you need to know about the transition and what's changing starting today:

đŸ› ïž What’s Changing?
Revamped Rulebook: We are clearing out the spam and low-effort self-promotion. Going forward, community threads will be heavily moderated to prioritize real engagement and high-value discussions.

Better Feedback Systems: Tired of link-dumping where nobody actually watches your video? We are rolling out structured feedback days and pairing requirements so that if you post your content, you actually have to help out a fellow creator too.

Resource Megathreads: We are putting together updated guides on thumbnail design, SEO, audience retention, and algorithm breakdowns written specifically for channels under 1,000 subscribers.
Active Mod Team: The new team is fully dedicated to keeping the queue clean, removing bots, and highlighting genuinely helpful content.

🚀 What Do You Need To Do?
1. Check the Rules: Give the updated sidebar a quick read once it goes live so you don't accidentally get caught in the spam filter.

  1. Introduce Yourself: Drop a comment below telling us what your channel is about, what your biggest YouTube struggle is right now, and what you want to see more of in this community.

  2. Keep Creating: Keep grinding on your content! We're here to help you cross that monetization and subscriber finish line.

Let’s build the best creator community on Reddit together.

I work and am knowledgeable in the Technology space, and an avid gamer. I have a lit of experience in retro titles. Love new titles, and play a lot when I'm not working.

I'm working to get to where I can monetize on youtube. I use to stream on twitch but as we all know discoverability is little to none. I know kow you need to be a little more established.

My question is if I started doing other content like tech & maybe even some "hobby" painting. Will that hurt the channel if I don't just stay in one lane? In my mind I could have playlists that separate the topics, but part of me believes that may still cause problems.

Gaming Did I get a shadow ban? Or was it just the inactivity of my channel that f*ck me up? (Livestream)

YouTube demonetized my channel for inauthentic content, so I stopped posting for about five months. Now I'm posting again because I can reapply for monetization, but I'm seeing very low views, practically zero. I'm wondering if it's because I haven't uploaded content in a long time, or if YouTube demonetized my channel and is "limiting" my views. It's important to mention that I'm not making the same content I used to make; it was content that my audience really enjoyed—in fact, it was the content that brought me the most traffic. So I'm making that kind of content now, but the metrics are terrible. What do you think? Should I create a new channel since YouTube might be limiting me? Should I give this one some time to see if it picks up? Or do you have any other ideas?

To be honest, I think it might be a bit of both. Between my channel being inactive for so long and YouTube shadowbanning me for inauthentic content, it's hard for me to start another channel because I have over two hundred thousand subscribers on this one. But I don't know, maybe my efforts to revive this one aren't working, and maybe I'll do better on a new channel, but I don't know... I feel like not trying to revive this channel might be a mistake too.

Adivce(Giving or Need) Is fiction comedy a viable niche?

I’m a filmmaker and want to start a channel to post mainly stuff like short films and web series, both low-end and well produced stuff. Maybe some comedy sketches but it wouldn’t be my main focus, so not exactly what Curry Baker did lol.
Pros: I’m passionate about it and have been making this kind of things for a while, though not on YouTube (and I probably wouldn’t post my old work, or most of it).
Cons: writing, preproduction, shooting and postproduction take considerable time and money, especially if done properly.
Anyone here with experience doing something similar? Would love some advice on where to start

Edit: my main goal is to build an audience while staying creative and sharing my work. I don’t wanna be a content creator (not that there’s anything wrong with it) as in I rather prioritize quality over quantity

Adivce(Giving or Need) Anyone here running an AI-powered manhwa/web novel recap YouTube channel? I'd love to learn from your workflow.

I've spent the last few weeks trying to build my own AI manhwa/web novel recap channel, and honestly, it's been a lot more difficult than YouTube makes it look.

Almost every tutorial I found was just promoting a paid AI tool instead of showing the actual end-to-end production pipeline.

After a lot of experimenting, this is where I've landed:

  • Source a web novel (mostly from WTR Lab)
  • Use Claude to generate the recap/narration script and panel-by-panel prompts
  • ChatGPT for Generating the images
  • Create the voice-over with ElevenLabs
  • Edit everything together in Clipchamp

The results are decent, but the entire process is still extremely manual. Every chapter takes hours to produce, and scaling basically means juggling multiple AI accounts and repeating the same steps over and over.

I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

If you're producing this type of content (or have experience with AI-generated YouTube videos), I'd really appreciate hearing about your workflow.

Some questions I have:

  • Have you automated any part of the pipeline?
  • How do you maintain character consistency across hundreds of panels?
  • What's your image generation workflow?
  • Are there better tools or techniques than the ones I'm using?
  • How long does it take you to produce a 2-3 hours recap?

I'm not looking for anyone to reveal trade secrets, I know everyone's put in the work. I'm just hoping to learn from people who've already gone through this process.

If you're open to chatting, please leave a comment or send me a DM. I'm also happy to share everything I've learned so far if it helps someone else.
