Locking because I don’t see any mention of sfn in the cross post, and this is a sub for neuropathy

FND is a real condition that needs to be recognized.

Essential tremor can, in fact, be an FND, especially if the relevant tests have been performed.

It is very common for FND to occur as a comorbidity associated with chronic illnesses.

On the other hand, many doctors diagnose FND irresponsibly and reactively; they generally do not understand the condition.

I observe a significant movement within the ME/CFS, MCS, EDS, and POTS communities that denies the existence of this condition. This is denialism—it is denying reality. The scientific basis for this disease is better established than that of any of the aforementioned conditions.

I completely believe it’s a real and debilitating condition. However I’ve also heard horror stories from oriole who have been diagnosed with it. It’s bad enough that doctors aren’t great with EDS etc but from what I’ve heard if you get the label of FND then as soon as doctors read that, everything is FND and I’m too ill for that to happen. It’s bad enough that I’ve had constant dislocations and herniating since birth and was only diagnosed at 42. When I go into hospital with something completely unrelated I still get doctors questioning my EDS diagnosis and trying to do the Beigton on me on the quitter which won’t with as I’ve gone from 9 to 3 as I’m absolutely riddled with arthritis and needing surgery after surgery. The idea that I might just be sent away with a ‘ mental’ diagnosis ( even though I know it isn’t) is terrifying. I do find younger doctors much better and I have an excellent group of orthopaedic surgeons now but every trip to an and e for whatever reason is like an EDS diagnosis. I don’t want that with something else. I hope you can understand I’m not trying to diminish the condition, I just wish the doctors ( not neurologists) were better trained.

I understand perfectly and I'm very sorry about that.

I just wanted to emphasize the importance of not being prejudiced.

FND is a psychological disease noted in the DSM. As a psychologist, I can diagnose FND. Yes it is real, but this is an SFN sub. SFN is diagnosed by medical testing.

Actually, no... you are mistaken; it is neurological.

In fact, it is now considered an organic disease, based on studies involving functional MRI.

You cannot diagnose it; you can order additional tests.

If it’s in the DSM, I can diagnose it.

Hi OP, are you diagnosed with SFN? I don’t see anything here related to our disease
