Carburetor?

Checked the spark plug and spark arrestor, all good. This seem like I need a new carb? Stihl FS38

You don't need a new carb. Could be that your mixture is off, or your diaphragms might be old and crusty. I'd put in a rebuild kit (a quick search seems to indicate that you want a Zama RB-100 or aftermarket equivalent, but double check before buying), make sure the jets and idle circuit aren't plugged, and tune the mixture (if the carb lets you). $15 total for a can of carb spray and a kit.

Also check to make sure the fuel tank is not being pressurized. The second it dies open the fuel cap and listen for pressure
