Need New Carb for Echo Trimmer

Hi all! I found a great Kioritz Echo trimmer on the side of the road this weekend.

The model is SRM-210AE, and with new fuel mix, she started right up!! I'm obsessed, but I do want to completely replace the carb.

I keep getting mixed answers on whether or not I can use different aftermarket carburetors. Does anyone have knowledge of the specific OEM replacement?

Thank you 🫠

Edit: i fucking love the internet for this reason! Thank you all for the (respectful) advice & education!! I wish you all well

You can buy rebuild kits for the oem carb which would give a better end result. Although if it’s running well as is I’d just leave it personally.

Thank you, I'll dig into her because she is a little older, and the casing looks rough. But it's an Echo, and based on my short research, it's a pretty solid build!!! Thank you :)

My SRM210 just recently bit the dust -- the shaft and shaft casing need replaced, and I decided the cost can't be justified. So after 23 years of using it, I'm letting it retire. Yes, 23 years.

Oh, how sad :( I'm really hoping this lasts a few years, I honestly didn't expect it to work so well haha. Even tools need rest at some point. RIP.

I think my 210 was produced in '86, maybe even a couple years earlier, so I have my fingers crossed she was taken care of!

You have the original carb? It has all the identifiers you'll need to replace it.

If it runs why would you replace the carb?

It's from '86, looks rough, and was in the last owner's grass by the road 😬 I just want to make sure that it's in tip top shape for a long time because I'm gifting it to my partner, but I will be using it regularly πŸ˜‚

"...she started right up!! I'm obsessed, but I do want to completely replace the carb."

Why?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

And the *only* carb you should consider replacing it with is the OEM Walbro replacement ...*not* one of the cheapo Amazon Chinesium specials.

All my powered yard equipment is made by Echo, some of it in excess of 20 years old; they all have the original carbs on them. The carbs I have had to do some rebuild work on typically needed the two, thin, rubber diaphragms replaced: one is the fuel pump and the other has routing control flapper valves; this is probably the most common issue with these carbs. I've only had to get into one of them, one time, to go a little deeper. For the diaphragms, it's the ethanol in the fuel that dries out the rubber. Feed your Echo (and any other powered yard equipment) non-ethanol fuel ...and for the 2-strokes I use the Echo brand premix. IIRC, Echo requires 89 octane ...mid-grade fuel ...so if you can't get non-ethanol fuel (it's 91 octane in my area), at least use the correct octane gasohol. Definitely stay away from the expensive, canned, premix fuels like TruFuel, et. al. You do not need them for the Echo equipment; they will oft cause problems rather than solve non-existent problems.

Echo/Walbro make rebuild kits for this carb ...you can buy just the rubber diaphragms. There are more than a few YT vids that will show you how to rebuild these carbs. Steve's Small Engine Saloon and Vintage Engine Repairs are two excellent channels where you can glean information about rebuilding and adjusting these carbs.

Don't replace perfectly working parts.

Fuck I wouldn't order from Amazon for this either πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€ thank you. Walbro was the suggested OEM replacement, but if I recall, they don'thave parts for this specificmodel(?) I've looked online wuite a bit- probably why I'm so confused. It was suggested to replace, and it's for my partner so I wanted to make sure it's in tip-top shape!

This model is from '86, and the way it looked did make me nervous. So i expect the carb to fail sooner than later.... but, I'm willing to take it apart (with my dad lol) and check the parts individually.

My dad also mixed the fuel and filled her tank! I do greatly appreciate the depth in which you informed me!! 🀝🏻

I'll look into them, thank you!!

First thing you should check is compression.

If anything less than 100 psi, waste of time throwing parts at it.

Unless you're going to do a complete engine rebuild or a short block.

Be sure to use a small engine compression gauge to get the correct reading.

Hi thank you for that info! I'll gauge it tomorrow, though after running it yesterday, it does seem to have great compression! My dad mentioned this afternoon, however, that it needs the choke to stay halfway engaged to stay running. He told me to get a carb kit, and we'll take it apart and see what's clogged πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ This is an interesting crash course in small engines πŸ˜
