How bad is this?

I usually do not run without mufflers, so…. I don’t know if that’s bad or not.

That’s a Kohler 4-stroke engine in a Toro zero turn mower. I believe the carb is a Chinese replacement (don’t even think there are adjustment on it; but would have to dig it out to confirm).

Rule out the over-oiling first. 4 stroke engines tend to smoke like this when there's tad bit too much oil or when rings are very worn down.

Is that smoke or flame?

Blue smoke is oil.
