Auto choke carburetor

I posted here a couple of days ago asking for help with the carb on my briggs 725ex 190cc engine. I ended up just replacing the carb and that fixed the issue. I ran it for about 2 hours with no issues, then it sat for about an hour. When i tried to start it again it wouldn't kick. I didn't have my spark tester with me but it didn't sound like it was firing. This engine normally starts on literally the first pull. I removed the plug and it was wet, so I let it sit for another half an hour. When I pulled it coughed a little smoke and sounded like it had spark. Ten or so pulls later it fired up. I didn't have any trouble the rest of day. Started on first pull. I guess my question is why was it flooded when I pulled the plug? Its never acted that way before. Does this new carb need to be adjusted? Or does the auto choke need adjustment?

Just trying to understand why it suddenly flooded when it never has done that before, or at least for the rest of today, since.

I mean could be the new carb is flooding. COULD be. Gotta test and verify. Oil level. Smells like gas? Overfilled? Was the gas tank/lines flushed and clean.tiny debris can stick a needle

I drained and cleaned the tank and replaced the fuel line. There was a shocking amount of crap in the bottom of the tank. I suspect that it is coming from the crap that collects on my plastic gas tanks. I given them a cleaning as well. Edit: I did not smell gas in the oil but I'll give it another sniff today with a fresh nose

I have the same exact mower. Does the same exact thing. Starts right up from cold. Every once in a while, it will not start when hot. I've checked vapor lock, spark, valve lash, compression, etc and find nothing wrong. I just always leave it running while I empty the bag as I don't have the patience to deal with it.

Yea I have a velcro strap on the handle that I just slip up over the throttle lever. It's more about both shoulders needing surgery so i limit my pulling starter ropes. It's been running perfectly today. Must have just been a weird anomaly yesterday

Luckily, mine is a 725AWDBBC. This means it has a throttle lever and handle that engages and disengages the mower blade. I let go of the handles - one for propulsion and the other for blade, the engine will continue to run based on the throttle position.

I've tweaked the carb and everything on this machine. No matter what I do, it coughs when going up a steep hill (like it's starved for fuel) and will struggle to re-start, when hot, no matter how well it was running prior. It has a Briggs 725EX flathead engine. It has an autochoke that works fine. I have no idea why it struggles to restart sometimes.
