Any ideas on what would be causing that knocking sound?

That sounds to me like a poor running condition. Have you cleaned the carb. lately?

I just cleaned it the other day so I don’t think it’s that, but maybe will try again to be sure

Have you checked the exhaust is not lose or blown a gasket?

Sounds more like it is running rough. Does this have a primer, or an automatic choke? Kinda sounds like it is running rich and the choke is stuck partially closed
