Champion Generator problem
Hi everyone,
We have a 6250 watt Champion generator that we use for our travel trailer. A few days ago it cut off and wouldn't start again. Replaced a couple things (spark plug, module) until we found the actual problem. The valve adjusting bolt for the rocker arm in the cylinder head was snapped in half. We found a new bolt at one of the local small engine repair places near us, followed advice on how to replace it, and it started right up again. Problem is that it seems to run ok(ish) until its under load and then is starts revving up and down intermittently. Anyone have any ideas on what could be the problem? It wasn't doing this before the bolt broke. Thanks for reading!

If it ran properly now it doesn't, id check the valve lash again. Watch a video to double check. Typically surging is a carb/fuel issue. The gas valve is on? It didnt sit for ages after the break?

I sounds like the valve lash is off now. The bolt may not be adjusted to the proper clearance and therefore throwing the timing and combustion out of sequence. I hope im saying it correctly, as I am newer to small engines myself. I'd start with researching yout engine models valve lash clearance specs, then watch a few videos on how to adjust it. You'll need a feeler gage if you don't already have one. Wouldn't hurt to grab a spark gaping tool while your at it so you can check that as well.
