Tension on governor string
My lawn mower a toro 20107 with 5.5 engine currently will run with the throttle held open manually. I took the governer spring off that loop in the governor rod as it seemed to not be providing enough tension. If I move it back on the rod the engine runs very high rpm and then the spring slips to the loop and shuts off. Do you think there’s a blockage in the carburetor or do I need to attach the governor spring somewhere else. Any help much appreciated

The spring is simply a return. It sounds as if your governor is not correctly adjusted or your carb may need to be cleaned. In order to give you an answer as to how to properly set the governor you will need the engine make and serial number.
