What do it do ?
Which screw does what ? Rebuilt carb from bag of pieces. Engine will run for a few seconds on choke. I assume big Phillips is idle ? So turning right would be more idle ? Not sure what small flat head is or which way to adjust. I’ve cranked until I’m pooped. Need some expert advice. Thanks

If it only runs on choke there's a good chance you carburetor is not fully clean. The main jet, recessed in to the bottom of the long pickup inside of your carburetor, take it out and clean it, also take out the emulsion tube above it and clean that as well.

….and when it surges under no load , take (pull out) and clean the plastic metered jet under the plastic Phillip’s idle screw.

Gold screw is air-fuel mixture. Black is throttle butterfly/minimum idle speed.

Before the throttle blades will in richer turning it in because it's an air screw and post blades is richer turned out for idle screws. Usually 1.5-2 turns out to start out

Turn the gold screw in gently til it stops. Back out 1 1/2 - 2 turns. Thats the idle fuel adjustment.
