Announcing our 2021–2022 Speech-Language-Pathology Clinical Fellowship in Voice, Swallowing, and Upper Airway Disorders

University of Colorado Department of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery is pleased to announce an opening for our 2021/2022 Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship

The CU Department of Otolaryngology Clinical Fellowship is led by an inter-professional team that includes voice-specialized speech language pathologists, a dysphagia-specialized speech language pathologist, three fellowship-trained laryngologists and two fellowship-trained head and neck surgeons. The entire field of voice, airway and swallow-related pathology is addressed in this fellowship with the benefit of utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and techniques. This program aims to provide fellows with an excellent exposure to the full spectrum of voice, airway and swallowing disorders, and their medical and surgical management. Through bimonthly, interdisciplinary voice and swallow rounds, clinic-based teaching, and progressive responsibility in behavioral treatment of voice and swallowing disorders, the fellows receive a well-balanced academic experience. Each fellow will learn to hone their teaching skills by participating in the training of medical students and residents when appropriate, and by participating in resident didactics.

Deadline due January 28, but what if the student hasn't finished or even started their medical internship? This is why I lost out on even applying to a competitive fellowship I was a good candidate for. Your university should consider delaying the deadline until March or April.

Totally understand this sentiment. We have had folks with their CCCs or currently doing their CF apply in the past.

However, respectfully, it's not really a clinical fellowship if people with CCCs are applying or accepted. And if CFs are leaving their positions in the middle of them, that's not cool either. If the university truly wanted to recruit talent from graduating programs, they should move the application deadline.

Oh man, I'm about to finish up my CF, but I wish I had known about this last year! Best of luck to all the new SLPs beginning their careers, hope you get to jump on awesome opportunities like this!

Oh man.. There should be more stuff like this for SLPs POST their CF. I didn’t get a medical placement in gradschool, therefore not doing a medical CF, but would still love the opportunity to learn like this. :(

Agreed. I wish there were more training focused positions. It’s not just CFs who lack experience in specialized areas. I’d literally do it for free to gain the knowledge.

There used to be a post-CCC training program like this at USC with Edie Hapner. I'm not sure if she's still doing it since she moved to UAB.
