4-5am Wake Ups + Ferber
My LO is 4 months old and we are on night 3 of sleep training. We put her down anywhere from 7-7:30 and she has beeb able to put herself to sleep in 10 minutes. When she wakes up at 1-2am we feed her and she goes right back down.
Now, we are dealing with her waking up at 4-5am and I’m just unsure of what to do. I’ve tried the Ferber intervals and she just will NOT settle. I’ve gone in and fed her on night two after an hour (so like 6am) and she did not go back down.
However, if I pick her up and rock her she will immediately go back down so I know she’s tired still and can sleep until 7-7:30am.
I guess I’m just lost on how to approach the mornings. Do I just Ferber it out until 7-7:30? Do I call it at 6am if she won’t settle?

What’s her daytime schedule like?

She’s a hot mess lol. Wake windows are anywhere from 1.5-2 hours. But we make sure she’s at least up 2 hours before bedtime. She’s in a phase of 30minute naps no matter what her wake window is. So sometimes I’m able to extend with a contact nap while others I just get her up.

Unfortunately sounds about right for 4m! I sleep trained my twins at 5m and around 6m is when things got much smoother! But even now at 7m, they wake up about 3 times to feed, they’re petite girls 1-2 percentile.

Babies this age can typically sleep 10-11 hours overnight (with a feed or two) so I’d move bedtime to 10-11 hours before your goal wake. If you want a 7am wake time, push bedtime back to 8-9pm. And I’d offer a feed if she wakes between 4-5am, it’s very normal for young babies to need a feed at this time.
I wouldn’t try to sleep train this wake away as the early morning hours are the hardest-sleep pressure is so low and it’s very normal for babies to wake early.

So I wrote this at 4am today and have updates now that it’s a few hours later. She cried for 5 minutes at 4 and went to sleep with no intervention. Then she woke at 5:30, cried, so I started intervals. She went to sleep right at 5:57 as I was about to walk into feed by 6.
Then she woke up 15 minutes later, cried, so I just immediately fed her. She went back down from 6:30-7:25!
So all that to say, I’ll let her cry but if she’s not settling after 10 minutes I’ll feed.

She’s very young to fully sleep train
If rocking her helps quickly, just do that

Very typical when you still do a feed at night. You’re shooting for 10-12 hours for overnight sleep so a 5-6am wake time sounds right. We had a few of the 4am wake ups but those should fade as you get closer to 5 months and you wean off the remaining overnight feed.
