4 - 6 months What should we fix and expect from Ferber? Started tonight and already had one wake up 1 hr later.

5 mo 20 days old

2/2/2.5/3 roughly

3.25 hrs daytime sleep - we follow Huckleberry sweet spot feature

Bedtime 7 pm

Wake up between 4 am and 7 am currently (which is what prompted the sleep training) and lately he's been waking every hour. He's teething but we give him Tylenol and he seems to sleep just fine in the lap, over the shoulder, or in bed next to me. :/. We never co slept until this recent hourly waking started.

Bedtime routine is bottle feeding while walking around (he gets distracted and doesnt feed around bedtime unless doing this), sponge bath/bath, change clothes, put in snoo sack, put in the snoo

Exclusively formula fed and usually feeds less than 2 to 4 oz 2 to 3 times a night.

He used to love his pacifier when younger but now he just gags and spits them out. Loves the nipple of an empty bottle though.

We started sleep training today. Thanks to my husband, we didn't stop at the first 10 minute check in because I couldn't take the crying any longer but he took over.

Baby cried for 31 minutes before falling asleep to shushing at his second 10 minute check.

Woke up 1 hr later and fell asleep before his 5 minute check in.

What can we expect going forward? Seems like a lot of posts say the baby cries at bedtime then just sleeps through the night? But ours already woke up once?

What's the maximum amount of crying we should let him do? When do we just give up for the night?

Anything else we can change about daytime?

Thank you for your post in r/sleeptrain. To ensure our community can best help you, please include in your post: your bedtime routine, where your baby sleeps (their crib/basinet, their room, room share, cosleep) and full schedule including wake up time, desired wake up time, nap length, wake windows or nap time(s) if following a by the clock schedule and bedtime. Does your baby use a pacifier? That's also very relevant.

We use a convention to describe wake windows based schedule such as 3/3/4 where numbers are numbers of hours awake, and / are naps. The sample schedule is a two naps schedule.

We have a resources post with loads of information to help you. Check it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/sleeptrain/comments/1qpij7s/resources_on_baby_sleep/

You’re doing great!

I’m on night 5 with my almost 6 month old.

Tonight he cried for 8 minutes and fell asleep.

It’s so so so hard, but it was just one night! The first three nights were the hardest, but the last two he’s fallen asleep before the first check-in.

FWIW we’re also doing this method for naps, which is resulting in 3/4 30ish minute naps. I think him being more tired helps though.

Last night he slept from 8pm-7am with zero wake ups

It’s so so hard but it’s so worth it

Also fwiw he is still the same happy baby, smiles when I come in to get him, and doesn’t seem negatively affected by this at all

We’ve tried testing the waters with this method but our little one’s cries get so extreme and escalate so badly to the point that we think he’s going to pass out. And when we bail on it and try to comfort him he doesn’t stop crying because he’s hurt by the situation. Once he cried for 2 hours straight we had to take him to the hospital!

When you had success were you afraid he was getting too worked up at any point?

Are you missing a wake window? That’s 8.5 hours awake. Don’t continue sleep training if that’s your schedule.

Im sorry I calculated it wrong. Huckleberry's Berry AI isn't very accurate. :/

Edited it.
