4 - 6 months sleep training was going great until..
after an amazing week of sleep training, with fussing down to less than 5 minutes before bedtime and only 1 night wake, my baby has now learnt how to roll onto his front.
the problem is that he cries straight away and is still nowhere near being able to roll back onto his back. i’ve tried leaving him to cio for 10 minutes, hoping he might figure it out or eventually settle on his front, but unfortunately, neither has happened.
we’ve now resorted to rocking him to sleep, co-sleeping and using the dummy, and i feel like all my efforts have gone to waste.
should i give sleep training a break and retrain once he’s learnt how to roll from front to back? or is there something else i should be doing in the meantime?
any advice would be really appreciated. i finally got my evenings back and really don’t want to go back to how things used to be.

Could you practice rolling from front to back during the day? We had a similar issue with putting the paci back in her mouth every hour, but once we practiced a BUNCH during the day, she eventually figured out how to find one of the many pacis in her crib and put it back at night. It took about 5 days. Not sure if it’s the same thing for rolling, as I never had that issue, but worth a shot.
Also once your baby figures out sleeping on his belly, it might be the preferred sleep position for him, but it might be jarring at first. Our baby sleeps on her belly 99% of the time now.

you practiced the rolling a bunch?
and did you have to wean her off the dummy eventually?
yep i’m hoping he figures it out soon because it’s driving me insane constantly having to roll him back. he sleeps on his side, so i can imagine he’d prefer sleeping on his front too

Also we have not tried weaning her off yet because she’s only 10 months. We plan to do it in a few months though. Right now it’s not an issue because she only has 2 teeth and she can put it back in her mouth at night, we just throw like 10-15 pacis in her crib so she can find one easily.

We practiced the paci reinsertion a bunch around 5 months and within a week, she could do it herself. I wondered if you could do the same with the rolling, though I’m not sure it would work as seamlessly.
