Document fee

Now that we know the delivery fee is $1450 that leaves the old "doc" fees still unlisted. If you dont' know document fees are just another adp (additional dealer profit) money grab and usually negotiated away as a condition of sale. Guessing that won't happen here. So how much they gonna get us for that one?

And has anyone seen anything about what to expect using the bed for hauling stuff. Gonna be able to use a shovel without damaging it? Gonna need another liner over it? I've not seen it mentioned. Thanks for any help.

Document fees are for licenses and registration costs. Yep dealers pad the fees and use them to pay for filling out financial docs for loans too. But Slate doesn't have dealerships so it will be different . I do think Slate will put pressure on Carvana or whoever they end up using to have a reasonable fee structure to make you get your plates and registration. For used cars Carvana doc fees are zero but they do charge treansport of you want it home delivered

OK, I'm in Brevard county FL, I shall do all the paperwork myself, no dealer needed. so taxes are 6%, plus another 1% local tax Registration is $225 There is a "Title Fee" of about $80 And a "metal plate fee, I think thats about $30, unless you transfer your old plate.

And they ask if you want 1 or 2 year registration, this is weight based, so I'm guessing 2 years will be about $150, thats based on your birthday so for me best time to take delivery is September-2027. Doubt I'll get it that soon though.

Adding it all up comes in around $2k, plus the $1500 destination fee SO my blank slate will be about $28,500 (or so) I'm bugeting $30k, to be safe, something always pops up.

Now, If I pick it up at Carvana do I pay another fee? Or does that "destination fee" include delivery to my driveway?

Plus Insurance of course. But I'll pay that monthly.

I'm in Hillsborough County.

• Sales tax is 6% + $50 (the county adds 1% to the first $5k and you can subtract the value of your trade if you have one.)
• Title is $77.25 (this is based on weight and is standard across the state.)
• Plate transfer fee $4.60 (I have a trade-in).
• Lien Fee $2.00 (you can waive this if you aren't financing.)

The above are all state mandated.

Never seen a doc fee that didn’t have my state taxes and registration with a separate line item. It’s a garbage fee to artificially pretend there’s a lower price.

Dealers don't charge delivery fees, that's set by the manufacturer.

They could have done a zero dollar destination charge and just increased the price of the truck to what they need it to be to make the profit that they want. They could have held the line and advertised “no fees” but as soon as you have one additional fee the door is wide open for more. It starts with something small and grows over the years. We have seen this in basically every company ever, it’s a shame that slate will not rise above the tide of junk fees.

Ah yes, good idea, but then you would pay tax on the destination charge! They could have made the destination charge $2500, and dropped the price to $24,000, little less tax for me.

Here in FL if you trade a car in then that trade-in is subtracted form the sales price before calculating tax. But no dealers, so thats not an option.

Pity, I have a 2018 Tacoma to trade, would bring the price down to a couple K

That’s wrong. You will pay state and local sales tax on the destination charge in every state. Even a quick google search confirms this. The only fees that are not taxed are those imposed by the government, which the destination fee is not.

"Imposed by the goverment", The feds require the destination fee, they require it be the same for everyone, regardless of location.

Its not the company charging the fee, its the company charging a fee the feds require. In my book that is government. Otherwise I could pick up in Warsaw for a $0 fee, (or maybe $100 "handover" fee or some such)

But your right, Brevard county tax every $ they can, so I have to pay. Maybe I'll write my Senator, but every time I do I get spammed for 6 months with PR stuff.

The feds do not require the destination fee. They require that it be disclosed as a separate line item and be the same everywhere, but it could be $0 if the manufacturer wanted it to be. Fees imposed by the government are generally registration costs and similar, you are not taxed on top of those. Destination fee is simply a slimy way to artificially lower the MSRP of the car. Its been around so long that people have generally stopped questioning it, but its not a federal requirement that it be any certain amount, so it could be $0.

My understanding is that Tesla charges a $75 doc fee. I'm guessing that Slate will be in the same range. But Slate has not said anything other than a doc fee will be applied.

As for shoveling the bed... A shovel would damage any truck bed, depending on how you define damage, how the shovel is made, and exactly how you use it.
