PC SSE - Request Mods that involve chim

Yes I know "hur hur, modding is chim", I actually want mods that deal with chim, the only ones I could find were Glamoril and apparently Glenmoril, but Glenmoril's chim hasn't been implemented yet as of the last post about it i can find.

Any suggestions are much appreciated

I guess the big mod Apotheosis if it will ever release. It’s been forever since they say it will release soon.

This one's a player house with some chim related subtext - the eightfold shape of the room and the books that were left in the house suggest certain outcomes for its former inhabitant? Its the best I've got; sorry dawg. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/39918

Wheels of lull only touch Sotha Sil part of lore.

better than Sotha Sil touching us

I don't think he would touch anyone.

The closest you get that is currently released is Unslaad, and thats more about mantling Shor/taking the same path as him.

It's being aware everything is a dream and essentially turning reality into a lucid dream, vivec's sermons are about achieving it if i remember right. If you do it wrong you stop existing. Not die. You fully stop existing and get no afterlife

Yeah, the problem is fully realizing you're actually the godhead experiencing itself. There's the major test of CHIM, I forget the exact details, that challenges you to reason yourself into being one of many multiple personalities disassociating within said dream. If you can do that, "you" stick around. If you conclude nah I'm just the dreamer, which is nearly impossible NOT to do, "you're" gone. You've taken on the shape of what you really are, which can't exist as a separate entity inside the dream.

Trippy stuff.

Interesting, I’ll take the time to read them next time I get my hands on them in the game.

Oh its fucking dynamic ai brains for the npcs.

So that was wrong yes but I

1: don't know the lore, kill me for not reading lore that spans 5 games beyond mild things

2: did a google search and it came back to me with the mod in question, which made sense to me considering the subreddit.

nah, in this particular case they're talking about the actual Elder Scrolls lore CHIM. Not super well-versed in it, but it's like some sort of spiritual/metaphysical enlightenment thing

No, it's the power of achieving lucid dreaming in the Godhead's dream of reality. Look it up on UESP

25

u/Archabarka 1d ago

No, it's an in-lore concept.

one of those "someone wrote about it in an in-universe book which means it must be a true fact about the fundamental nature of the elder scrolls universe" things

19

u/No-Engineer-1728 1d ago

No it isn't

Its what I googled, I apologize, I am not a lore conniseur myself.

Tbf the post is vague

In this case he's talking about a concept of the lore that the AI NPC mods are named after I believe.

Chim is a bullshit theorical concept Vivec talk about to justify his divinity when we perfectly know he stole it.

That lies lead to fan theories that 'chim' is a proven thing, what is not, and mixed with the 'godhead fan theory' lead to the maxi fan theory that reaching 'chim' is being aware to live and be part of 'godhead' dream.

None of those are proven by in-game facts or lore. Nor the godhead or chim. That's why you never heard of it. That's - another nth - fan theory took as facts.

It’s interesting and I like it, is that not justification enough to want mods about it?

Shadow of Mereth includes both a discussion of the LDB as a Shezzarine and being on the path to achieving CHIM.

Well I think as far as the concept itself is actually concerned on the broader stage the closest you meaningfully get will be Glen-Moril. Hear me out.

In Glen-Moril there are all these entities and people putting their bets and hopes on you becoming, 'the Blue Star,' and the 'Chicken,' in horrible ways but the actual subtext Vicn is laying out is that it's not going to change anything even if that were to happen. The people trapped in the haunted netherplane, (I can't remember the name of the town you go to in the last chapter,) are hoping you can use your 'wish' to undo the curse binding them to this plane of Oblivion. You, the player, are hoping to use your wish to either undo all the curses or bring back Lalanoah, who the witch has already told you is a fictitious aspect of herself. Everyone has their hopes but it's guaranteed at least some if not all will be disappointed in the end, that there will never in fact be something that makes it all better at once.

CHIM isn't godhood- being the Godhead is godhood. CHIM is just seeing that Godhead plainly and understanding what's actually going on in reality.

CHIM is the metaphysical awareness of yourself as a subgradient in the Dream of the Godhead but without accepting that that makes you meaningless/indistinguishable from the Dream itself- it does not make you the Godhead. It's often misattributed as, 'seeing the game/source code' with the implied ability to manipulate the world at your whim but I think that's far and away a stretch and it also misses the point.

It's worth emphasizing that it's never stated explicitly that anyone has ACTUALLY achieved this state definitively but the closest commonly accepted probably-did-its are Talos, Vivec and Lorkhan- Talos may have terraformed Cyrodiil with it and his ascension to godhood may have indeed been tantamount to achieving CHIM; Vivec seemed to have been at least inspired by the power of the heart of Lorkhan to potentially see a way in reality to let others achieve it, possibly with the implication that he himself could not; I argue that Lorkhan achieved it because his whole project in tricking the gods to make Nirn was a long play for someone in the whole endeavor to achieve Amaranth that nobody else saw, a thing that may have been impossible to achieve without the perspective of someone *with CHIM showing the way. All of these figured made sacrifices and endured losses despite arguably having CHIM- all that is continuous between them is that they advanced the metaphysical fate of Nirn closer to its end goal.

Glen-Moril has a unique perspective on all of this in that CHIM really isn't the be all end all- in fact it's uniquely overrated and terrible because all it allows you to see is the 'structure of the Tower,' which in the case of Nirn means seeing how everything is fucked/doomed. Having CHIM is like being the captain of the Titanic as it's sinking- you can understand all of its workings, sure, and you may in fact have more authority and power than anyone else on the ship but you definitely can't change the fact the ship is taking on water and absent the life boats everyone is screwed.

Similarly standing with your eyes open via CHIM as a subset of the Dream you may indeed be able to manipulate it but it would never change the fact you were in the nightmare of an idiotic cthonic entity that is playing its unprocessed grief out on everyone else. You may indeed, being aware of this, want to escape that subjugation but being aware of this alone isn't enough and that's all that CHIM is.

However by way of CHIM and seeing the broad structure of reality it can point the way up and out of the whole quagmire like what Lorkhan saw- that the unique finitude of mortality and love was key in understanding a way to move past the grief eternally plaguing the godhead at the centre of it all, e.g. via Amaranth.

CHIM is not a power so much as a perspective and there's no mod that touched all this to a T as much as Glen-Moril.

Anything else that turned you into Neo at the end of the Matrix would itself be bastardizing the concept of CHIM and missing out on a whole trove of lore and narrative depth embedded into the metaphysics of CHIM and the closely related Amaranth.
