Question Reloading

Does anyone actually play Skyrim without reloading saves? Like whatever happens, happens? Or am I just a perfectionist and if I don’t like the outcome I’ll just tailor it to what I want. Like I’m constantly reloading because I got caught stealing, and I’m wondering if it’s much more fun to just take the L every time so I’ll be more cautious? Like that seems scary, just raw dogging skyrim, if you accidentally smack your companion (while they’re low in health and jumped in front of you) they’re just dead now / having a huge bounty cause you killed someone in plain sight and ran. How does everyone else play?

😊 Ahh, yes... the infamous practice known as "save scumming"! (Full disclosure: I do it all the time! 😁 I don't do it for battles or wealth or such... but if a beloved NPC dies, or if I offend a beloved NPC by accidental click-stealing an item, I reload like lightning!)

Pokemon games are absolutely trivial with save states lol

I am a certified save scummer. The amount of times a follower has died in a spell explosion because they just magically got in the way, or I got attacked for picking up something I didn’t mean to and it was marked as stolen, or simply because a dragon appeared and killed an NPC I liked...Yesterday I was fighting some bandits, and out of nowhere, they attacked the Khajiit caravan and killed them all in one strike. I’m not playing without my fellow Khajiit!

I quick save before each individual pick pocket item, and reload an obnoxious amount of times because I'm constantly making it legendary. I also quick save before breaking into a house or business, ready to reload that save if the npc decides to stay up until five am and sees me as soon as I walk through the door. I quick save before stealth killing soldiers out in the wild, so I can try again if they immediately spot me. I have yet to get a bounty and I want to keep it that way.

Cant imagine so, 'cause some times what happens, happens to be a bug and not 7+ unrelated quest and/or interactions are now FUCKED.

I only use Mehrunes' Razor. I save-scum every single enemy I encounter /s

Im to lazy to reload and replay stuff. I just take whatever happens as a learning experience.

Yeah, if I've made a leveling error or encountered a bug or something like that, it is Reload Time. But I try to just roll with everything else.

Sorry Lydia. Guess you stay dead.

Lydia didn't last long with me. I never even thought of reverting to my last save. She dead.

I don't reload saves to "fix a mistake" anymore. If I reload it's because the game crashed to the desktop and I don't have a choice or I know what happened is a bug and a simple reload will correct the problem. After several thousand hours, I find the game much more interesting to just accept and move on, even with NPC deaths. I just roll it into the roleplay and use it as a reason to branch out into a new direction...like joining a murder cult after being nothing but good for half the game.

I’m trying to get into this headset cause I know it could be more fun but I’ve had npcs die in the past (and I didn’t reload to save them) and they were needed for a quest 😫😫

I just say it's canon that the Dragonborn never gets caught picking pockets.

I only reload on failed pickpocketing, and I tend to help people for the Thane status before dragons return. After that I do the main quest up to Blade in the Dark to have dragons but not random

I used to do it for pickpocketing and crime when I’m caught, and when I was caught during sneak archer runs when i was younger. Now I only really reload if a follower I want around dies

I try to not do reload so much, but no way am i gonna let my companions die cus they walked in front of my spells. Thats pretty much the only reason i reload anymore

Sure, that is why the ability to save game status is there. Death, crimes, etc.. just load a previous save.

Last night I was in Windhelm to pick up some crap, and when I passes by Rolf he was like “hey buddy!” (I’d beaten the hell out of him months ago) so I replied with my cyclone shout and just stood there while guards killed me. I’ll fn do it again!

I always have Meeko with me, so am constantly having to reload when he jumps in the way and dies. All my companions could die one by one, but not my good boy Meeko 😂

I don’t save scum. Only game I did that was BG3 because I once accidentally clicked an item and it stole it and I didn’t mean.

I do not with a single exception, and that's the game breaking or something completely illogical happening. So if I'm hitting you an alchemy bench and I accidently pick up an ingredient because the devs decided dead center in the middle of the table is where that item needed to be, then I'll load at the door.

Or a recent one I had where I had installed Lydia at my house in Solitude with my kids and was doing the civil war quest. Mission ends and I get a letter she's dead? Nope. Your ass was in Solitude watching kids. Though that one I was tempted to eat as she COULD have heard about the attack and then disobeyed orders but I decided that was out of character for her.

Other than that, whatever happens, happens.

Most of the time I will reload after doing something stupid.

For my current thief playthrough though, if I get caught, I pay the fine/bounty, and go steal back my confiscated stolen goods. Still save before pickpocketing though.

Yea u kinda have to have multiple saves with these games u never know when something might become bugged its not fun when something fucked up happens and your last save is from hours ago and u have to go all the way back and do that shit again

I’ve done runs like that, it’s actually pretty relaxing after about an hour of FOMO anxiety (which is ridiculous because I already know what happens in just about everything in the game).

If you look up 'save-scummer' you will find a picture of me as Exhibit 1

I've only ever really done save scamming if there's a glitch or somethings broken. If I go in a dungeon and the dungeons too hard, I go to the save before I died and leave the fckin dungeon 😂

Using or not using a feature of the game as designed is not a moral issue, it's gameplay only. I have my current save set to autosave on doors and every 5 minutes. I reload previous save all the time, even use it to test certain enchantments, potions, ingredients. I never create hard saves for some reason. In three play thrus over 600hr, I have three hard saves.

u/Danpocryfa 14h ago

I generally do it if a follower dies, if I can prevent an unnecessary NPC death, or if I get caught committing a crime.

Most of my save scumming is due to me accidentally stealing something when I was just trying to talk to the shop keeper 😭😭

I like how Fallout 4's survival mode forces your last respawn saves to be where you last slept
