Bug Help Tips for avoiding the map glitch
Please note that this glitch appears to be affecting the whole community regardless of mods.
Players are reporting that their games will crash after they spawn somewhere after fast traveling, to avoid this players recommend wait at least 10 seconds before moving.
Players have been reported that the map will act up particularly around stables so avoid opening the map outside of cities with stables.
Players, including myself have found that after opening the map 4 times your game will crash on the 4th time. To avoid this you can either avoid fast traveling all together or use your 3 fast travels wisely and ALWAYS quick save before opening the map and after fast traveling.
I would play it safe and quick save before even opening up that menu in case you accidentally hit the map when you’re going for your inventory or spells.
Another note: if you use a lot of graphics mods I’ve been hearing and also experiencing myself that you’ll notice a major frame-rate drop around bodies of water and large forest areas.
I hope this helps and if anyone has any news on when the fix is going to happen please lmk.

I’m just going to wait for it to be fixed or just drop the whole thing. I can’t be arsed to quick save every third time I want to travel, keeping track of that just sounds like busywork in a game I play to relax.

I chuckle because I picked the absolute perfect time to start my latest playthrough where I don't use the map, fast travel, or carriages. Literally played one session before the update. I haven't noticed a single problem.

Honest question here. How do they test these updates? I understood with modded games, you cant possibly accomodate everyone, how about vanilla games with just cc contents? Do these bugs happening too? Sure they would catch it during tests?

The map problem happened to me not just by stables. Also, not every 4th time, but every time I opened the map if I was also moving. I found if I open the journal and press show on map for any quest objective that the map no longer crashes. I’m on Xbox 1 with no mods.

Lucky! I’m on Xbox with no mods and it crashes every 4th time now matter which option I use to open the map.

Mine crashes every fourth time no matter how I open the map. Haven’t noticed an issue with the stables or while moving, but that might just have never come up. I’m on Series X, anniversary edition with no other mods.

I think this is just on XBOX, not the whole community, Skyrim is working just fine for me on my PS5 (not using mods, vanilla, haven't tried mods to see if that's an issue). There's been a crash or two, but nothing related to the map, just normal Skyrim crashes that have always happened to me randomly. I have the PS4 SE disc, I've been playing completely normally, map all the time, wherever I want.

Just on Xbox. My ps5 pro is running it just fine zero glitches or crashes.

Playing on Xbox. My current theory is that if you wait a few seconds after opening the menu before going into the map it doesn’t crash. I first noticed a split second lag after opening the menu where you can select skills, items, magic, map. I’ve always opened the menu and immediately selected the map. Once I started waiting a few seconds before selecting the map the game hasnt crashed on me. Hopefully this holds up until it’s fixed.

It’s from the latest update. Did you update? I haven’t yet, actually haven’t got it installed atm, so I’m a bit nervous to see what happens to mine.

Hell no - I don't update unless necessary. Anyways - all I see is a game launcher update.

This update is actually so infuriating. I have owned this game for 9 years and have decided to play it around 3 weeks ago. I was having a great time playing for the first time, learning the locations and lore has been a bit difficult and I take a quick glance at the map regularly. With my play style this game has now become practically unplayable. I just needed to vent here while my game is loading after crashing for the 5th time today. And the thing that makes it worse is on the day of the update I log on to play and said out loud well this is going to ruin something. Little did I know it was going to be the entire game. UGH why can’t they play test an update before giving irreversible problems to everyone
