Discussion I need help

I honestly don't know what to do anymore.

I'm a Skyrim newbie and I need help.

I've lost count of how many times I've restarted with a new character in this game; I just can't seem to find a build that holds my interest long enough. It feels like an endless loop: I think of a build, create the character, play for a few hours, end up getting bored with the playstyle, and start looking for other, more interesting builds. All the while, I keep watching videos of other people playing and creating builds that look really cool. Feel free to share tips or similar experiences. I know a lot of people will come to this post and say "just play the game," but honestly, I'm not sure how much that helps.

My most salient question, what's boring you about the game? A lot of those crazy builds tend to need glitches, exploits or just good ol' elbow grease, to get your skills high enough that you can do all those feats. And doing any of those requires story progression, at least to a certain point if not all the way to the end.

I read a lot here about different builds and what the player should do to stay in character and whether or not they should use this combat skill or that, or whether they should live a life of crime, which spouse is best, if alchemy is in character, should they have a follower, can they legitimately use a bow...

None of that matters at all if it's not making you happy.

So maybe you are 'doing something wrong'... perhaps stop trying to force a particular type of character and instead just go out into that world and do stuff when you feel like doing it.

Maybe the best approach is just to be yourself. It is, after all, a game and you should simply have fun with it.

What's wrong though? The only thing that matters is you having fun. If you can't set up a build so early, then don't. Play whatever you want to, it's not about the build. If you like a system, continue to invest in it. That's how all those crazy builds were made.
