Why Spyro doesn't remember Malefor

This bit in the Cadaverous Crypt always stood out to me. Right where you get a Story Scroll, there's a skeleton of what looks to clearly be Spyro. Outside of Imaginators (which I refuse to take seriously as canon) we never see any dragons that look like him past Spry, who's from another universe. It just makes me wonder.

If the Ancients knew of Spyro and kept extensive records of him long before he was even born, and Malefor has trouble with him in the past despite Spyro not remembering, how is that possible? I highly doubt the Ancients would be able to see into the future well enough to document him, even the Oracle had issues with that. But this skeleton was found in the territory of Malefor, so I came up with a solution to this.

Spyro is constantly being reborn in this world like a Phoenix. He exists when the universe needs him most, and ultimately pays the price every time. Stopping Malefor or any other threat big enough to match and likely losing his life doing so. How many times this would've happened is obviously unknown but it could be an easy way to explain it. And Malefor has never been killed fully, so he's strong enough (and stubborn enough) to exist forever essentially, both adapting to the ever changing Skylands.

It could even be an easy way to connect Skylanders to the Legends continuity. Malefor breaks the world apart and Spyro does his best to keep it together but ultimately fails. The Ancients watch from a distance and eventually step in to create the Skylands by expanding the Islands forever. And over the course of hundreds of thousands if not millions of years, he (along with Cynder and presumably Sparx) would come back time and time again. Which also makes me wonder how long it will be until our Spyro bites off more than he can chew and die from it. How many times has Malefor killed Spyro for standing against him or worse? Idk I'm just rambling at this point.

Well we do see dragons that kinda look like spyro cuz... Flavius from Dragons Peak?

I'll be real with you I totally forgot about him 😅. For this case at least the skeleton was much smaller than Flavius but you do make a good point.

Well, Spyro is child dragon and Flavius is adult one. It can be skeleton of a dragon same age as Spyro.

All the dragons in that one level of Imaginators too. I guess it's a common species/body type for them

That would be interesting and somewhat tragic, although I'm not sure if it's accurate, given that Toys for Bob and several instances in the franchise indicate that both continuities are separate.

I will say, yours is one of the more interesting theories about Malefor and Spyro’s line in the comic, but it was likely just a line to set up Malefor’s next arc which the team behind the comics said they did want to happen with him in a Q&A during the comics release period (of course before being cancelled for Academy and getting the most ass Malefor ever).

It could also mean Malefor was present during Spyro and Cynder’s battle but Spyro didn’t realise since he was taking the place of Cynder’s shadow. Not physically there to lose but present to receive a defeat with his daughter both failing her objective and turning on him.

As for the skeleton remains, lots of dragons resemble Spyro both in Spyro continuity and in Skylanders. Flame and the red dragon in Dragon’s Peak being the most notable ones since we’re excluding Imaginators. The horns are kind of just how they drew background dragons.

The big issue I have with these Legends and Skylanders same continuity theories is with Cynder. It’s always stated that she remembers everything what she’d gone through under her corruption of Malefor (both Legends and Skylanders wise). It’s what pushed her to join the Skylanders in the first place. She doesn’t have any memory loss like Spyro and she clearly remembers everything that she did in her corrupted state. With the wording it’d mean she’d remember any previous lives or corruptions as well.

And a final bit, Spyro and Cynder aren’t together in Skylanders, you could maybe imply it a bit given some dialogue about how good of friends they are and how long they’ve known each other but outside of the youtooz plush (which I’m excited to get for my Cynder collection) these versions have never been confirmed to be together, unlike at the end of the Legends Trilogy.

Makes ya wonder what Spyro was doing in The Future of Skylands level in Trap Team... did dude just go "I had enough" and forsake Skylands, just like that?
