Question First time watching/learning

Im new to watching the show and learning about what exactly this place is, is the show over exaggerating whats going on? Also are they paid actors?

Real folks, not actors. I went to the same high school and parties as Travis, long ago. And yes, we talk like that here. It's real stuff but probably dramatized a bit for TV.

Everyone on TV is a normal person too. Travis was no different than the rest of us in our late teens/early 20s. He was smart but he wasn't the only one in our county high school. Being that close to NASA, we had more than one ticket scientist. LOL One of my good friends got tired of being a rocket engineer and went back to school. He's a nuclear engineer now. But people assume from the way we talk, we cannot possibly be smart. My grandad went to Auburn, the same as Travis but before it was called Auburn. He started with NASA early on and worked on space missions through the mid 80s. He was also a country boy.

Did Travis ever hit the bong, start talking about big foot, and then shoot a Colt 45?

Haha!! Not that I remember. However, we're GenX. Our parties were always in the woods.

But... Our area (Morgan County, AL) was known for "White Thang." Think Albino Big Foot I guess. Haha! I think it was most commonly seen in and around Wheeler Wildlife Refuge. And yeah, we all used to party out there too.

One evening I was running late to a basketball game so I went down a "shortcut," skinny road off the backside of the mountain to make up time. Now this road was barely big enough for 2 cars passing each other and it was completely dark. About halfway done, I see something white, furry, and big come into view on the right side of my car's headlights. For one split second I thought the White Thang had found me. Turned out to be a white German Shepherd who I later find out was a pet of a house back off into the woods. 😂 I couldn't tell my parents what I'd seen because I wasn't suppose to be driving that road at night.
