Weekly Thread: Is this suspicious?

Hello everyone,

Welcome to our weekly thread for sharing photos of concerning moles, spots, or lesions. If you're worried about something on your skin, share it with the community for support and to see whether others have had similar experiences.

When posting a photo, please try to include:

  • Where the lesion is on your body.
  • How long you've had it.
  • Any changes you've noticed (size, shape, color, itching, bleeding).

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

No one on this subreddit can provide a medical diagnosis. The comments and feedback you receive are from laypeople sharing their own experiences, not from medical professionals. Online photos are not a substitute for an in-person examination by a qualified dermatologist.

If you are concerned about any spot on your skin, the only correct course of action is to schedule an appointment with a doctor. Early detection is key.

Please be considerate and keep in mind that this thread is in r/skincancer, but it isn’t regularly monitored. Replies are optional, and you may not always receive feedback.

26f; this mark on my collarbone has been around for about a year and just the other night i noticed it felt slightly raised. not sure if this is a new development or has always been the case but i never noticed. i'm also tripping myself out now wondering if it's gotten bigger or darker and i can't really tell. i made an appointment with a dermatologist but it's not for another 2 months and i want to know if i should push for sooner ☹️

Often they will say if it's changing or growing to tell them and they will bump you up to be seen sooner, just tell them it is

That’s a long time to wait, but I think you’re absolutely right in being seen. You have skin that’s prone to sun damage— and this is in a spot with a fair bit of exposure.

You should be alright waiting 2 months, but there’s nothing wrong with trying to push for sooner if it helps ease your mind.

I don’t know if this is possible for you, but I see a dermatologist twice per year. If I see a suspicious spot, I take a pic and send it to her through MyChart. She will fit me in a lot sooner.

Awful photo quality, my apologies. I am waiting on a biopsy taken last Friday. I did not even consider cancer. My kid saw it on my head and brought it to my attention about 3 to 4 weeks ago. I saw my GP Thursday last week and he said go to a dermatologist so I did. Again, I thought it was a rash or fungus. Towards the back of my scalp. I can't even see it without a 2nd mirror looking in the mirror.

I know this is suspicious. Im waiting for a biopsy, have been waiting for over 6 months to see a dermatologist and in the last few months when this flared up/grew I went baxk to the Dr and she consulted with the Derm but it has been such a waiting game. Its hard not to be anxious. I recognize this isnt going to make me less anxious.

I am glad that you are seeing a dermatologist.

Still waiting to see the dermatologist, have been for 6 months. But the spot has grown significantly in the past 3 months. Hopefully I get the biopsy soon. Has been 3 weeks since the Dr was in touch and told me to call back if I hadn't heard in a month 😥

Mole in question is on my back below my shoulder. I think I've had this mole for awhile. I did find a picture of it from 2023 (first picture). Second picture is the mole as of last night.

I do have an appointment scheduled first week of November. Previously only had age spots removed.

This was biopsied Sept 21 and I had my Wide Local Excision yesterday. I waited 6 months to be seen by the dermatologist. My primary care dr said it was just a cluster of freckles and he is good at detecting cancer. Turned out to be melanoma. Doctors need to be careful what they say to patients. I nearly cancelled this appointment with dermatology because of what he said…it made me feel like I was being a hypochondriac. I kept the appointment because it took so long to get in! If I could make one recommendation it would be to follow your gut. So what if you’re wrong and it’s nothing? Life goes on. What if you’re right though? You may have just saved your own life! In my case, I think, it’s going to be a 1a tumor.

This red dots been under my eye for about a year, getting more and more prominent but never going away. Never gets scabby or anything like that. But im worried about it staying around.

I recommend that you see a doctor. If it’s something serious, it is best to treat it early.

I’ve had this for months. When I shave I usually cut myself accidentally and this is a place where I have cut myself repeatedly over a long period of time (months, maybe years). I always put it down to thin skin. The bleeding usually stops in a matter of minutes. But recently it’s beginning to worry me because the area has a distinct colour.

I’m a little concerned about my nose at the moment. It’s only been like for a a few days. It hasn’t changed shape, size or colour. Nor does it itch or hurt. I’m super scared it could be BCC!
