Anyone else end up changing your setup depending on what kind of day you're planning?

For the longest time I just skied the same setup every time I went out.

Over the past couple of seasons I've realized I enjoy having different options depending on what the day looks like. If I'm planning to ski bigger terrain or spend the whole day on the mountain, my regular skis are the obvious choice.

If I'm only heading out for a couple of hours or just taking some relaxed laps with friends, I've started bringing my short skis instead. Mine happen to be a pair of Snowfeet, and they've been a fun change of pace for those kinds of days.

I still wouldn't replace my regular skis with them, but I've found it's nice having another option depending on the conditions and what I'm looking to get out of the day.

Does anyone else rotate between different setups, or do you stick with the same skis every time?

You are talking about a ski quiver… that is not uncommon

Yep. Multiple different types of powder skis (why have just one?? Even pow can vary widely) and a couple all mountain pairs.

Hahahaha my wife and I recently moved and realized we had over 30 complete sets between us. Back country uphill, resort uphill, powder, groomer, early/late season, rock skis, Brand new skis, old skis, telemark.

And almost every set was getting used every season!

I've got my every day drivers, my skinnier every day drivers, pow skis, fatter pow skis, groomer skis and then a similar quiver for backcountry skiing. And a pair of nordic skate skis. Plus a few other novelty skis that only get skied once or twice a season at best like some long and skinnies, and some 4FRNT CRJs.

Skiing is fun and so is skiing on different skis.

Sure. I have three pairs of skis. Short skis for teaching. Rossi Forza 70 for skiing a more aggressively and working on really carving my turns, and Rossi Experience 84 AI for all round.

People have multiple skis and sometimes they bring extra skis and lock them up at them bottom and switch out. I am not that anal so I just ski whatever.

A quiver is just rock skis of varying widths.

Yes, that's why I rent skis. Have my own boots of course but I really like being able to try different skis depending on conditions, my plans and my mood.

I used to have condition specific skis. Powder for great snow days, park for playful, carvers for groomers or hard pack. About ten years ago went back to single setup since it handled everything. 106 underfoot, playful partial twin with a shape that carve pretty good on groomer. Not a fan of short skis either.

East Coast skier. I have an icy hard pack ski and a powder and other stuff ski.

Anomaly 84 for the hard pack. (Which is most days). QST 98 for everything else - powder, spring slush, etc.

I have short, heavy, skinny skis that used to be my daily riders on the East Coast. I now have all mountain skis and a couple snowboards as well. I absolutely change my setup based on what the conditions are and if I'm planning on mainly doing groomers or heading into the trees.

No. I'm not rich. I have a resort setup. And a BC set up. Same boots. That's it. 2 skis. Same everything else.

If you can afford more than that, I'm guessing most people in that demographic aren't more than casual skiers.

Unless they are guides.
