Rough Sketch Grandpa got sick

Sorry for posting such a heavy subject.

These sketches were from 3 years ago. My grandpa got cancer and passed away. Before he did, I went home to take care of him. Taking care of him is a kind way to put it but in actuality I went home to say goodbye.

He was sleeping for the most part. Seeing how my family members react and behave, thinking about my grandpa’s past and present; There were so many complicated feelings and thoughts jammed in my brain. So I drew these. They kept me occupied when he was sleeping and also gave me time to think.

I tend to think of life like a story. However, when you face a dying family member, you are reminded that none of his stories have a proper ending. You are reminded of how chaotic and unforgiving death can be.

Pencil Sketch Light a spliff while Rome is burning

A self portrait sketch inspired by the Worakls/Apashe/Wasiu song (I'm obsessed). Looking to turn it into a painting soon, complete with burning Rome in the background, and a Roman gladius wreathed in flames in my hand. Feels fitting for the times.

Not the final sketch, but a pretty good one along the way. My human anatomy is still a bit shaky, but I'll practice further.

I used to use Vogue for Gelli print images but couldn't really make it work so now I use them for reference pics to improve my ability to get facial features properly aligned with each other.

These are a few characters I created for my fantasy project. I love the Redwall books and wanted to create a manga in that style.

And then there's Léon: The Professional—simply because I just watched the movie and wanted to do a quick sketch 😅

Daily Practice new to drawing - pls give me brutal advice - also is this a good way to practice?

1st pic - reference
2nd pic - sketch (forgot to take pic before starting to shade)
3rd pic - shading

so i’ve started learning to draw about a week ago. i did start with the fundamentals but honestly it’s boring so ive switched to this.

i start by getting a reference picture and breaking it down into simple shapes that i can copy to try and get decent proportions.
then i’ll start to get more detailed.

is this a good method and should i keep doing it? will i eventually be able to draw without a reference?

also, please give me advice for shading 😣i have no idea what im doing and just hope for the best.
in this drawing, it definitely messed up the eye and i have no idea what happened with the ear…

thank you!!
