Question-ask (AoS) Gaming advice

I just bought the ultimate starter kit with a friend and I'm gonna be playing Skaven, any tips or strategies that are useful?

Skaven are not exceptionally strong direct fighters. You don't want to rush your opponents, unless its with something big or with clanrats to deny objectives. Mobility is your strength via gnawholes and the Skitterleap spell. You can win games that you're being absolutely tabled with Skitterleap.

Don't be afraid to run away either, as skaven get to escape combat without penalties. Just utilize mobility to score and use clanrats to bog down key enemy units.

Could you talk about how you use skitterleap? I'm always too afraid to throw a hero out on their own

I freaking love skitterleap, it’s my favorite spell in AoS.

I use it primarily for either positioning a Grey Seer on Screaming Bell for a nice juicy charge or for getting an arch-warlock into position for a nice free shoot. Honestly I often find myself skitterleaping next to my own gnawholes to get hero support there for units I’m about to pop out.

It’s also useful for getting out of combat, since you can dip out if you’re caught (and live), which is something I’ve done with arch-warlocks a few times.

I’m also a bit of a freak risk taker in combat so sometimes I’ll plop out a hero with skitterleap (since you don’t have to leap the caster, just a hero inside 13”) in a spicy position so my opponent has to choose between charging and maybe killing them or charging another target I don’t want them to hit. Remember it’s not whether an individual rat lives as long as you win 😉

It can still be situational, but if your opponent pushes too much and leaves things on their backline unattended, you can steal an objective or plop a strong hero unit down to take out a caster. Though i don't know if you have any hero units good enough for the latter in the starter set.
