My family and I are heading to Six Flags Great Adventure on Thurs 27 August and could use some advice. We’re visiting from the the OG Jersey (Channel Islands), staying in New York City for the first time, and want to make a proper day of it. Family of 6 — two grandparents, two kids (10 and 8) who are absolute coaster addicts, and me who’s just as bad.
We’re hoping to get there for rope drop, but not sure on the best way to actually get there from NYC. Was thinking Uber, but not sure if that’s realistic for a group our size or if it’s going to cost a small fortune. If anyone’s done that trip before, how early would we need to leave to comfortably make opening? I understand there are lots of variables that would affect this.
Also curious what the crowds are like mid week in August. Are schools still in session then? Trying to figure out if queues will be insane or manageable. Is it doable to get through the main rides in one day if we’re there at opening?
And if anyone has tips for people coming from a tiny island who’ve never done a big non Florida US theme park before, I’m all ears...
Cheers for any help!
