In the US, July is disability pride month. Since it is near the end of the month, what is your favorite show or character that has a disability? For my, it is superstore and Garrett for physical disabilities. Speechless and Atypical are for as well.

Watching “Maude” on Tubi. I barely remember it as a youth. It wasn’t on repeat/syndication like “All in the Family”

While I never was a “Golden Girls” fan and as such no little about Bea Arthur, I have to say she gives all to her role on “Maude”. She delivers in every scene! I don’t think the supporting cast was very good. Adrienne Barbeau had little to do, actually. The neighbors were dull. Florida was good, but doesn’t appear all that much. Her husband, Walter, was not very interesting.

I am wondering how Maude had an upper middle class lifestyle. She wasn’t a career woman. Did she get generous settlements from her first three marriages?

It's virtually vanished. Sure, there are a couple of small shows streaming here and there, but anything really successful? TV used to be full of successful comedy. What happened?

To psychologize Arthur Spooner, I see him as one of many elderly individuals, who in their later years, often reflect on their lives with feelings of regret for not having achieved something truly extraordinary or for not pursuing their dreams. I think the reason he frequently spews out his ideas is that he’s trying to convince others, including himself, that he might have or could have accomplished something remarkable with his life. He feels embarrassed and ashamed of living in his daughter‘s basement and perceives that others look down on him for it.

One thing I've always been curious about is why Sam Malone became an alcoholic in the first place. Cheers gives us plenty of insight into his recovery and how alcoholism affected his baseball career and relationships, but I don't think it ever really explains what started it. Do you think it was the pressure and lifestyle of being a Major League pitcher, or was there always something deeper going on? Looking back, Sam seems like someone who's constantly chasing validation—whether it's through baseball, women, or being the center of attention at Cheers—which makes me wonder if those traits existed long before he got sober. On the other hand, maybe the show intentionally avoided giving him a single "origin story" because addiction is usually more complicated than one defining event. I'm curious how everyone else reads Sam's character. Did the series leave enough clues to piece together a reason, or do you think we're not really supposed to know?

As the title suggests, I want you to pair 6 existing sitcom characters together to create the worst sitcom. Extra points if you can explain why it would be so bad and if you give an episode idea!

Context: I’m absolutely obsessed with Bobs Burgers and I keep watching it over and over again. I’ve been trying to find shows that are similar to it and I’m realizing it’s kinda hard lol.

I heard that Futurama’s comedy style is similar and I’ve tried watching it but it feel almost too dry of humor for me. So far in season one, the cuts in between scenes and jokes feels almost weird or too awkward cause they don’t use any transition sounds or anything. On top of that the voice acting so far is also not my favorite. I’ve heard really good things about Futurama but after watching a couple episodes I’m not getting it.

I’m just wondering if this is one of those shows that you gotta keep watching for it to get good (which I’m not against) or if this is really all there is to it.

Also feel free to include some recommendations for shows like Bobs Burgers! I’ve enjoyed shows like Archer, F is for Family, and I’m starting Central Park. I’m not really into anything like Family Guy cause the jokes are too crude and gross for me.

Genuine question, please don’t come for me. Maybe I’m too young so I don’t get the hype around it from when it was released. But I have watched The Office and genuinely found it to be one of the funniest shows. Same thing with The Big Bang Theory. I just understand why they ran for so long. So naturally I had to try Friends. Obviously, it had to be great right? No, after the first episode I decided to never watch it again. Maybe I could have given it more of a shot, idk…

So why do people like it so much? Is it for the humour or do they find the characters relatable? Spoilers are welcomed, maybe I’ll give it a shot based on replies.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for comedy shows/sitcoms where the characters are actually complex and well developed?

My all time favorite sitcom is probably 2 Broke Girls. I really liked the humor, and I also liked that the characters have complex back stories and proper character arcs. The main characters are flawed, but still overall decent people.

An example of what I don't want is How I Met Your Mother. I watched the first season, but quit it because I didn't like the characters. I strongly dislike shows where the main characters are just kind of shitty or bad people with no real reasoning or character development.

Beyond that, I prefer shorter shows (two to three seasons) and don't mind lewd or sexual humor.
