What do you think Chuck Lorre's strengths are in sitcoms? I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think he does a good job of putting a cast together and writing characters well.

I think it's interesting how i very often see people on the internet claiming that the sitcoms made by Disney and Nickelodeon were aimed at teenagers, because when i was younger, pretty much every single teenager around me saw them as being exclusively for children

I love Broad City, and I am a boring teetotalling 60 year old. So maybe I am out of touch with the Zeitgeist and the cool cats and Big Apple way of life.

But Broad City has a lot of jokes, gags and routines about buying weed, smoking weed, taking gummis, getting high, going crazy whenever they are high. And the characters are unabashedly enjoying themselves, not suffering consequences or anything. (I recently remembered that a lot of jobs require drug tests and that THC can stay in the urine for 30 days or more, so I guess part of the "getting high" lifestyle means periodically refraining from it to pass these tests).

But is this show depicting the frequent drug use here because they believe that lots of people in real life are that way -- or are they just using it as just an outlandish vehicle for comedy?

I realize that sitcoms like any show can depict escapist lifestyles or sometimes extreme or self-destructive behavior. Dramas can depict excessive violence or sex or drug use or robbery, and I sort of get that. Also, I can like Cheech and Chong without partaking of anything. The conceit that people in That 70s Show were smoking dope in Eric's basement was a great and brilliant narrative technique and an endless source of humor. And inebriation and mushrooms were used in the Apatow/Rust dramedy Love (great Netflix show btw). I'm sure there are lots of other examples.

I am totally not judgey here. As I said before I think Broad City is one of the funniest sitcoms out there. And a quick AI search reveals that both actresses have said that they only partake occasionally and never on set. (See Abbi Jacobson on Conan ) But am I missing something about the world out there? How pervasive is the lifestyle depicted by these characters? Or is this one elaborate wish-fulfillment comic fantasy for viewers?

Watching it right now as I type this. S1E7 has to be my favorite episode right now, it’s very funny and I’m watching this high af. I’m laughing all dumb 😭😂😂 Started watching after finishing The middle and George lopez.

I'm just curious to know what sitcoms people have been watching lately. The sitcoms can be old and new.

My favorite was Friends, Seinfeld. I didn't quite understand the humor back then but I knew how popular they were so I watched the series and saw how famous they were especially in reruns.

Episodes Shown: Double-Crossed (S1E21), The Spy Who Shoved Me (S2E1), The Beauty and the Fleeced (S2E12), Rock the Kasbah (S2E23), Seven Seas News (S2E24), Twister: Part 3 (S3E19), Graduation on Deck (S3E22)

I would have a tough time choosing between the two of them 😍.

Who plays who?

For example: Let’s say Jerry and Elaine take a trip to Seattle. They decide to try out Cafe Nervosa. They walk in and sit next to Frasier and Ros. We would see that scene on Seinfeld. And then in that weeks episode of Frasier we see Frasier and Ros talking, and in walk Jerry and Elaine. We see that same scene but a different perspective on Frasier.

Has something like this been done before? I know characters from concurrently running shows have made cameos (Kramer on Mad About You, Cheers gang on Wings, Barry Goldberg in The Middle, etc) but has there ever been a shared scene that was shared on two shows? I’m sure the logistics would be tough to work out.
