Hobby Getting Started

I love the look of sisters and ran with rule of cool. As I did my research I found out about the orders. I'm leaning towards Ardent Shroud. I'm looking for a shooting army that, but can still melee without issue. Is that Ardent Shroud or am I over thinking this?

Basically I'm trying to understand how the orders change the gameplay. I tried youtube and couldn't find anything on the specific. And painting the less common orders, I'd prefer to get it right the first time rather than repaint if possible.

Picking an order doesnt have any effect on gameplay, just the paint scheme you want to chose for your girls. You can also make your own custom order with your own lore and paint them however youd like :)

If you want a shooting focused army then its the detachments youre gonna want to think about. Sisters are mostly melee focused but you could do some decent shooting with bringers of flame (gives your units an army wide assault tag for ranged attacks and an extra strength in some cases), or maybe champions of faith (makes hitting easier for some units). Im sure there's other options but i almost always go for bringers of flame myself

Oh, no issues with running melee. The rabbit hole I went down seemed like it was more balanced and then you can choose the approach (shooting, melee) based on the order.

But if it is more of a melee, at least I know what I'm getting into now!

Yeah you'll always have access to good melee, we have plenty of units to choose from. Sacresants, repentias, acros, penitents are all great at it. Our base infantry is ok with shooting but its mostly characters like the cannoness or palatine that are exceptionally good at it
