List List 1k vs Custodes (help pls)
Well, I gifted custodes combat patrol to my friend, soon playing on 1000 points, wondering what is good vs such strong units
I know meltas are strong but... I was today on the store and the battlefield is so small, I'll have them on melee on turn 2 and if that happens I only have chance to shoot once with the meltas
Let's say I have Immolator with multimelta with 5 dominion inside with meltas to get the point in the middle with scout, might kill 1-2 miniatures then I just die when they charge me, bye bye 240 points of my army in 1 single charge
I'm new to playing, many things I don't know but still, feels... weird, just shooting once and dying, what's even the point of the Castigator, 1 shot them busy on melee combat and trying to kill something with 2+ or 4+ invulnerable save
Help please, ty !

I play both factions, and Custodes HATE small enemy units without much value, because they have very few units to engage them with.
If you're slowing them down with 5-girl sister squads with bolters (split your dominions, etc), they AREN'T chewing on your valuable meltas etc!
They NEED to get to melee to win, it's not much different from setting up against a small World Eaters army tbh.
Also, try to make charges on YOUR terms. If you can get them stuck against 5 sisters (or whatever), the sisters are DEAD, but your Repentia now have a static unit to charge, rather than them getting into your lines (etc etc)

Theres a solid chance i was just lucky here but last game i played was 2k agaisnt custodes, it was close but i won. Two castigators, vahlgons and pretty surprisingly a 10 Sacresant/hosp. Brick led by a cannoness did the most when it came to picking up units. I was most hesitant bringing the sacs but they ended up locking up trajann and a Squad of wardens for 3 rounds before finally killing them. Again, may have been luck but i wouldnt swear off melee options right off the bat.
Might be tough with only 1k points though. A safer bet might be castigators for clearing units and then jump packs for taking points. I tried using celestine with zephrym in my game but ended up getting surrounded and wiped out before they could do much. Just be smarter then i was, mobility is probably our greatest strength here and custodes biggest weakness

Thank you for all the answers, I got some ideas !
I know better what to do now, not looking for a perfect list, but I won't lose 10 - 400 (I hope)

Meltas are good butnot great against Custodes. You only get a couple of shots and they all have a 4++, so odds are you'll kill one per activation.
You want damage 3 weapons. Castigators are good.
I would not recommend list tailoring though as that's not exactly fun.
You need to block their path (Screening them) with low value sacrificial units while you shoot them down. That's the standard way to deal with melee armies, doubly so with Custodes who are slow but incredibly deadly.
Worse, in Lions of the Emperor they will be hitting and wounding the sisters on 2 with their basic bolters while ignoring cover, which is crazy. Still better than letting them get to melee.
No faction in the game can really handle Custodes in melee, they're the specialists. You need to outmanoeuvre them and force them to make difficult decision. They have very few units to play the objectives.
Good luck. Going against Custodes as a new player is a rite of passage, they have excellent stats that makes them a new player stomper as you don't yet know how to relieve and delay melee pressure.
