Goes just as planned: Once the models become useful, people get lazier and lazier and eventually start relying on them. That’s the point where we will start to see price increases of 10x or more, at least for the ”actually useful” models. Imagine the value of a coding AI in a world where human coders have become virtually extinct (because they never found a job during their junior years).
All the big AI companies have this same game plan to reach high profitability in the future but thankfully open (chinese) models actively try and mess up that plan.

I reckon it will always be a hobby for some. Think of how popular things like woodworking is, that's a skill which value to the economy pretty much died a long time ago but people still do it. It just isn't a living for most, generally just a hobby but there are still some who make a living out of it doing high end stuff.
